Discord is no mere trickster, or simply an embodiment of Chaos. He is also one of the Ancients, the Sacred, the Elohim.

In the beginning, Discord was prideful, but not malevolent, creating many other creatures and beings. But after two of his finest creations betray him, Discord unleashes his fury upon Equus.

A Discord origin story.

Author's Note: This is a metaphysical piece written in under an hour as a thought exercise. Partially inspired by "Thus Dwell In Joy" by Ambysprite, the Babylonian creation myth Enuma Elish, and Julian Jaynes' treatise on consciousness.

Thanks to Loopy Legend and Ambysprite for editing.

Rated Teen for mild violence and darker elements.

2978361 Just... FUCKIN WOW!
Ok, we're gonna collab the Equuis Bible!

2982491

:pinkiehappy: I'm happy you enjoyed it! The Equus BIBLE? Oh man, not sure if I can write 66 books... :rainbowlaugh:

2982525 Thats a mis-count
Remember, in the 3rd century, the Catholic Church rewrote the Bible, changing it to suit it's needs, the Martin Luther did so again during the Reformation, when he split from Catholicism

2982535

True. I don't remember how many more books the Catholic Bible has...I want to say four (?) but I'm not sure. Plus, that's not counting all the books that didn't make it in, such as the Gospel of Thomas.

2982545 Yes, it is four books that Luther removed. And let us not forget from where Christianity rose from, Jewdeaism, (however the fuck its spelled) and the Jewish Bible, The Torah

2982558

Ahhh, so it was four. If I remember correctly, the Torah is actually the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Talmud is a Jewish commentary on the Torah, and contains guidance/exposition on the Torah.

2982586 Ah... and I bow to your greater knowledge XD

While I don't know the myth (?) surrounding the inspiration of this story, from what I read and understood was awesome. I just felt for Discord. That is a huge accomplishment when I am not even much of a Discord fan compared to the other ponies. Good job!!!

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Well, guess I'm not sleeping tonight. Damn dude that's one of the scariest things I've read.

It was meant to be a bit of a mind-trip, so I'll take that as a compliment.

AHRHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHRAHAHAHAHA

3015659

Dat laugh at the end.

Damn. That was a mindtrip.

Pretty awesome though, even though I don't know what this is based on. Good job dude.

3129396

Thanks! :pinkiehappy: It's based mostly off the "Enuma Elish" (Babylonian creation myth) and a bit of the Old Testament/Judeo-Christian lore. I'm glad it was a mindtrip for you when you read it...it was a mindtrip for me when I wrote it. :pinkiecrazy:

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!

In this sort of "creation-verse," there are other Elohim, but in their own "planes", universes, planets, etc., if you will. Similar to the Buddhist take on the Big Bang, there have been many creations and many beginnings, and will continue to be more as long as there are Elohim. Discord, the Silent, the Second, and Cele/Luna are the ones relevant to Equestria, though.

Interesting origin story.

Light-bringer... I see what you did there. :)

Lux aeternum.

Thanks! I'm glad you saw what I did. :twilightsheepish::moustache:

Redemptor noster, lumen aeternum Discordia.

3577176

Eternal light, Discord, redemptor...

The redeemer of the eternal light of Discord?

3581379

Missed a comma there before "Discordia," sorry. :twilightblush:

"Our redeemer, bringer of the eternal light, Discord."

Enuma Elish? CAN SOMEONE SAY BABYLON?

Is the Second supposed to be the creator of our world?

I think in truth this was a bit beyond my limited intellect. (Review here.) Clearly quite some achievement for an hour's work, though!
