During a blissfully rare calm in the hectic storm of Ponyville life, a disturbance in the Everfree Forest goes undetected. After receiving a summons from the Princess, Twilight and her friends are led into a curious task, one that they find themselves ill-prepared to handle - managing their stallion double! As each of the girls meets their very own carbon-copy-colt, they learn that dealing with themselves can be much more frustrating than they first thought.

I bought a lava lamp at a garage sale.  It had a genie in it.  I wished to go to Equestria.  I forgot that genies are all "tricky" and stuff.

Pinkie Pie throws excellent parties. This is a fact of life, like Fluttershy being rather demure, or Rarity having a sense of style. But the fact is, Pinkie's parties cost bits, and her job at the bakery isn't supporting her passions anymore. So she dusts off her degree and opens a side business...

Gilda isn't very happy.

Then Pinkie Pie shows up - and with Gilda's unwitting help, they promptly find themselves in a very hostile place, surrounded by very hostile people.

Yes, I am perfectly aware that things going at escape velocity in the atmosphere reach nose speeds of thousands of degrees. Indeed, I am perfectly aware that living things do not generally survive crashing into solid metal at escape velocity. Why, of course I know that ramjets do not work outside of the atmosphere.

I am furthermore perfectly aware that ponies do not speak, nor do they construct machinery, nor do they tend to survive having anvils dropped on them.

Some accidents are small, and some endow you with the power of a godly ruler. On the opposite end of things, you lose your wings and your ability to move celestial bodies and you can't tell anypony, because what would they think? It's OK. Twilestia just needs to get to Canterlot and switch back with Tiasparkle before revealing their identities. But why not have some fun along the way?
