So Spike was sent to the insane asylum for being the only sane one? Neat. And knocking him out for wanting everypony to seek out real relationships? Also neat. Are we *sure* Discord didn't get lose? This is like anti version of a MLP episode, where instead of learning a lesson about seeking real companionship and love, it's better to indulge in fantasy. This is fantastic! Although I thought they were a little hard on Spike for sending him away, the ending was worth it. If there's ever a sequel, it's were the machine goes haywire or something. Unless that's a terrible idea, then forget it.

Derpy is so much internet slang that I can't even say it without choking, and ditzy is such a stupid word for a name, and that's not even going as far as to remind you that doo---yes doo, not due---is a word used for excrement.

In any case, the makers of the show went for *mental grind* Derpy *sigh* Which makes it official. Because you know, they made the show.

Neither is fine, neither is wrong, but one thing I am certain of: If you keep insulting people like you did here, one of these days someone is going to grow tired of your douchebaggery and is going to cut off your tongue and shove it up where the sun don't shine.

And here I thought this fandom was all about love and tolerance, what a freaking fiasco. This is a disgrace.

Shouldn't there be some tool to report this kind of crap to some moderator?

I'm not sure exactly what it is that your so bothered about. Also, i'm pretty sure that Derpy, as a name for the pony, originally came about solely because of the way her eyes were. That and it's possible to turn the strangest things into terms of endearment, I don't think anyone really considers it as insulting or intends it as such. The makers of the show did not just go for it, people pestered them about it because reversing the name change upset some fans of the show. I suspect that the outcry is because at some point one becomes attached to the name and characteristics of characters in a show and resents radical changes being made to them. A reversion to the original name leaves open the possibility of reverting the character concept as well.

I don't understand what "neither is fine" is supposed to mean, either. Not sure said person is intending to be particularly insulting either, even if I would prefer more sophisticated language in complaints. What exactly do you feel isn't love and tolerance and needs moderating?

A fandom is never ALL about anything, there are always outliers to varying degrees and to assume such suggests that you are being unrealistic. It would be, in my mind, far fairer to say that the fandom is considerably inclined to such as you noted (due to the demographic, I'm pretty sure it's a particular, non-average, kind of guy that is comfortable being a brony and being thought of as such. Especially if it goes non-trendy. Pardon me if I think that girls are less likely to be criticized about liking the show).

I do agree that a moderation tool would be good, but I'm not what would qualify for moderation by my standards since this site isn't really aiming at a PG rating so far as I can tell. I think that the reporter should have to justify their reason calmly and that anyone who rants in their message should be auto-ignored. The other thing is that asking for moderation is a kind of censorship that may not be the best thing and indirectly prevent people from directly communicating their thoughts to each other.

** Apologies for the huge post, everypony. :)  **

What in the sweet realm of Celestia did I just read.

Fourth Wall desimation, Sherlock, IRL fanfiction, carrot-into-donut innuendo with Fluttershy, ninjas out of nowhere, and Spike being locked up in an insane asylum for having an opinion and retelling his experiences.

I don't know why, but I'm getting the same feeling that I did when I read Cupcakes. Bravo for the moral, fantastic writing structure, and intruiging mystery, but seriously, what the hell man. That's a bit too out of character.

    Also fanfiction within fanfiction. :pinkiehappy:

Well done, though I'm disappointed nothing got resolved; was Spike actually punished for this? Your story, but I think an ending where they listen to Spike and proceed to resolve what they've done would have been a bit lighter, 'cause I still feel like punching something.

On 'The Last Round-Up', Rainbow Dash called her "Derpy".

"Ditzy" is just a fan-made nickname.

Derpy could be a nickname for Ditzy

Or Ditzy could be a nickname for Derpy, but Rainbow Dash just called her by "Derpy"....

And her last name "Whooves" and "Doo" are fan-made too.

Ditzy could be the real name, because for a parent to name their child "Derpy", would be pretty much a huge dick...

    Wow.

I'm really, really impressed. This isn't just satire about internet culture- that's common- this is really stinging, awesome satire of internet culture and it's dead on in a lot of ways.

Perhaps a little biting/Juvenalian.... but not completely inaccurate. You were able to make a point, but still be humorous. You have the running jokes: that Rainbow's a nympho, Spike's oblivious, stuff like that. Everything in here ir marvelously clever, and the only problems I found with it were minor grammatical things. Some of the polemical edge is taken off by the amusing end, which I think is good. Don't bite the hand that feeds too hard, after all... (HAMfiction. Clever.)

Except that derp is not a "real" word, but something said when one goofs up. Ditz, however, has a dictionary entry.

    From Wiktionary:

    ditz (plural ditzes)

    1. (informal) A scatterbrained person, especially a woman.

With Derpy being a blonde-maned mare I could easily see informed fans taking offense to the name Ditzy.

But it's a moot point because in 'The Last Roundup' episode her name is confirmed as Derpy. Not Ditzy Doo.

This, right here, is comedic genius. Just for satirizing the brony fandom as a whole. Very clever, and undeserving of its current low rating, which I hope the EqD featuring will rectify. In any case, I'll do my part, and award this story a well-earned 5 stars.

    Okay, time to reflect.

Why the unswerving conviction that people indulging a harmless fantasy are divorced from reality?

I've met these people IRL. Their "realism" is a thin veil for their own disgruntlement at other people having fun. If they weren't dedicated to feeling superior to the internet community they'd be out yanking beards off shopping mall santas, vandalizing Disneyland, and finding little kids playing tea party with their imaginary friends and stamping on their toys.

Having a vivid and rich fantasy life doesn't make you a loser. And it sure as hell doesn't make you sick, or crazy, or delusional. It's part of being a full and complete human being.  Our fantasies are how we feel out who we are, what we think (even about sex, though we would all thank you if you would not SHARE with the rest of us so readily, people), what we desire out of life, and it's also how we cope when life, from time to time, is a little less than satisfying than we'd hoped. Without imagination and fantasy we would never change what is, into what we desire; in fact we'd still be living in mud huts and grubbing for roots and bugs to eat.

Flat up, having no space in your life for fantasy makes you a bigger sad sack than any loser on the net.

A magician never reveals his tricks, of course, but GODDAMNIT, YOU WIN THE COOKIE.

An extreme of anything will destroy you - be it positive or negative. Eat too little, you become anorexic and starve to death; eat too much, you get to chill with the 1,000-lb man in the emergency room (assuming you don't die in a pile of wasted snack bags before the ambulance gets there). I love art... it is my life.

(I know, I know, you guys probably all thought my life was dedicated to dick jokes. Sorry to burst your bubbles, bronies.)

Because artistic expression and creation is my oxygen and life blood, I see fantasy as a necessity as much as having a level head is necessary. What I wanted to thoroughly demonstrate was how there is a growing fringe of our obscure little subculture teetering on the brink of fantasy addiction, which actually will land you in an asylum. Drug junkies get rehab centers, fantasy addicts get mental hospitalizations. Just because it isn't in the same ballpark as cocaine doesn't mean it isn't the same kind of addictive sports arena. You can get an addiction to anything. And addiction is BAD, no matter what form it takes - even if it's something as nice and sweet as ponies. People are only going to realize that addiction exists in all forms - and can EFF YOU UP in all forms - until someone gets hospitalized, passes away, loses touch with society, or develops a psychological disorder.

And the Mane Six would never, ever want that for you.

So, yes, enjoy the show, love the characters, go ahead and craft a special place for them in your hearts and minds - but do not let them take your entire heart and brain. Go outside; enjoy company; meet some girls; see some boobies; read a book that doesn't feature anthropomorphism at all; listen to music that isn't just based on a television show.

Why limit yourselves? After all... Twilight Sparkle's first friendship lesson involved discovering she couldn't just be one thing.

I feel art needs to speak for itself, which is why it kind of pained me to write this, but I felt compelled to provide a true explanation for my writing of "The Library Club."

Congratulations, sir. You earn the Inky Seal of Intelligence.

I do believe I just finished reading one of the most brilliant and relevant works of fanfiction I've ever come across. Loved how it was wrapped up with Spike-abuse. It was harsh, but funny, that Spike's closest friends were perfectly okay with neglecting him, hurting him, betraying him, and locking him up in an asylum where nopony will accept a word he says just so they can enjoy their fantasy. Actually, I find it ironically fitting that they're in their own little asylum. One Twilight built for them. If you ever brainstorm up an equally insightful satire for a sequel that gets him outta there to confront those bitch ponies, do please write it.

...i know this is satire on bronies but still i cant help but feel sorry for spike. The only thing he did wrong was prove everyone wrong in the story. Still as a brony i can say that their some problems with this fan base (mostly yuri shippings) but most of the problems are in most fandoms. Hell the story could of used spikes gem obsession as a counter point, that and combinded with his young age shown how every fandom is messed up. :moustache:

ps how long is everyone going to obsess over lyra being a human wannabe, that and i bet her books are the pony universes version of twilight (not the pony, you know which one):trixieshiftleft:

Ok, Ditzy doo is an unidentified pony from the Winter Wrap up episode and Derpy Hooves, or Whooves, was named in the Last Roundup.  There is still controversy about the real name since Hasbro removed the name from the episode and no-pony was shown as Ditzy Doo.  So the real name is up for grabs and there's no real reason to argue over it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and view on things.

Besides, this whole show is about understanding and accepting others for who they are and not what you think they should be.  I personally liked the story but not exactly a usual subject matter I enjoy reading.  I did kinda hate the ending where Spike was committed but its the authors story and it was his choice.

Also Doo Doo is another word for poo and what not but 'Doo' is the Scottish word for Doves and Pigeons.  Ditsy also stands for eccentric or scatterbrained, so Ditsy Doo could actually mean Scatterbrained Dove, or if you want to be nicer it could mean Eccentric Dove.

    >>216086 Yeah that kinda summed it for me, I would've liked it a lot more if the thread connecting all of it seemed to be spike abuse. Maybe just due to the fact I find character abuse to be a bit of a weak thread usually.

Still cute story and I do like the author so don't take it as hate speech just an opinion.

"Then again, he didn’t understand why Twilight would attempt to smuggle a suitcase under her mane whenever she went to the bathroom to take her nightly bath. Spike had often heard crying noises coming from behind the door and had rushed over to investigate, only to be told in a panicked voice, “Don’t worry – it’s just the pipes! They squeak, that’s all! Go play, now, Spike!”

I literally stop reading here to say this; Epic just epic you made my day!!!

ok now that i finished reading (had a lot of on and off in between), I liked the satire in this, now I loved it!

But I'm tripping over the fact spike got hit in the head and ended up in a asylum, showing not only how he was betrayed but even abused by his friends. there's a lot of others stuff but it has all already been said.... I kinda would like to see a sequel where gets revenge by some how escaping and destroying what they all seem to cherish so dearly even if it means taking him out of his character a bit.

I love this.  A critical satire of the brony community.  One of the greatest pieces of it's kind!  There are a few issues I noticed though.

One thing is Twilight's reaction to the idea of humans.  "They were so, so much better than ponies, Spike!"  Yeah-no!  I'm sorry I just don't see how that makes any sense.

So why did he end up in the nuthouse, I'm so confused.  If you ask me, he's completely in the right.  Spike's logic is infallible.

Twilight's human love is just another brony/pony parallel. Another satiric bite.

As for being thrown into the asylum? Well, he told ponies the kind of thing they didn't want to hear--the truth. Therefore, "LOL GTFO." :rainbowlaugh:

I get that, but considering a human wrote this story, it seems a bit self-indulgent.

    This is literary art.

The look into our subculture, as well as the message that applies to any hobby, came across very well.

Why can I only fav and thumb-up? This deserves moar!

Ok so im this story twilight and her friends are fucking sluts?.

This is way out of character to be honest, twilight betraying her friend for sex? Rainbow dash letting people down, Applejack lying to her family, fluttershy forgeting about the animals that she takes care.

Intresting idea but eveyone is so out of character.
