Rarity has always believed that there exists a prince for every princess. And she's not wrong about that. She's just not right for quite the exact reasons she thinks she is.
What happens when you realize that your feelings for one of your friends aren't quite the same as your feelings for the rest of them? Do you just prefer some friends for others, or is it a sign of something deeper? What do you do with those feelings? Hide them? Admit them? And how will the rest of your friends react when they find out?
Twilight is going to have to do her best to find the answers, because they're anything but obvious.
------
Yes, this is a story about romance, but I'm trying to use it to explore the relationships between the characters and see how they'd really react if romantic feelings ever did crop up, and how such a development would impact the cast as a whole. This isn't a cutesy fluff story, despite what the cover image might look like. :p
Now with a TvTropes page!
Looking back, it should have been obvious. It wasn't at the time of course and they knew that, but it was now. All those brief moments they spent together, the close encounters, it was like they were dancing around the subject.
And it all began with something so very small.
Set during season two.
Story eight in my Twidash Challenge: Song Fic

Twilight Sparkle has been a student, personal protege, and friend of Princess Celestia for many years. However, when the Princess appoints her to be the new Grand Magus of the Equestrian Royal Court, everything changes. Celestia becomes reluctant and unwilling to teach Twilight anything more advanced than what is absolutely necessary to perform her new duties.
What is Celestia hiding? What is the Princess protecting?
Celestia's attempt to withhold knowledge from Twilight tragically backfires, pushing the student to learn everything she can of magic, the workings of the world, and the Princess's secrets. No matter the cost, no matter how forbidden these areas of study are, Twilight is determined to learn the truth.
Twilight is taking the first steps of a journey that once started, cannot be taken back.
Author's notes:
* Now as seen on Equestria Daily!
* If you're looking for a gorefic a la AskResearcherTwilight, this is not it. This story is inspired by (but not associated with) kvernikovskiy's Tumblr blog "Ask Researcher Twilight" (and yes, I did recieve permission from him before writing this mess). While my story may share a few scenes with the Tumblr blog, it's going to have a very very different plot-line.
* Special thanks to my editing/prereading team: coandco (proofreader), Azu (prereader/story editor), Hydkore (prereader), and shadowsreached (prereader/editor)... and all the others that happen to fall into my icky editing documents from time to time.
* Constructive criticism and ego stroking are both welcomed with open arms.
Twilight Sparkle moves to Ponyville and begins learning the friendship is magic, little did she know she would also start learning the meaning of love. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie pie struggle with keeping their relationship a secret, and of being the, to their knowledge, only same-sex couple in Ponyville.
First Chapter will include things directly from the show as well as original, everything after Chapter 1 will be original, Will take place around the canon events of the show, with things from the episode being mentioned but happening before and after them. Some things are changed around though, such as Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash knowing each other before Twilight moves to Ponyville.
Twilight Sparkle has invited one of her friends for a night of stargazing.
Clearly, her friend has different plans for the night...

One of the few collabs I've started with Dimondium. Go look at his fics, they're awesome.
The lyrics that Twilight sings are from the song 'A Long Way From Equestria' by MandoPony and AcousticBrony. I do not take credit for them, and you should go listen to the song, which can be found here.
It's your three month anniversary, Rainbow Dash! So what are you running from?
