She decides that the only way to save him is to admit the feelings she has for him. But is Rarity really treating him the way Sweetie thinks she is?

Meh, I'm not sure a truly original storyline is possible anymore. It's far more important that a story is well done.
I always thought Rarity is the worst representative of her element in the show, so greedy / manipulative Rarity does not bother me in the least. I also think there are not enough Sweetie x Spike fics out there.
So bottom line, I like the storyline, but I'm not too enthused about your presentation. If you want a detailed breakdown I can provide it, just let me know.

Sweetie Belle to the rescue... Maybe? I like it, I'm definitely going to read it.
Just some things I thought to mention: Rarity is usually inspired when she makes dresses for her friends (Spike's generosity, and Twilight's plain dress for the gala). Her doing it on a whim is kind of OOC. They are Spike's friends too, so Rarity should use our when talking about their friends. Twilight knows that Rarity uses him and is very astute, she shouldn't be asking that question. The sibling "fight" seemed a little abrupt, even for her trying to protect her crush.
I never liked manipulative Rarity at all. Now, a Rarity that doesn't return the feelings, I can understand, but Rarity would never manipulate the poor kid. That's not her!
But I can't judge until I see where this will go. I'll keep an eye on this, but I'm not quite sure I like where this is going

My only issue is with citrine which is only semi-precious. Sure it is less common than white quartz but it's still not all that rare. Quartz is the second most abundant miniral in nature. Topaz is a much rarer and more valuable precious gemstone and can be yellow.

Yeah, while I did do a bit of research on gems before writing this, I only did enough to know that citrine is at least fairly rare, and that it's often replaced by heat-treated amethyst.
I wanted Rarity here to be shown as a kind, generous pony, while also showing her as manipulative at times. If I replaced the citrine with topaz, I could show off the generous side of her even more. Alright, I'll replace the citrine with topaz.
Thank you for sharing with me your knowledge of jewelry. I think I'm gonna do more reasarch on the subject, but not until a point in the story where more gems are introduced.
