Airstream

By windward strides and holy ghosts, what rests beside the barren coasts?

T
Source

What if things had gone a bit differently for Twilight Sparkle? What if she had settled down, gotten married, had a foal? What if that foal had been the death of her? What if that foal had gone on to help forge a new Equestria, a new paradise for all within? What if, after all this, her daughter, an Alicorn, had settled on a throne alongside Celestia, and began to make the world perfect?

What if you didn't want to be perfect? What if you ran, hid in any scrap of shadow you could find? What if you lived your life from the outside looking in, watching others prosper while you starved? What if you could do nothing but watch as others disappeared, never to be seen again?

And then, after all of that...what if they found you?

You think an alicorn of thought would be aware of where ponies are hiding in the world. But apparently all it took was one to come under the gaze of the sun.

How intriguing.:pinkiehappy:
I'd like to see how this fares.:duck: Perhaps things will actually go well?:unsuresweetie:

Awaiting further releases.:fluttershysad:

This is certainly interesting. How far along after Everstar's birth is this?

You think things will go well?

Oh, sweet summer child.

3155633
Not really.:duck:
But one must hope.:raritydespair:

This sounds interesting. Can't wait for more.

Oh, an alternate universe of an alternate universe? Alternate universception? I love it.

Quite the tension grabber with Princess Everstar and Sunrise dialogue and behavior. The suspense is quite nerve wrecking due to the detail. I constantly try to see if there is anything amiss that leads to a greater piece of the story. Keep up the interesting writing (and my nerves, ha ha ha :pinkiecrazy:)

Chilling. Once again, I must remark on the mindfuckery potential of this fic.

I'm liking and faving this st-

“Would you kindly prepare the Garden for our use?” Princess Everstar said.

“Would you kindly prepare the Garden for our use?”

“Would you kindly?"

God I already have a feeling Twilights daughter will be a huge bitch, which surprised me at first; But then I remembered which of the thousands of universes I've read of on this site this takes place in, and who taught her.

Really hope Luna is just a servant to her sister here and is at least slightly similar to her rebel self in the original story lines.

This is actually really disturbing. I can really feel the opressive atmosphere in this fic. It's unsettling in a way. Another masterful piece of work though you got going on. This is most interesting. Most interesting indeed.

Lovely, Lovely Dark tag. How long is this one going to be, airstream? Any estimate?

Is this gonna be a long ass fic like it's predecessors or relatively short? Just wondering. It's very engaging so far, though it makes me hate the Alicorns even more as I read.:flutterrage:

reminds me of inception. like what if it was all in her mind and really her dauter was trying to save/find her mom after she lost her shit.

An alternate universe... of an alternate universe... with even MORE mindfucks?

Am I dreaming? Or did you just create another badass fic?

3156174 Explain it would you please? The only thing I can think of is that Big Macintosh was Twi's husband.

Hmm. The description seems interesting... But I will withhold from reading until ther are at least 3 chapters. So until then. Cherio:pinkiesmile:

Bioshock reference, though I can't recall if it's the first game or the second. I think it was the first, but I'm not sure.
Your character is... compelled to do as asked, whenever the (exact) words "would you kindly," are included in the request.

I always said that a world of complete order is just as much a hell as a world of complete chaos...

Well, not always, but I have said it before.

3158101
As has been said time and time again, there must be balance.
Order cannot exist without chaos, and chaos cannot be without order.
When one side becomes too powerful, hell breaks loose for all involved.

What a world. The ponies have their butt brands, slave collars, and shackled minds. All in exchange for a so-called order. Honestly, I think this would be a lighter story if you swapped Celestia for Molestia at this point.

So, is Sunrise basically being brainwashed by Everstar? Wonder how dark this story will become. I'm curious as to what this Garden is and how it plays into the greater narrative.

3157417 an alternate universe of what alternate universe? I looked but couldn't find a reference in the summary.

3158644 The AU of Lines and Webs and Dusk's Dangerous Game. Basically, this is what could've happened if Twilight DIDN'T kill off Morning Star and do a coup d'état on Celestia.

3158779
... WAH!

How didn't I see that?! :facehoof: (head-desk)

Nice catch in other words, I didn't notice that it was Airstream. I knew the writing looked familiar.

I have this stone in my stomach when I try to think were this will go. I can't imagine it going very well considering all that happened in Lines and Webs and Dusk's Dangerous game. I fear the dark tag in this may be referencing things that I cannot stomach but I will forge ahead to see if that is so. I really do hope it isn't any darker than those two but I doubt it and I think it will be darker.I eagerly await more until something I can;t deal with happens.

I noticed that at one point Sunrise was called Sunset. Minor blunder, but overall a very intriguing story.

3155633
Oh, why hello there author of this story!:twilightsheepish:
I mistook the author for another user.:facehoof:

See's authors name.

Reads description.

'Runs away screaming from another utterly captivating horror before getting caught.'

Is this...pretty cool

One would think that everstar as twi's kid and alicorn of thought she would be smart enough to realized that she and everone is just but pawn's and toy's to celestia but that when thay have no use for her or rebel she kill's them or something she also should know celestia would have no compunctions about doing the same to her like she did to twilight and she was like daughter to celestia and she was bread like a dog by celestia birth her and also murdered her mother and she has no true free will for her self and if not then she is no better than celestia herself or is just blindly fallows her like twi or she has no clue and is a idiot.

3158615
Not so much brainwashed as made to forget truths and realities contradictory to the present one. Probably pretty dark, considering that if she just forgot then everything would go "much better" and the story would be over. As it is, it seems clear that her memories are destined to break through eventually despite efforts to the contrary.

As to the Garden, me too...

3161213
I don't think that's how it works. If a system is about order, then any kind of disorder is repugnant and distasteful to almost everyone in it. You have to remember that Everstar likely grew up in the current way of things and would be influenced by them much the way Twilight was. They were both in some ways products of their environment. Twilight only rebelled because the options were bleak, Celestia had taken everything she had "taught" Twilight and turned it on it's head, and because it actually went against what Twilight wanted. She would never have complained about paying taxes and all those other things considered good and normal which are all themselves products of Order.

Bred like a dog isn't really true either, because it wasn't forced, just manipulated. It's not as though Celestia put two ponies in a room and made them do it while she watched, which would be kinda strange and perverse. Everstar likely wouldn't understand that her birth was forced on Twilight or that her birth caused her mother's death (most likely). She didn't murder her mother any more than Celestia did. Everstar had no choice or intention in the matter, and Celestia's action, aside from abridging free will are more like criminal negligence, maybe manslaughter (or is that ponyslaughter? :( ) than murder.

No one, not even us has truly free will. No amount of will will grant me inherent flight or something like purple hair. There are many ways in which our will is limited. The real problem is the limiting of the few ways in which our will is not normally limited.

Everstar would never consider that at this point. I don't think her or Cadence are really constrained by Celestia as much as they are constrained by their own nature. In a way, even Celestia is constrained by her nature in this story

Now this is some fine Orwellian writing. I love it!

3161213
Pawns and toys? No! Exactly the opposite, my friend. Celestia wouldn't be doing all of this if she thought of her subjects as toys. No, she loves them like a mother loves her children. She loves them all with all of her heart.

Which, if you think about it, makes her actions even more terrifying.

3163152

Mother knows best.

I have to agree, this is quite a terrifying future and it seems equestria has adopted some form of caste system or can anyone raise their status?

3166516
Why would you ever want to change your status?

“Would you kindly prepare the Garden for our use?” Princess Everstar said.

Not sure if this was on purpose or not but this made me think of the first Bioshock.

I'm intrigued to say the least. :moustache:
Will be watching

3163152

She doesn´t seems to have any remorse about killing the "problematic" ones.
By the way, are the other races still around, or has Celestia already driven them to extinction?

Huh, this is very good, I've always wanted to see the world Celestia would create if she succeeded in her plans to birth the fourth Alicorn. I always pictured it as a shining bright world where there are no social ills, everyone is provided for, and all negative emotions have been wiped clean from the world and it's not until you step back from the blinding sunlight into the shade that you see how monstrous it truly is.

Also, I find my concerns shifted more towards the non-pony denizens of the world. In DDG, in the Aether, Morning Star seemed so sure that Celestia would bring about the extinction of the other species (albeit indirectly). So is it true? Are the other species gone? Or have they proven more resilient?

3182425

Despite ponykind status as "chosen race" by the Avatars, Cadence proved in DDG her domain over emotion extends to all species too. It´s possible many of all of them had been subjugated and incorporated into the modern society as compiliant slaves.

3185455 Now that's a fate worse than death...

Also, just hearing that phrase "chosen race" makes me want to crush Equestria until it's nothing but a burnt land of ash and rubble. It really just makes me want to kick Celestia from her high pedestal.

3191766

The ponies are as subjugated to the alicorns´ "genjutsu" as any other, if that is a consolation.:fluttershbad:
As for Celestia, do you remember this scene?

Cast:
Celestia: crazy woman
Passengers: All of Airstream´s readers.

This story reminds me of the song RISE by miracle of sound go to YouTube and take a look and see for your self

319353 True, I probably wouldn't commit genocide against the ponies of Equestria, but I would love to crush Celestia's rule and confidence. You know, shock-and-awe and the like.

Finally got around to reading this. Knowing you, this is going to have two plot twists per chapter, so keep up the good work!
