This is the best crossover concept I've seen in a while, even if you have to shoehorn the characters into their roles.
So it's just the first two episodes with all the names switched?
That's not really a crossover, because it means that there are no Harry Potter elements, and since everything is exactly the same, it can't even count as a parody.

I ask because I feel like the first chapter really is just the first scene with names switched, but starting in the 2nd chapter it begins to stray from "The Mare in the Moon"'s script enough not to be "just the names switched". I'm mostly asking to ascertain whether you found that irritating enough to stop reading after the 1st chapter, or if after reading the second chapter you still felt that there were no Harry Potter elements.
Actually, as the fic goes on it strays more and more, putting in more and more Harry Potter-type elements and divergences from the original script, I guess because as I went I started giving myself more creative license. Thus, I'd also be really, really grateful if, when I post the next two chapters, you could read/skim them enough to let me know if you have the same opinion of them as well (no/not enough Harry Potter elements, and everything being exactly the same). But that would be a huge favor to me and you don't owe me any favors. It would be extremely helpful for me to know, though, if you have a few minutes to spare, and I would totally owe you one. :) (Yes, I will still owe you one if your answer is "Yes, my original comment stands." I'm actually trying to get the truth so I can use it to get better.)

My philosophy is that the shoehorning is what makes it comedy, so it's okay to unceremoniously stuff a character into their place, so long as I do so in a way that's funny. Wait 'till you meet the new Rarity... :-D

Thing is, since you just shoehorn characters into other characters places, I don't identify any of them as themselves, just some people who have the same name. It would be one thing if you exaggerated character traits, but this is just outright replacing them.

It's not meant to be a serious story; it's not a parody, but it's definitely light-hearted fluff meant to make people picture the HP characters in the MLP situations and giggle.
I guess I'll just have to see if the lack of any kind of structured approach to the "crossover" thing is something that bothers everyone, or just some people. I'm sure there will be some people who read this and think/say, "I don't see the point to this," and some people who read it, giggle, and go about their day a little happier than before. The question is all about the ratio-- if the former greatly outnumber the latter, then I'm on the wrong track; if the latter group is fairly substantial, then there's a demographic for fics like this.
Again, thank you for your comments. They definitely got me thinking. (My room mate/best friend/guy who came up with the plot was like, "Why are you taking this so seriously? Just say, 'Well, obviously you didn't get the point, stupid' and ignore it." But a reader as thoughtful as you is rarely missing the point, it's just that you think the intended point is, well, pointless.)

You're almost exactly right, and I now know more about Harry Potter. "Vol de mort" actually translates as "flight of death", but you're close enough.
I would have expected someone like Percy as Rarity, not Malfoy.
I have read all the books and sean all 8 movies. The books i read is on my main lunguitsh swedish and i don't rely remember his name in english. In fact i don't even know if he was in the 3 last movies.
In swedish this rat's name is Peter Petergru also known as Slingersvans. A rat aid his escape an thirteenth year is obvius. The rat escaped the thirteenth year and he found Voldermort. But as far as i know it was not until the end of the forthteenth year he was totaly revived.
I don't know if i wana screem or not. This is ridiculus an i don't mean the spell. Twilight and Hermiony i can see but not Applejack and Nevil or Pinkie and Ron. Rainbow and Harry i can't se anything then the flying skill. This only fells disturbing.
It is hilarius and frustrating. Flutershy and Luna Lovegood are you kiding.
And I only feal rage of that it is Rarity Draco.

2 o clock the morning was not a good time to read horcrux of harmony, or to read banishing old voldi to Albania. ......... I like the idea, dislike the way it's done. I would rather it be closer to harry potter Canon, in a way that stays true to the personalities of the characters while introducing the elements of harmony. Can you imagine draco Malfoy as the element of loyalty, harry potter as honesty, dobby as kindness, both of the twins as laughter, and others? ...............I'll call it harry potter and the elements of harmony.
