Murder rates are near nonexistent. Even the largest cities have averaged less than one suspicious death per year for the last century. I am led to believe a vast majority of these are accidental or victims of circumstance. Many smaller towns and provinces have none to report for their entire existence. It is the same with nearly every serious crime. Police forces are as near nonexistent as crimes, having no real purpose to serve.
In the last thousand years it seems Celestia has succeeded in making Equestria into a utopia. War, violence, and crime are all things of the past. There is but one question: In this bright gleaming age sister made is there any place for me?

Not if Celestia keeps refusing to let Luna do anything.
Humm wonder how many of the ideas that Celestia used to create modern Equestia are actually Luna's ideas Celestia ignored 1000 years ago? Not realizing how smart her littler sister was until she lost her.
CELESTIA IS WORST PONI LUNA IS BEST PONI
Utopia is a dream Princess Luna, remenber that when you think the Equestria we live on today is one.
I call raging bullcrap. We've seen in at least two or three episodes that there are violent criminals perfectly willing to use murderous methods, clear up to actual death-traps.
3302430 here here!!
and discord was good for pony strength
by giving everyone an enemy and inhospitible conditions, they had to become stronger, adapt, and fight without rules
4773661 The only episodes (that I remember) where there seemed to be violence were Read It and Weep and Daring Don't. They didn't even show a death scene! There was quicksand, spiders, and crushing spike walls in the former, and piranha invested water in the latter.
This I disagree with:
Canterlot is built on top of a mountain; that makes commerce vastly more difficult and historically, the only real reasons from making a city on a mountain if for defense.
If this takes season 2 as cannon; there is a considerable Royal Guard, at least some of whom are armed with spears, when called upon.
Also I'll point out that for instance; in the series premeir, when they're in the Everfree Forest and see a manticore; 5/6 of the little ponies first response was 'fight it' showing they have aggressive tendencies, and the finale of season 2 when they fight the changelings would imply the mane six have combat training.
I know I've seen some more examples, but those are the main ones I can think of at the moment.
I think Celestia goes to great length to present Equestria as a utopia, but there are enough minor clues like this that I think it has an ugly underbelly.
