The age of consent can be ignore for legal purposes if one of the partners is of a certain year range older than the younger partner. As far as the point of aging them up to the 'age of consent' for a fictional world, it's beyond me, but if we're taking the legality of it into play, then exceptions are made constantly for the rule as long as they are of similar age and post-puberty.
Now, it does seem that the age of consent changed for a lot of the states within the past 7 years or so, since when I was 14 it somewhere around 12-14 in TN.

hey so you're kind of ruining the joke but the whole 'age of consent' thing is a play that people do to make their readers feel less scummy for lusting after supposedly underage fictional cartoon horses. like when people say 'aged up to age of consent' (like chuckie hence the reference god bless amen). except i circumvented that by saying they're still illegal from the audience's perspective anyway. so you ruined it. and everything. forever.
