The creatures who called themselves "humans" had invaded Equestria, taken Luna and Twilight as prisoners, and used their powerful weapons to strip Celestia of her magic and wings. They gave the sun princess the decision to either willingly give up her body to them in the name of science, or be forced to give it up.

There was simply no other way.

Starship Magic has been destroyed, and Captain Sparkle is missing in Equestrian space. Co-Captains Celestia and Luna of the Starship Harmony must find her with help from the other five Starship Captains of the galaxy: Captain Dash with Starship Loyalty, Captain Pie with Starship Laughter, Captain Rarity with Starship Generosity, Captain Jacklyn with Starship Honesty, and Captain Flutter with Starship Kindness.

As they travel across space, they discover a new threat to their friend, and possibly the whole galaxy.

Daring Do has always been an amazing treasure hunter and archeologist, and when Princess Celestia asks her to find and recover the ever-mysterious Alicorn Amulet, Daring gladly accepts. But when she is blackmailed into helping an ancient evil recover the amulet instead, death and mayhem follow her at every turn, and she must make a choice between her own life and the preservation of Equestria.

When Doctor Whooves is invited to the Gala to speak, he invites Derpy to come along, who in turn invites all of her best friends, Lyra, Carrot Top, Vinyl Scratch, and Octavia. Stone angels, human-obsessed ponies, and giant carrots soon make it a night to remember.

When filly Twilight asks Celestia to tell her a bedtime story, the Princess is not prepared for the many memories that float to the surface once she is asked this. She mainly remembers a small filly just like Twilight, who also asked for bedtime stories many years ago.

The day of the next Solar Eclipse is fast approaching. It occurs when the moon passes over the sun, sending the world into total darkness for a short time. Princess Celestia is worried about what will happen on this fateful day, because before Nightmare Moon was defeated, she put a curse on the sun and moon, so that the princess's magic could not interfere with the eclipse. Why did Nightmare Moon set this dreadful curse? It has no purpose... at least, that's what it seems. Celestia fears for the safety of her sister Luna.
