Being jazz performers, they can't fully embrace or comprehend the newborn music genre. But now that their teenage daughter claims to be part of the new subculture, how will they deal with the inevitable generation gap? With the help of their neighbours Lyra and Bon-Bon they need to help their foal overcome the problems that always come side-by-side with growing up, and maybe... learn something new in process?

This is a sequel to The Snow on Her Cheek and takes place several years after the events of the story.

A changeling who has lived at the side of an Equestrian mare for most of his life finds himself in the middle of the changeling invasion of Canterlot. He has no idea who the invading queen or hive are, and just wants to stay where he is, and more importantly, who he is. The spell that ends the invasion doesn't discriminate, though. With his old pony form irreversibly stripped away, and the whole kingdom out to hunt his kind, he tries to keep his family together, and struggles to find his place in the world.

Derpy recognizes her mental flaws and attempts to to try and repair her mind. In doing so, her mind rapidly expands and her IQ almost doubles, and her hormones and emotions hit the accelerator. She begins to feel emotions in which she's never felt, sadness, sorrow, depression. But then she also begins to feel sympathy, affection, and love.

Derpy's sudden turn in mental capacity, from klutz to borderline genius have some unnerving affects on the residents of Ponyville. And Derpy tries to satisfy her new emotional endeavors, but encounters hate. Derpy's dream is no longer to be smart, but to love and be loved. But when the entire towns against her, her dream will require a knew kind of effort and dedication. Will Derpy have her dream come true, will she have a lover, and if so, how will she be able to maintain a relationship, when she only just experiences these new found emotions.
