Group Announcement Bar BeauZoe: The May Contest Thread is HERE. Squee!
BeauZoe: Everyone who's requests for grading went unanswered in the old grading room, We are sorry. Please re-post your requests in the new one.
Tired of getting your hard work trampled on? More dislikes and hate messages than anything else on your latest story? Or are you simply looking for ways to improve your writing? Well, fret no more! If you are a new writer in search of guidance and direction, then this is the group for you.
Writers of every skill level are welcome, but you'll find that our lectures are geared towards those who are just starting out and who wish to improve upon their own technique.
1. Just like in any public school, shenanigans are to be expected... to a certain extent. Please keep the threads clean of trolling comments which do nothing but take up space, and no outright internet fights. Otherwise, feel free to roam and use colorful expressions. We are a fairly relaxed group.
2. We frown upon the concept of trollfics.
3. Stories may only be posted in the Stories folder. This is due to the fact that stories look cluttered and untidy on the front page.
4. All rules not stated here can be found in the Rules, Guidelines, and Rubrics thread. Read them carefully, since they cover everything from thread posting and receiving reviews to contest rules.
5. If you have a question, do not be afraid to ask a Professor or an Admin in a PM or through a comment below.
Important Threads Rules, Guidelines, and Rubrics ~ Go here for a more in depth look at the inner workings of SFNW, because it makes our job easier if you know the rules.School Directory ~ Our forum contains over 90 different threads. That makes this thread incredibly useful. It will usually get updated within the day.The Grading Room ~ This is where you go if you want your story to be reviewed and given a grade/feedback. It's rules are in the rules thread.Requests for Lectures and Assistance ~ This is were Students can request a lecture. It is also a catch all for the "I need help making my story!" posts.

If you are in need of an editor/proofreader or two, this group is the place to go. They have an extensive list of proofreaders willing to help with your story, and you get to pick and choose editors to PM based on a whole bunch of relevant information. Make sure to read their policies though.

This group is the principle group to go to when a writer needs an artist, or when an artist needs an outlet. If you'd like your story to have some cover art, you might have some luck asking one of the available artists here if you aren't artistic yourself.
o( ^-^o)
The giving and receiving of story reviews, by authors and for authors, is the primary purpose of this group. A great way to get more favs/likes, go here if you want to promote your story and receive feedback. Be prepared to give a few reviews yourself though.
(o^-^ )o
Would you like your story to have a second chance at the lime light? In this group they ASK you to shamelessly promote your story, by adding it to one of their many folders. They have monthly group contests, and an extensive forum for you to use and peruse.

Created by Wanderer D, one of Fimfiction's admins, this group is focused on... you guessed it. World Building. Its forum is filled with interesting and inspirational material. Go here if you want ideas about the world outside the nation of Equestria, or the niggling details like "magic" or "politics".

The easy (yet hard) solution is to add more of everything. Another way to put it is to add some purple prose (I can't believe I'm suggesting this.)
Give your characters thoughts more description. More exposition of setting. More dialogue. It's a case of being easier to say than to do, though.
The key is to find a balance, one which fluctuates as the story demands. I hope that is a little helpful.
There might be other solutions as well. If someone else has one feel free to add it to the list.
Any tips on how to slow my pace down on my writing. I've noted one of my flaws is that I rush everything rather than take my time. So, how can I pace my writing?
>>308720 it's there
>>308679 Ooh,
, a bad vibe from Regidar right off the bat. That's a bad sign. Let's repost the link to this in the Grading Room, and I'll take a look at it. (Don't want to clutter up the front page, now do we?)
Um I have a fic that I really want some feed back http://www.fimfiction.net/story/99503/escalation
Hmm hmm hmm. This group's jib exhibits an alluring cut. I kinda wish I had delved into groups before beginning to post but what's done is -- well, not done, per se, but that's unimportant.
Anyhoo, in avoidance of becoming a one trick p less than practiced writer I think I'll try flopping the one shot I'm concocting in here when I get the first draft done. Hopefully I'll get some pointers to help smelt my verbal drivel into something more appealing.

Well, If you feel like it you can add something yourself to our growing forum. The rules for posting are currently in the Rules, Guidelines, and Rubrics thread. You can also request a lecture here. We've got a few activities which can be helpful as ways to improve and get advice. The Grading Room works as a place to have your story get reviewed. That's it for now, but we will of course steadily grow larger as time goes on, and new threads and lectures are added. If you check in occasionally we will hopefully have new things to look at.
The SFNW is more like a resource which can be accessed for knowledge and assistance rather than a group which is "active"
Soon as I get around to updating it's rules and ironing out details and stuff, we might start having Contests every two months, but that's a ways off in the future.
Hello, I am new. What do I do exactly when I finish reading everything?
Cool. I just need your email so I can send it to you.
>>305809 We tend to prefer gdocs, but what the hell, let's give it a shot.
>>305790Cool. It's an XPS file, is that alright?
>>305729 I can help you with that.
I'm just looking for someone who can look over these story notes and idea's I have and tell me if it makes sense enough to pass by as an actual story. Before I go posting it I want to make sure I'm at least on the right path. It shouldn't take no more than 10 minutes really, so if you could help me out with that that'd be great.
Important Notice
Hello All!
Resident Professor BeauZoe here... I am here to inform anyone who cares that there is a new experimental thread available for anyone needing help with their stories. Side by side with the grading room, this new thread is meant as a catch all for general "I need help with mah story
" posts. If you would like to request that a lecture be done, this is also the place to go. If you want feedback for your story, or reviews, go to the grading room. But if you can't understand why this certain section looks like crap, can't decide how to continue a scene, or don't know where to go in your story, Go to the Requests for Lectures and Assistance thread.
Here's the link if you need it.
Well I'm retrying and hoping its approved.
I hope some feedback will help I've been lacking motivation to write anything lately.
O.M.G So much stuff to read and take in
what am i getting myself into?
Well this will be helpful....I'm new to writing, and I was wondering how I was gonna fill up those empty pages.
