War of Shadows - Chapter 144

Everything must be a scandal with these nobles. It cannot be that my guard simply reports to me. No! It must be news of some sordid affair. They will not rest until they uncover enough gossip to occupy their next gathering.

They are closer to the truth than they know. Too close I fear for these ponies least of all can be trusted with it. A lie may placate them. Something to distract from the truth until I have Chrysalis’s head and secrecy no longer matters.

I’ve no skill in the machinations of court. Any deceit I put forward would be transparent at best. It irks my pride to ask for help but Celestia’s word will go unquestioned while mine will raise only suspicion.
