Should you form attachments to mortals if you yourself will never die?

Losing the last of her friends in a battle that should never have been fought, Twilight Sparkle's world falls apart, until meaning and purpose come back into her life in the most wonderful way imaginable. But she forgets, again, that every living creature must eventually die...

Sequel to Not My Destiny, which you can read here. PG-13 for some mild psychological horror and plot-relevant, non-gratuitous injuries. I'll try to keep to the same chapter-a-day release schedule as I did back over New Year's.

Twilight discovers Discord in-hiding - which is strange enough - but the discussion they have causes her to consider the particulars of true harmony, and whether or not a being such as he should be allowed to live freely to retain his part in it.

Slightly shippy and possibly angsty. Putting it under 'sad' because there's no 'hurt/comfort'.

Princess Luna's Lunar Stallions kidnap Twilight Sparkle when they see how lonely Luna is, and give her to the Princess as a gift. Nightmare Moon emerges from Princess Luna's psyche during the sleepover. The dark goddess would love nothing more than to have the beautiful mare all to herself, and the resulting chaos forces Celestia to call a psychologist to sort out Luna's multiple personalities.

Twilight becomes alicorn of the stars.  This is sort of a problem, because Luna kind of already was alicorn of the stars.  Oops!

A different take on alicorn ascension. Sixteen years after arriving in Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle is excited to have invented a brand-new kind of spell, but it will come with consequences she cannot possibly anticipate. Meanwhile, threats in shadows around the world conspire to overthrow the Solar Throne. With her world turned upside down, she will have to come to terms with the role that fate has dealt her while straining to keep Celestia in power.

(Note: This story was started before any season three information was available. All episodes in season three and later are non-canon for this story. In addition, the promotional map released close to the beginning of season three was also not available and is not compatible with this story. While the OC tag is active because there are OCs in the story, they're really just supporting characters. The focus is on Twilight.)

One morning, Twilight unexpectedly finds herself with two feathery wings attached to her back, with no explanation for their sudden appearance. While trying to avoid detection, she tries to figure out what has happened to her, but as more and more things in her life change without warning, she realizes that her days of normalcy are numbered. Difficult tasks await her, from figuring out what to do with herself and how to deal with her friends, to facing new challenges and trying to convince everypony that she’s still the same mare she was before. As much as she tries to keep everything the same, most of the things happening to her are out of her control, and she may not be able to handle the never-ending cascade of new responsibilities, and new expectations...

“...some ponies just aren’t cut out to handle the responsibility.” -Twilight Sparkle

    'Normal...

What does it mean to be Normal? According to the dictionary, Normal is conforming to a standard; the usual, typical, or expected. It's almost scary really. That such a simple word can define the lives of so many. Day in and day out we toil in the machinations of society in an effort to maintain the status quo handed down from the generation that preceded us, all in the name of this Normal. What price would you pay for your Normal? Would you give up all your bits? Your home? Your friends? What if I told you that the 'Normal' you ponies cherish so much came at the cost of everything I hold dear?

My name is Twilight Sparkle, and I am not Normal...'

But then, you'd be mad too, if your stupid brother got drunk and told you that you were adopted...

Celestia leaves to deal with a foreign crisis, giving her sister a chance to rule alone and become more attached to the modern world. She calls on Twilight Sparkle to advise Luna, hoping her student will be able to draw Luna out of her shell. With two major threats to Equestria already defeated in the past year, it seems like the perfect time to let Luna gain some confidence and experience in the modern world. After all, what are the chances of a third disaster occurring?

Inspired by Friendship with Benefits is Magic. Not intended as a direct followup as much as my own take on the idea.  What is Celestia to do when Twilight Sparkle shares a little too much?  And why doesn't Twilight have any idea what she's talking about?  And why is Luna smiling so much!?

Followed up by yet another epistolary conversation between Twilight and Celestia about the magic of not knowing what the hay that other pony is talking about.  Features a special guest appearance by naughty!Luna.

    Further bulletins as events warrant.
