Shattered Skies

I love to read. Besides the show, the fanfiction is probably my favorite part of being a brony. Never before have I ever seen such a large amount of reading material that I enjoy in one place.

T

The world of Equestria has been the sight of many wars over the last twenty years. Each of these wars have given birth to heroes. Heroes who, through insurmountable odds, brought about victory for their allies and defeat to those who dared oppose their skill. They fought some of the most dangerous weapons ever to be constructed by pony kind to ensure the safety of their brothers in arms and future peace for the world. Revered as legends among their companions and demons among their enemies, they took to the skies of distant battlefields to fight impossible battles that will forever secure their place in the tomes of aerial warfare.

I have scoured the world in search of the truth behind these legendary pilots. I have spoken to their friends, and their rivals, and those who were inspired by them, in attempt to learn all I can about them. I have gone to their home nations and interviewed those who commanded them, to learn about the impossible feats they accomplished in the name of victory. Through my efforts, I feel that I have gotten to the heart of the three aces that I have researched. In my collections I will tell the tale of tragedy that is the Demon Lord and his unheard of feats. I will uncover the ponies behind the plane known as the Grim Reaper by its enemies and the Ribbon Fighter by all. I will let everyone know the truth behind the unsung war and its unsung heroes.

The first story that will be told is that of the Ribbon, and its roll in single hoofingly turning the tide of a war, and preventing the flames of hatred from scorching the skies. The plane and its pilot who flew through those shattered skies, leaving an echo like distant thunder.

Ace Combat 4 X MLP = Instant Track

“Probably mid air recharging”
I thought it was Mid Air Refuel.

266417 Magical enchantment allows fuel to be directly transported into the fuel tanks. This enchantment runs out after a set period of time, so it needs to be recharged by a recharging aircraft. This is supposed to explain the time limit given for missions in the actual game.

266075 Not just any F-22, but Mobius 1's F-22 which ,by extension makes it Rainbow Dash's F-22, so that particular plane is about 3 times as awesome as the normal version.

Yay! More Ace Combat x MLP stories. :pinkiehappy:

274493 Don't worry. No one seems to hate it, and with people tracking I now feel obliged to continue. Of course your encouragement also helps.

275264 Don't know why you would think that. The description has shattered skies and distant thunder in it, the two names for AC4. It also has the second half of the quote that appears in the beginning of the game. The prologue says this takes place on the continent of Usea while AC6 takes place on Anea .Sitting Duck is the name of the first mission in AC4 and of course Mobius 1 is the ace from AC4 whose symbol is the ribbon while Garuda 1 is from AC6 whose symbol is a bird of prey (probably and eagle since he flies a Strike Eagle). As I am sure you can tell, I am a huge Ace Combat nerd.

Wow, it is amazing how many last minute changes I had to make when faced with the prospect of people actually reading it. If it wasn't for that last read through, I would probably have a lot more red thumbs due to silly mistakes.

Hmm not bad, not bad. I like the funny talk going on between Dash and Twilight. It was funny to me somehow xD. :rainbowlaugh:

283296 I hope you found it funny. It was kind of the point.

266075
Mobius 1 has the best plane, but my favorite plane used by an Ally is PJ's F-16C because I love the F-16 "Viper", I also don't think that the F-22 Raptor will replace the F-16 due to the cost of Raptor and it's few numbers.

This is amazing, it almost completely follows the Ace Combat 04 storyline. This is how a good crossover should be.

284760 I'm glad you enjoy the style. I was worried that people might not like it because it's a ponification of Ace Combat 4, thus making the plot rather predictable. Luckily the game is not big on specifics or details, which makes it a lot easier to add, change, or elaborate on small things that occur before, during, and after missions. Also, Mobius 1 has absolutely no set personality (like all the other playable aces of Strangereal), and he does not interact with anyone at all, so I have a lot of freedom there. This lack of detail was the reason why I chose to do 4 first rather than 5 or Zero, which both have ,IMO, a better storytelling element and a lot more defined characters that would make it much harder to avoid the "insert pony for protagonist and copy plot" situation.

A few spelling errors and the name is Allenfort (not to be mean), but this definitely did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. I love Ace Combat as well, mainly the ones on the PS1 and PS2. Also you are doing great.

284892
I would have enjoyed it even if this was an exact copy of AC04, also that is what makes Ace Combat great the lack of detail about the main character leaves it open to interpretation of what the character is like and if its a male or female (though it is more likely to be male), the one and only complaint is the lack of the storyboy writing a letter to Mobius 1. And the launching a hoofball (is that a football or soccerball) is hilarious. (Also to note enjoy the brony culture, even though I am not.)

Keep on writing my friend. Stay great.

284938 Thanks for the feed back, I greatly appreciate it. I know the name is Allenfort, but that is a human based name so I changed it. I had the same problem with the Anderson's Crater, but I couldn't think of a good name for it, so I just called it the crater. Another difference is that all three carriers are present in the real game and are named the Fort Grace, Port Edwards, and St. Ark (or so I have read), but I didn't want the Aegir Fleet's reputation as Invincible to come out of nowhere, or pass up a chance for a little world building. On the issue of spelling, the I am rather proud that there are only a few errors since I am my own editor, and spelling is not my strong suite. . The colt at the beginning of the Prologue, and at the end of the Equestria's Newest Ace is the storyteller boy. I'm just taking a different perspective to avoid copying the game word for word on such an important part of the plot. I agree with the lack of detail being a good thing. There is nothing better than saying that I am the ribbon, or the demon lord, or ghost of Razgriz. I think it is generally accepted that the hoofball is a football. I actually never considered the fact that it might be a soccer ball. Also I love the Grabarc emblem

286152 Thanks. Keep doing a great job on the Haylo series.

286154
Thanks I wanted to pick something that represents me, I love Ace Combat and Snakes so I chose Grabcr. Also it is amazing the few amount of spellings errors, thats why I will not be writing fanfics. Keep this up. It is the best crossover I have read along with Shattered Rainbows by Brotato.

Needs the debriefing, also don't quite like the way the Storyteller boy's parts are written, these minor complaints don't take away from how great this is. Also I love the song at the end, it is one of the few tracks that stands out (other than the Osean National Anthem). I am listening to a walkthrough (without commentary) while reading this. Keep it up my friend. Also don't mess with Sky Eye's speech at the end when you get there, that is one of my favorite end quotes of all time.

315508 There will be more. Let there be no doubt of that.

320752 Thanks for the feed back. Like I said, the debriefing didn't have much to add, and I want to avoid being repetitive. For the storyteller boy's sections, could you please elaborate on why you don't like it. If it's just not your cup of tea, that's fine, but if there is something more concrete, I would like to know. I'm afraid that copying the letter is out of the question (However it will make an appearance). I just don't think I could go into enough detail so that others can visualize what's going on. Also, the work wouldn't be my own. I am happy to hear that you enjoy the music, and I'm curious as to what walkthrough you are watching. Once again thanks.

320892
Actually the more I think about it the more I think it is not a bad way of doing it. Also I know that during the game the Allied comments are picked at random but I think Halo 10 doesn't talk about Wingman considerations until the mission Tango Line and being predictable in altitude until the attack on Stonehenge. Of course I know (like I mentioned before) that these are random and appear at any time, I just never have gotten these messages in Imminent Threat. Also how did you come up with Prench. One more thing is I love the soundtrack in all the games but my favorite is ACZ with Zero and the Epilouge: Near the Border. I haven't listened to or played the first 2 and the ones after Zero.

322869 Prance is a fan name for a pony city or country that I have read in a few stories. I chose it because on the last mission you hear of two Erusians with the names Gene and Jean-Louis, which sound french to me. Both Zero and Epilogue are on my list of favorite ace combat songs (yes I have a list), but Diapason is my favorite from ACZ. I have also played all of the games for PS2 and Xbox 360 (AC4,5,Zero,6,and AH), but none of the ones for the Play Station, PSP, or 3DS.

323478
I noticed the French sounding name Jean-Louis (his stood out the most) and I actually haven't played 6 or Assault Horizon (the latter I don't like the move to the real world, I have no idea why people love the concept so much) but they look good.

324930 Ace Combat 6 and Assault Horizon are both ok. The scale of the missions in 6 is much larger than previous games, the gun is much more effective, and with allied attack and defense, the A.I. will actually help when called upon. Unfortunately the story is meh, and your wingman is a twit (IMO). Another interesting fact is that no other AC as ever fired such an obscene amount of missiles at one aircraft, on four separate occasions no less. It's ridiculous. Assault Horizon is faster paced but has a smaller scale. The missions are more cinematic, though I don't feel that it is over used. It's story is also forgettable, and there is a little too much emphasis on Dogfight Mode. I don't really care for the move to the real world, and I prefer that the story of Strangereal continues. Both have decent music, but not as much as past installments (IMO). AC6 has more orchestral tracks (I think) and ACAH has a mix of rock, orchestral, and electronics.

325039
I have always enjoyed the story telling, I like story over multiplayer anytime. And I almost forgot there was one game for the GBA. I have played AC3: Electrosphere and there are aircraft (especially the later in the game) that carry about 8 missles that can be fired in quick succession not to mention (though this is not that important) the graphics are great for a PS1 game. Unfortunatly the game is much shorter than the JP version, the JP version allowed you to play as the terrorist organization Ouroboros and the General Resource Defense Force and Neucom (all with different aircraft for that faction), I am sure it had a much deeper story, and FMV (if you can call him that) cutscenes; though these are more in the style of Anime.

I recently finished a good game from Project Aces, its for the Wii, called The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, it is based on a novel called The Sky Crawlers. I loved it, especially the story, but I would expect no less from Project Aces.

353887 Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

This is really well-written and deserves more viewers. You set up the story just right, your detail is amazing and you explained how the fighters are operated very well.

But most importantly, you gave this story that 'Ace Combat' feel and for that, I congratulate you!

:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

I feel like I'm playing it again! You even set up the briefing right! :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

I'll definitely be following this!

Let's get this briefing started! :twilightsheepish::twilightsheepish:

This story is great, and I love how well you described the debriefing part. Everything seems to be rolling on just fine.

Sometime in the distant future, I wanna put together an Ace Combat 5 crossover (it was my favorite Ace Combat) and I will use your story as a guide on how to write it.

You should continue this! Even if you're underrated! :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

626476 I have been working on the next chapter, but its going a lot more slowly than I would like. Missions 3 and 4 are not very exciting. I have ideas for Missions 5-12 but I need to get past 3 and 4 first. I will finish the story, it's just taking longer than I had hoped. Also related to Shattered Skies

I love the conflict between Twi and Rainbow, and also the irony of the kid playing music with his parents' murderer! :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

This is a good story that needs to be continued!:twilightsmile:

When I first saw the Mk. 83 I thought it said B83 and I was all like...
"WHY DAFUQ ARE THEY USING NUKES?!?!?"

Hello everyone! I bet most of you didn't remember that this story exist, not that I blame anyone other than myself. Not updating for several months tends to have that effect. Unfortunately the next update will probably not be made anytime soon because of collage applications, senior project essays and of course new video games (Halo 4!). Now onto the chapter itself. I planned for it to cover the entire mission, but it was becoming a lot longer than I imagined so I cut it short. Also, if you feel that anything is amiss, feel free to notify me. All criticism is appreciated.

Grammar errors! Other than that, great! And good job adding the briefing music.

1520500 I've considered getting an editor, but I don't work on this regularly enough. I'd hate to ask someone and then, months later, give them something to edit.

This was a good thing though; it meant that the neural interface enchantment known as the COFFIN (Control For Flight Interface) system was working.

Hold up, how does a F-4 in AC4 have the COFFIN system? I thought only the Falken had that by this time, or are you just implementing it so the flight would be easier to explain? If that's the case, then I'm ok with that

1612152 Needed a way to explain flight controls that fit with equine physiology. I figured that with magical enchantments and such, it would be a more feasible technology especially since it is more necessary.

Insta fav. its Ace combat. Increadible game.

1905659 Hopefully you'll enjoy the story as well.

10/10 would read again. Just a great chapter

Sorry, I hadn't read this chapter already, so I just now read it.

1523483 I'm a grammar National Socialist, I'd be more than happy to help.

'Tis a shame this story seems to be dead, and the author hasn't been online in over a year. :(
