Slate Sadpony

Male earth pony. Exceptionally weird.

E

Rarity normally sees Hearth's Warming Eve as a pretty simple holiday. Eat cookies, put up with family, make Sweetie Belle a nice dress. But when all of Sweetie's other presents turn out to be clothes, Rarity can't bear the disappointment in her sister's cute little eyes. After finding an old Dress Me Daisy doll in her childhood bedroom, Rarity decides to make the doll into a perfect present.

I expected another generic 'Rarity is generous!!!' fic when I started reading this, but it proved much deeper than that. Perfectly captures an adult looking back at childhood present opening, complete with expectations and disappointment with clothing. Sweetie still loving the hacked-up dress was just icing, since Rarity can fix it up later. This was so sweet

Minor correction: you have Rarity's mom telling Rarity to give "your daughter" her present rather than "your sister". (Happens to us all.) Very cute story, I enjoyed it. :raritywink:

I always saw Sweetie as looking up to Rarity deeply, and loving everything she does with that sort of adoring, "I wish I was as cool as my big sister" manner. She loves the dress and the doll because they are from Rarity.

And yeah I wanted to show Rarity desperate to make sure Sweetie had a good holiday, in spite of her parents not really knowing what Sweetie wanted.

I do find it odd that as a kid I hated getting clothes, but as an adult I like getting clothes because it reduces my clothes spending budget.

Also if anyone buys me a Rainbow Dash T-Shirt, they are the best friend ever.

Typo Fix'd.

We can leave the "Sweetie Belle is actually Rarity's secret love child!" drama-line to the other fanfic writers.

:rainbowlaugh: Don't know if I've seen that one before. The Applejack/Apple Bloom variant seems pretty common headcanon, though, for some reason...

That's one of the things that crossed my mind when thinking about writing the comment, but had forgot it! Gotta agree with the clothes thing, too. I love getting clothes, because when you're living alone and paying for a 2-person apartmenr yourself, money is best spent on, y'know, essentials.

The ending was fine. You did pretty well. And yet another sweet story you wrote.

“Honey, give your daughter her present,” said Rarity’s mother.

But umm, I didn't know Rarity was Sweetie Belle's second mother. :rainbowlaugh:

I am sometimes tempted to write a soap-opera variant of the ponies wherein they are all related to one another and/or have several love children they don't know about due to amnesia and evil clones.

Then I remember to take my medicine.

3287055

I thought I fixed that...

I wrote "my daughter" then corrected it to "your sister" but messed it up.

Hit refresh, let me know if it's fixed. It SHOULD be.

Good stuff!! Hope there's more to come :rainbowkiss:x10

Given your username, I think you'd enjoy "Life Is Not Fair" as well.

Oh, someone pointed it out already.
Heh... it's good now.

I remember when this story was just in its planning days. Nice to see it up here now.

Do it! This place can always use another good parody!

I hesitate to do so unless I have appropriate assistance.

This stuff can go bad very quickly.

I volunteer. It sounds like a fun project. :pinkiehappy:
(Feel free to check out my own parody work first, if you like.)

I'm glad you helped me with it :)

Love the cover art you used, btw. :raritywink:

I try to pick good images off of Derpibooru.

I just hope the artists don't get mad...

This was aweseome!

Ah, this was a very sweet fic and it captured a portion of Rarty's character and showcased it rather well. While the plot itself is quite simple, this was written with a certain well-paced integrity that had me enjoying the whole story. It's not ambitious, but it accomplishes what it set out to do wonderfully.

I'm glad I read it. Thanks for writing,
~SilentBelle

I am really glad you liked it!

3287295

I wanted a simple, fun story that showed off how much Rarity cares for her younger sibling.

I am glad you liked it! :)

3287299 It was simple sweet and totally Rarity.

3287325

Mission accomplished!

Very sweet, you did Rarity quite well I think.

Lovely Sweetie Belle and Rarity Story. I like them in sibling stories, because they seem like the most real siblings in the show. I mean AJ is like a mom and sister to AB, and Rainbow has Scootaloo always trying to please. Other siblings aren't focused on as much as these two either.

Well done, Slate. Well done.

Quite a wonderful story ! (Although I think I'm hooked on calling people "Sweetie" Now :twilightblush:) You did a Wonderful job making this story seem so relatable to real life. I can relate to this every Christmas with my niece (Oh, HOW she can whine until she gets what she wants. Sometimes, it just makes me so :applejackconfused:)
However, I did notice on little grammar/punctuation error while I was reading:

”Well, please hang your coat and hat wait in the kitchen,” said Rarity. “I still need to powder my nose a bit and get ready. Pinkie left some holiday cookies on the table, feel free to help yourself.

Don't mean to sound picky :twilightblush:, but it seems your choice of words for "please hang you coat and hat wait" doesn't really make sense. Also, your missing a quotation mark at the end.

Anyways, good job! (Although, I did feel like the ending should have been a bit longer for some reason :unsuresweetie:)

I left out an "and" in there. I went in and fixed it.

I'm glad you liked it so much!

This fic will likely have a special place in my heart as being a seamstress myself I have memories of dressing up my dolls and doing fashion shows with friends, though I won't deny when I was as young as Rarity I likely wasn't doing much cutting an sewing.

I'm so glad you liked it!

And you just know that when Rarity was Sweetie's age, she was running fashion shows in her bedroom.

And in my story, it was Dress Me Daisy who was the star of the show every time! :raritystarry:

I wanna commission a pic of her doing such a thing some day, but I dunno who I'd hire, and even if I did know, I dunno if I could afford it...

You wanted my comments? I'm a sucker for Rarity and Sweetie fics, and this one did not fail to deliver on the adorableness that those two can produce. You must have a younger sibling, given how well you capture that feeling of devotion big brothers/sisters have.

The prose was great, there were some parts (like you said, the ending lacked a certain emotional punch) where I could tell you couldn't spend that much time on given the time constraints.

You did very well here, better than anything I could write under the same circumstances.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I do have a younger sibling, but...She's nothing like Sweetie Belle. I won't go into detail, but we haven't spoken in years.

Very appropriate that this has no downvotes

3488209

I'm glad that you like it!

It's currently being re-written to try and spruce it up for Christmas. So check up on it again in December!

Oh... its so sweet!!! I love moments with Rarity and Sweetie Belle. They are my favorite siblings from the show, with Shining and Twilight and Celestia and Luna tied for second place. This was sooo lovely.

3554185

I'm glad you like it!

And for me Dashie/Scoot are the best "siblings."

3554191

Huh, I don't really consider them siblings, but I loved the episode 'Sleepless in Ponyville'. It showed Rainbow's softer side, didn't it?

Besides, I think in order of cuteness, the CMC would go
1. Sweetie Belle
2.Apple Bloom
3. Scootaloo. she's just a bit too tomboyish for me, but she's still nice though.

3554205

When I saw "Sleepless in Ponyville" all I thought was "I wish I had someone in my life like that when I was a kid."

What a lovely story! Sweetie Belle is truly bestest and most cutest tiny pony. :yay:

Oh, don't look at me like that. I KNOW that at least half of you already made that joke. :fluttershysad:

I'm glad you liked the story.

And yes, the title is shamelessly ripped from the Magic card.
