The nation of Equestria has changed. No longer is it a land of peace and harmony, now it is a land filled with strife and violence. The nation that was once united has been split, both sides wishing to eliminate one another. Amidst this conflict the need for soldiers became a all-time high, leading to the rise of mercenaries. Follow the story of a young stallion and how he met the famous mercenary, Applejack.

I know it was a one shot but I think you should make a sequel like: he gets captured by an beet because some pony found out he once was in the mercenaries and he finds applejack again and they work out a plan to get out. just an idea incase you did want to make a sequel but the story was still totally awesome!!!
Hmm...very good story. Oh, and from your description I would have to say these ponies are semi-anthro, they're able to walk on two legs and are slightly altered to do so, but that's it. For the most part they still retained same appearance as normal ponies. Which is not too uncommon in anthro mlp stories they're just far in between from one another.
