It's been two months since Twilight and Big Macintosh started dating, and what a wonderful two months it's been. As their relationship blooms, Twilight finds out through Applejack that not all of the Apple family may be keen on a relationship that includes one of their own kin, and a unicorn. Worried about their future together, Twilight asks Big Macintosh for the biggest favor she can think of...to visit his entire family, and see if they can't break old traditions.

This is the sequel to Sparkling Cider, my first fan-fiction. It isn't necessary to have read Sparkling Cider to understand Old Traditions, but it certainly wouldn't hurt!

After the War of the Ring and the return of peace to Middle-earth, Gandalf the White departs for Equestria to pay a visit to two old friends of his; specifically, two old alicorn friends of his.

What he does not foresee is that Equestria, like its populace, has changed vastly since his previous visit, and as a result he is quite unprepared for what lies ahead. Can the old wizard endure the trials that this new journey will bring to him? Surely, but only if he makes a few more friends along the way.

Six of them, to be exact.

Written with a heavily Tolkien-influenced style, which is pre-read and edited by thefluffyone and Shadow Fyre, who are both absolute lifesavers. Countless thanks for your help, men!

Princess Cadance noticed how lonely Princess Celestia seemed on Hearts and Hooves Day.

She decided to send a small love spell her way, as motivation to help her find a special somepony, even if it's just for a day.

Cadance immediately regretted it upon finding out who it was.

Something I just couldn't get off my mind until I wrote it down. Be warned: the ponies in these battles really go off on each other. Almost exactly like it is in "Epic Rap Battles of History", except with less cursing. There's plenty of verbal bashing, though.

Vinyl Scratch is the DJ for most of these battles, and will be doing the all-caps commentary (except for the ones she's in, of course). OC tag because of slight self-insert.

As Rarity and Spike search for some more jewels for one of the fashionista's FABULOUS dresses, Spike comes across a particular jewel that sends him and Rarity to another version of Equestria.

In this world, two tyrants that came from yet another, have conquered most of the planet, and their armies of demons and monsters ensure that any land taken from eachother is shared through blood and death. While one, calling himself the "Crimson Pioneer",  kills his soldiers for the smallest error or sign of betrayal, he frees his prisoners immediately after they have given him what he wants. Rarely has he ever killed an innocent. His troops, however, are less lenient.

The second, called the "Pumpkin Lord" for his head in the shape of a flaming pumpkin, is more lenient towards his soldiers, but merciless against his prisoners. Those captured by him are never seen again. Rumors have it that he turns them into demons for his army.

This has lasted for five-hundred years, but, the two alicorn princesses are nowhere to be seen...somewhat. However, Spike and Rarity don't end up in that scenario right away. No. Rather, they end up in tunnels underneath the whole events of the world, and Rarity will discover something that could change the events that have lasted for over five centuries.

When facing Twilight Sparkle, Nightmare Moon was given a choice: redemption or revenge.  What if she had chosen the latter?  A grim fate awaits Equestria, but in a time of greater strife and conflict, Discord's return is accelerated. While he expected to bring chaos, he did not anticipate that he would end the Longest Night and bring hope and joy back to the land.

Discord struggles to reconcile his nature with his desire for admiration.  While Twilight's friends strive to carve a new life in the ever-shifting Equestria, she searches for Celestia, the only one who can bring harmony back to her lands.  But Nightmare Moon also seeks her sister in a desperate attempt to find her place in the world.  New dangers lurk in the wild and more threaten to fall over Equestria.  Nightmare Moon's decision broke the balance of the world.  Will Equestria ever turn to peace, or will the spiral of chaos and destruction be the end of everything?

(An alternate history, this story takes the universe established by the canon and explores one possible outcome if Princess Luna had not been redeemed.)
