A 30-something freak whose life is dedicated to their writing.

Some queens come to power through birthright, some through charisma, and some through strength and force.
But there are some queens who rise to power through cunning and treachery...and Chrysalis of the Changelings is perhaps the greatest of them all.
Long live the queen!

~
Special thanks to TheOneBehindYou and my best friend Lycan for giving me feedback, support, encouragement, and proofreading this conceptual look into how Chrysalis became the Queen of the Changelings.
The cover image is a screenshot, and the title is Latin for "Long live the queen! Long live the queen!"

Hmm, interesting take, I approve. Please write more, you're a very good author for just starting out. :pinkiehappy:

This feels almost like Shakespeare's Hamlet, a ruler is posioned and their replacement is the one responsible. :twistnerd:

Sometimes I feel like I should (BUM BUM) run away I...oh, spoot...I can't recall the rest of the "Tainted Love" song lyrics.
Not bad, my friend, not bad. Good sentence structure, you watch your spelling, and you have good ideas. This puts you ahead of a
lot of other writers. That's two good stories so far. Keep it up.

(I do have to wonder how the changlings get liquid love. Hopefully not the same way the Rainbow Factory gets Spectra. Brrr...):twilightoops:

Oh, goodness.

Conniving and murderous Chrysalis is conniving.

And murderous.

No wonder she's my favorite villain.

I love it. Like/fav, all that jazz.

My favorite character being awesome? Yes, please.
I really, really liked this story. The pacing, the dialog, everything. This is how I like to see Queen Chrysalis portrayed: intelligent, deceptive, and extremely dangerous. Great story.

I believe this is a very good portrayal of Chrysalis in regards to her canon character. Very well done!

Oh my goodness this was so well paced and exerted very well! I have to say, that your chrysalis is as in character as it gets. Very cunning, very manipulative.

And sorry again for apparently taking a nap that suddenly became sleep. I had no idea I was THAT tired. :derpyderp1:

3543959 Aww, thank you so much! And don't worry! All these oneshots are just warm-up for a larger chapter fic I'm going to start! :scootangel:

3543982 Thank you so much, Sam! And you know, one of my friends who proofread this prompted me to consider that matter; what happened to all of Chrysalis's sisters and what's going on with that whole matter. I may visit the idea more in the future.

3544000 Oooh, thank you SPB12. I didn't recognize the Hamlet parallels.

3544269 I didn't know there was a song called "Tainted Love." :rainbowhuh: Then again, there are so many "love" songs in the world I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise. Thank you so much, Eskerata! (Very good question! I may have to explore that as well if I get the chance to explore more with the idea of Chrysalis's sisters and how their mother encourages murder and intrigue among her heirs.)

3544359 Ahh, but of course! I don't think we would like seeing her any other way! :trollestia: Thank you so much, Mobytums!

3544397 3544697 Ohh! Thank you so much! Personally, I really can't see Chrysalis any other way in my mind, and I feel that she isn't portrayed in a dangerous way often enough. I see so many fanfictions that make her out to be a sweet victim who wouldn't hurt a fly, and I think that's a bit of a detriment to the portrayal of her character. So thank you, thank you very much! It means a lot to me to see that the way I've written her is appreciated!

3544807 :duck: Why thank you, Sapphire darling. If nothing else, Chrysalis is a delight to write and explore when it comes to dangerous, conniving characters.

And don't worry about it, I figured you were probably very tired.

3545306 It's not very prominet, it'sc just how Chrysalis rises to power that makes it a reference.

Well, my dear friend, this is yet another wonderful work you have given us! :pinkiehappy:
First of all, I very much enjoy your approach to the opening scene. Your description paint the halls of the Changeling royalty with great detail. Puts a chill up my spine as I type, truthfully.
I also must say that you captured Chrysalis's demeanor with unerring accuracy, and that alone amazed me. Each cold thought of hatred toward her mother, every fragment of attention on how she carried herself to ensure her success, her seizing of the crown, and finally her basking in her power-drunk self... perfectly done.
Besides a few minor grammatical errors, this is absolutely flawless. I can't wait to hear that another idea for a fanfic won't let you be. Very well done, my friend.

3547098 Oh my goodness! :twilightblush: Thank you so much Sterling! *hugs*
Oooh, thank you! I'm so happy to hear that I was able to capture a setting well enough it gave you chills!
And ESPECIALLY thank you for that! Chrysalis is one of those characters I'm rather nervous writing, if only because I'm never sure I'll be able to depict her particular nature quite accurately. So it means a ton that you think I really did a good job with her! :yay:
And I have already said this quite a bit in this comment, but once again, thank you! Hopefully before long I'll get another story up!

To murder the mother who laid her as an egg, who fed her on love as a grub and looked after her, that's horrible. No wonder Chrysalis is so evil. But it seems the Queen encouraged her sisters to murder each other.

Hail to the Queen! Can value systems be blameworthy, or just failure of adherents to abide by them? Is Chrysalis the most reprehensible changeling or the most virtuous? :pinkiecrazy:

Great read! I loved the way Chrysalis just offed her own mother without a second thought, it was a treat for my grimdark tastebuds.

3622111 Ooooh~!! My thanks to you for the compliment, good sir! :pinkiehappy: (And it's always nice to hear that someone has an appreciation for some of the darker aspects of my writing!)

The sweet goddess has gained the POWER, long live the queen!:yay:

Especially not when your seemingly adoring daughter conveniently drops a phial of tainted love.

>phail of tainted love...
->tainted love

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love
Tainted love

Such a violent means of succession seems to be the Changeling Way, at least in that particular Hive.

Really liked this! Great atmosphere, and the grim and paranoid childhood it implies Chrysalis must have experienced between her mother's encouraging of competition and her eldest sister's bullying makes her deserve her eventual regal position all the more.

I have to say I thought there was going to be a twist in there that her mother knew it was Chrysalis all along; revealing that the queen was much more keyed in to manipulation and deceit being the changeling ways than brute force, knowing that the eldest daughter had obviously provoked the ire of others and would die in secret at their hands, and that Chrysalis was the true heir as she most exemplified the changeling values. I thought her calling Chrysalis 'my daughter' at one point rather than 'my eldest daughter' or the eldest daughter's name was a hint that she knew.

It's nice when a story goes a different direction to what you're expecting, though, and it made the mother's death much sweeter to read.

3548847
Her mother set them up to kill eachother, and established it was their way.

She tried to play favorites at the same time, and this is what it wrought.
