Reunion - Chapter 55

My presence has been requested. It seems captain Sunshine is to take his long awaited retirement. He is a jolly sort, always telling tales of glory and battles long past. These tales mostly involve his ancestors instead of himself. He tells the tales well, though I must guess that it is his storytelling is aided by the flask of brandy that he is rarely seen without.

I do not mean to say that he is a drunkard but he often wets his lips before regaling anypony with a story. His cheeks would take warm glow that matched the twinkle in his eye. A twinkle that would always leave when his gaze found me.

He does not trust me. He has never treated me with anything less than courtesy and deference but there is steel in his gaze when he turns it on me. He alone regards me without fear or fawning obedience and for that he has my respect.
