The sense of nostalgia at the beginning of the story was quite calming, which provided a stark contrast to the jarring, traumatizing flashback. A cute idea that I think could have been expanded upon, but made for a great story nonetheless. Nice work.
Also, poor Twilight. That'll be a hard image to get rid of.

All joking aside, the story is well-written, and the concept is one worth exploring; both on a serious level and for laughs. I will say, however, that this is not really my kind of humor, and the genre tag could be seen as misleading. Overall, not too shabby.
I'm guessing Twi's going to be asking Celestia if there's a spell for eye and brain bleach.
Seems Twilight relived, shall we say, a very formative moment in her life.

There's always the chance that a glimpse of the past will show you something you don't want to see, but I guess she hadn't conceived such a notion...

I actually asked my proofreaders if I thought I could get away with not having a comedy tag, and they thought that the bulk of the story was serious enough I could leave it off. Mainly I didn't want to give away the twist by having a giant comedy tag at the top of the story. I think it's better if you don't see it coming.

3541148 Yeah, I see what you mean. I probably could've gone further with it, but honestly I don't think the joke is so good that I'd want to drag it out for much longer than I did. At some point I would like to do a serious story about how the whole "alicorn" thing affected Twilight's relationship with her parents, but I was in the mood to do something goofy.
3541163 Yeah, I wavered a bit on whether to include a comedy tag or not. I eventually decided to forgo it because having it on there would lessen the impact. But now that the cat's out of the bag I might add one.
While I think this was a superbly executed and hilarious joke, it really needs a comedy tag. The comedy tag would not have given away anything and would have avoided ticking off all those poor people that don't have a sense of humor.
That said, I was absolutely dying for almost 5 minutes after I realized what had happened.

At least she now knows for an absolute certainty that her parents are her parents. Not that she has any reason to doubt that but still, now she knows for sure, that's something good at least.
