A My Little Avengers side story. Reading the main story beforehand is recommended, but not completely necessary.

The unkillable mercenary and assassin known as Deadpool has earned a reputation amongst authories and potential employers as a flagrant and volatile sociopath with no understanding of the word "subtle".

"And I worked hard for it!"

But his unique personality is not something that be summed up so easily. And now that he is after one of the Avenger's closest allies, they will have to deal with the real thing. But it seems he is not the only one out for their blood today! But with both of them out for vengence, could it be that they are not the true villains here? Is there a murderer living within the Avengers Mansion, or is someone else behind the curtain?

"Read the stupid fic and you might find out!"

“When there is nothing left to do; you must set yourself on fire.”

Nopony quite knows what possessed Starswirl the Bearded to utter this odd phrase. Some theorise that it was merely a euphemism or a riddle, and means everypony has a purpose; and that if you don’t have purpose you may as well be dead. Others think it has something to do with boredom; that if you are bored you need to put in some effort to mix things up and be ‘not-bored.’

For Private Mercury of the Earth-Pony Shields Regiment and her friends – Privates Brute Force and Steel Block – this phrase always means the latter. Because what else is there for an earth-pony shield-bearer to do in times of peace other than to guard the palace? And guard duty often comes with boredom.

What better way to fight boredom than setting stuff on fire?

    *WARNING! CONTAINS DESCRIPTIONS OF GORE.*

The third world war engulfed the world in a nuclear holocaust. Very few survived, and those that did only cared about their survival. The remains of the U.S. military resurfaced and restored order to the American wasteland. While rebuilding their shattered world, the ponies appeared from their destroyed dimension. The two races met and formed a peaceful relationship based on cooperation. Peace and prosperity came as the two species worked together to restore order and purify the planet.

However, not all ponies viewed the humans as valuable partners. Celestia saw them as an evil, warmongering blight on this world. They had destroyed their world and almost themselves. She reasoned that true peace was impossible, as the human lust for war could not be suppressed forever. Setting her plans into motion, she declared war and launched a human genocide. The vastly outnumbered American people and military made what may be mankind’s final stand.

The war was long and bloody. The ponies had numbers and magic on their side. While humans had their technology. The humans fought conventionally, being hesitant to unleash nuclear weapons on the world again. They resolved to only use them if certain defeat was inevitable, but for now they held against the tide of pony soldiers. Technology being the great equalizer and helping them stave off the ponies. Undeterred even with the monstrously high casualties, Celestia pressed for the destruction of humanity and declared, “This war cannot last forever!”
