Octavia has been having these really odd dreams. There is only one other mare she can talk to about this. Yes, Vinyl is the only one she can feel safe to tell this to. Well Vinyl has been thinking and doing some looking of her own on the matter and was going to try it on herself one night, but feels that Octavia would enjoy it more. Now months of fun are now on their way.

Sounds promising, though there are a few things I don't quite like.
First being Vinyl just jumping into action. She doesn't ask, doesn't even talk to Octavia about that. "Do you want to have a foal?" That question never pops up, she just jumps the gun, thinking that Octavia would be okay with being made pregnant without her consent. She turns both of their lives, and especially Octavia's ext nine months, upside down on nothing more than a hunch. Vinyl is a rash pony (if you are to believe how most people envision her), but even she wouldn't do something that life-changing.
Secondly; Octavia's reaction seems... mild, compared to what happened. Her fillyfriend just impregnated her out of the blue and she has a minor flip then joins a make-out session because she's oh-so-happy. I can't help but think that she'd be absolutely furious that Vinyl makes a sudden decision that, I don't want to say betrays her trust, but it just doesn't sit right with me that Octavia accepts her pregnancy so readily, it seems unnatural.
Aside from that, it's fairly good though you seem to be quite tell-y here and there, especially in the first 1/3rd of the story. I suggest reading up a little on that.

Well put it this way.
We saw Age Spells: Transforming ones physical age / development.
Transformation Magic: Both Twi turning a a frog into an Orange. That is both physical transmutation, altering species, and amalgamation. As well as Changeling Transformations Magic.
And Appearance Transformation: Adding Mustaches, and even again Changelings.
Thus in canon transformation magic is a thing. So while they won't show Mares growing penises, or Stallions growing a female reproductive system it is possible. Since the "Bud" mentioned in fics [the clitoris] is actually the vestigial parts of a penis that receded when the body was flooded with estrogen during the development of genitalia.
Since before you either become male or female the fetus's gender is mostly undecided. It's that flooding of Hormones that decides M or F. So it's totally possible to grow one with Unicorn magic one way or another. Using basic, transformation magics.

I'm on Chapter 17 of Two Mares. Although it was an inspiration for you ... please have better pacing. That stories pacing is abominable, I'm just reading it because it inspired this fic. The time skips skip way to much, the pacing is horrible, and it feels rushed in places.
As for the spell. ... Taking a part of your mate's fur / mane / tail, and using it to impregnate somepony is good and all, but doesn't feel as passionate as getting it on like Donkey Kong. Well regardless I like your fic, and it is the better of the two [Two Mares and this one] so far.

I knew there would be somethings I'm just not getting right. But hey, I got to learn and by writing is the best way to learn. I will say that the numbers I seen this story get kind of blew my mind.
