Airstream

By windward strides and holy ghosts, what rests beside the barren coasts?

Two hundred years. That's how long it's been since Discord was freed, how long it's been since he agreed to spread his power across Equestria to help preserve the Balance. At least, that's how the legend goes. Nopony believes in Discord anymore. He's just a myth, a fable meant to scare fillies and colts to sleep at night. A metaphor for the terrifying prospect of war.

Of course, that's how he likes it. It makes his job a lot easier, and his sales go a lot farther. Anything under the sun, be it love, or money, or fame, or eternal life, it can be bought at cost. And there is always a cost. And the good Doctor, as he is now known, will be more than happy to sell it to you.

So, step into this small town with us, see what deals can be made, and remember to always read the fine print. After all, the good Doctor will always give you what you want. But you should be careful what you wish for.

This felt very- I can't remember the word now, so I'll make one up- explainative. Although, I guess most of the stuff you talk about, I already know so it would make sense to talk about it for everyone not part of the group. Other than that it looks like it's going to get very interesting, very quickly.

Also, I love this line:

The night was still, the still of the deeply sleeping, or the newly dead.

I'm certainly looking foward to the rest of this but the only thing I found annoying was using He as a name, it just gets overwhelming but I do realize why your using it but it still annoys me.

Ohh. Ominous. Discord doing his thing with the lands that Chaos claims.

I'm guessing this is a part of the Lines and Webs storyline?

Most of their original owners were dead. Some of them had even died of old age.

Well that's not ominous at all.

I have to say, I'm liking this take on Discord already.

Interesting.

"Doctor Duello" seems a sort between Mr. Gaunt of Needful Things (Stephen King) and YÅ«ko Ichihara of xxxHolic. But mostly the first.

You.

Magnificent.

Bastard.

I love it. :raritystarry:

Hmm... very intriguing. I look forward to seeing this road in its entirety when as it is built.

"The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist."

Obvious quotes aside, this seems pretty promising so far, but I'm Gonna hold back judgment until there is a clearer indication of which direction this is going.

Three rules, and such a varied set they are. So open, in the right situation, and in the wrong one, the devil in the details applies oh so much.

Of the three, the one that is the biggest scare, is number two. "The second rule, and the one He had the most trouble with nowadays, was that He was not allowed to use His magic except in such a fashion as His clients wished him to use it." Very clever wording. A smart one will see that little rule, and have a get out of consequence to it, that they can undo what they asked, a poor one, well, "Buyer Beware."

The first, "The first and most important rule. Nopony would be turned away, not even if He hated them." Seems either a red herring, or a chekov moment, time will tell.

As for the third, "And the third rule. The best one of all, or so He thought. It made things more challenging. One week, that was all He was allowed." Clear, in part, but with an element of danger, cleverness can be a strange little thing, done right, to what defines a week.

You have a lovely start to this, still, does he in any way have to tell them these rules?

3132666
No, he certainly doesn't.

3132734 hahah! Now this should be an interesting little thing then, and where I wonder just where and when that first rule will start to apply.

At first I thought you were going to make something of the Doctor cameo from Lines and Webs. But this is also enticing.

So, if I was reading correctly, the only ones remaining from DDD are Celly, Loony, and Discord, or is Candace still kicking?

3133012
And Twilight. Don't forget our dear Lady.

3133213 Well, you did say the Elements died, so...

Now THIS I am going to enjoy. Discord is one of my favorites from the show. He fits the whole "Needful Things" theme nicely. Is this story your main focus right now or will you update as the mood hits?

3132734

Are those truly His rules, or part of His deal with Twilight two thousand years ago?

Great start!

hay airstream, are you ever going to make a story where Twilight and Celestia have a happy ending?:applecry:

also loving the discord.

Very interesting, indeed; can't wait for the next chapter!

One wish, Doctor Discord: That nothing capable of thought on this world may ever again have a thought again that leads to either their death or the deaths of others.

Discord realizes there is no way he can twist this, because whatever he does will affect him as well, unless he wishes to erase his own mind in the process.

And so, the happy, innocent G4 Pony world came to be, all thanks to the genius of Alondro. :yay::twilightsmile::raritystarry::pinkiehappy::rainbowkiss::ajsmug:

Moral of the story: Never give a super genius a genie. He will PWN you soooooooo hard! :trollestia:

4690816
I suspect you and my version of Celestia would get along famously!

Might I refer you to my other work, Lines and Webs?

4690850 Seen a bit of it and the sequel.

She's too much of a tool, and Twi's too much of a bitch.

I just like screwing over gods. Especially gods that think they're all that and a bag of thinly sliced fried salted tubers. Screwing over mortals ain't even a challenge, ya know?

4691058
I wouldn't know much about gods, I don't really move in those circles. They're dangerous.

4691069 Nah, most of em aren't even that bright.

I mean, I TOTALLY screwed over the Roman gods! What a bunch of morons! HA!!

The only one that gave me trouble was Sutekh. There was one diabolical bastard if ever there was one. He later took on another name and continued to plague mankind with his evil.

He almost beat the Doctor! He actually took control of the Doctor's mind for a while!

Dat's some serious evil.

Can't wait to read more of this. Especially if its related to Lines and Webs/Dusk's Dangerous Game/Stormsinger/Courts of the Magi verse.

This is quite the oldie. I enjoyed the tone, though.
