“Princess Luna we need to get you to safety, hurry there’s no time!” shouted Shining Armor over the blazing fire. Canterlot was a warzone, the rebels came in the middle of the night and struck fast, many guards were killed before they knew what was happening. Suddenly part of the roof came in crushing several of the guards behind Shining and maiming them “That’s it were leaving now princess, follow me!” with that Shining ran out of the room with the few surviving guards escorting Princess Luna to escape route hidden in the dungeon “what has happened to my sister?” Luna panted as the group ran down the stone stairway
“she refused to leave the other ponies and ordered her guardsmen to help escort as many of them to safety as possible, we can only hope she is ok” replied Shining as they rounded the last flight of the stairs into the dungeon “quickly Luna this way” Shining Armor said as he pulled a chain exposing a second route once hidden by a stone wall, just as the wall lowered several unicorns jumped out of the shadows, letting off bolts of pure magic burning a hole in three of the six remaining guardsmen “protect the princess at all cost” exclaimed Shining who retaliated by setting up a magical barrier that was already starting to fade from the constant barrage of magic attacks “run Luna head to Ponyville and warn them of the rebellion, hurry while we hold these bastards off!” Quickly Luna turned and ran into the dark passageway. Moments after she trotted through the stone fell back into place; she gave only a quick look and trotted off into the darkness. Being princess of the night she could see exceptionally well in darkness and needed little magic to assist her in her voyage. “I hope sisters ok, sometimes she’s too headstrong for her own good I would rather lose Canterlot than Tia, I need to hurry and warn Ponyville before they fall to the same fate as Canterlot, but I cannot imagine what rebels would want with such a small town as that.” With a thousand thought rushing through her head she made her way through the narrow tunnel only to fine multiple paths ahead of her “oh great just what I need at a time like this, if only Shining had stayed with me, he would know which way to go.” Though Princess Luna aloud “but if he did then we would of probably been found by now, Pony feathers what else could go wrong” screamed Luna angrily, tears streaming through her eyes. Spontaneously the earth above her shook, it was as if the castle itself had just collapsed “I need to hurry before somepony finds me down here” quickly Luna ran to the path on her left and hoped for the best. Luck decided to assist the young princess this time as she quickly found herself with only a sewer grate between her and fresh air “nothing a little magic can’t fix” though Luna as she mustered her energy into quietly moving the grate and hopping down into the long grass below and landing next to a beautiful waterfall, when Luna turned she saw to her horror Canterlot near ruins, that earth shaking crash was part of the castles towers plummeting off the side of the mountain down onto the grassy knolls below. Most of the castle was still standing but the larger towers were either ablaze or in ruins “oh Celestia will we ever regain from this” muttered Luna quietly as she assessed the area around her, she the waterfall and lake well from her childhood when she used to swim “looks like I could fly from here on out” readying her wings she took off as quietly as she could surveying the carnage below her the dead had been burned or just exploded from magical bolts from pegasies some bodies were so cut from blades so badly she could hardly tell who they were, which was probably for the better. She had not seen this much death in centuries and that was long before the first time discord appeared for he was marked as a staple in the pony history books as the only creature to obtain anarchy through means other than death and ignoring plagues and accidents most ponies died of old age due to the fact that crime was relatively low and that crime was mostly petty things like theft or tax evasion and not murder or rape. “How could we not be prepared for such a thing sister” Luna thought to herself when suddenly a magical blast grazed her wing, burning most of the feathers and the flesh below. The last thing Luna remembered was falling to the ground and slowing into a magical field that dampened her blow before she fell unconscious.
Luna snapped awake and tried to move only to find her bound by rope “wha...what’s going on do...don’t you know who I am?” mumbles the dazed Princess to several ponies with their backs turned to her. At that the figure in the middle turned to her, he was a deep steel color and had a voice like a razor. “Of course we know who you are the greeaaatt princess Luna running from a battle” the colts words burned like acid “you should of stayed with your guards then you would of died quickly like them, at that remark Luna leaned forward “if you hurt Shining then you’re dead!” exclaimed Luna with a surge of adrenalin
“I don’t know what fate happened to your troops you stupid girl! Me and my team we put here to kill anyone trying to escape. We didn’t expect to find one of the sisters themselves but now that we did we can have some fun” said the rebel leader as he brushed his tail against Luna as he walked in a circle around her.
“Celestia damn you!” exclaimed Luna as she tried to burn him alive with her magic
“You are a stupid girl aren’t you, we put a magic displacement ring on you, cant you feel it feeding on your magic?” In truth Luna could feel it eating away any magic she cast out
“C’mon boss stop toying aren’t we going to kill her now?” asked a light blue mare who hoped that his boss would hurry up and do his job
“Shut up or I swear to Discord I will kill you as well!” screamed the steel mare as he kicked the questioner in the face with his hoof breaking the poor colt’s nose. At that Luna had enough torment and tried as hard as she could to break the rope around her “poor princes, im sorry but I have very specific orders to make sure you suffahhh!” screamed the leader as a dark bolt hit him in the side of the face instantly incinerating it from cheek to cheek leaving only a charred stump where his head would be, the other rebels suddenly backed up scanning the sky for there unknown assailant were. When out of a tree flew three dark masses moving too fast to identify but agile enough to fire several bolts at the rebels killing most and sending the few survivors scurrying to get reinforcements from the now dead Canterlot.
The dark masses landed in front of Luna who was scurrying to get away “Princess Luna do not be alarmed it is us your guardians” quietly spoke the largest of the group, he was a night colored colt who nearly doubled the little Princess in size. Even through the trauma of the night Luna recognized the head of her guard Midnight Shadow from her childhood.
“Midnight I can’t believe your alive. What happened to Canterlot and Celestia, who are the rebels, why are they killing so many?” barraged Luna as her royal guards untied her and got off the magic inhibitor ring
“Please princess there will be time for all of your questions but please wait until we get away from this damned place and start on our way to Ponyville” pleaded Midnight Shadow as they started their flight to Ponyville.
The multi pony crew flew towards Ponyville as quickly as they could, but there pace was faltered due to the fact that Princess Luna’s charred wing was still healing and even alicorn magic needed time to work effectively. “Damn those rebels for harming a princess, if it were not for Midnight Shadow and Shining, I would have been killed….or worse” said Luna to herself.
“What was that your highness, did you say something?” asked Midnight shadow, the dark colored colt who saved her from rebels and was currently carrying Luna as they flew to Ponyville
“Oh I was just thinking aloud” replied the bothered princess “how much longer until we arrive at Ponyville, I fear to think of what fate may have become everypony if we do not hurry”.
“Do not worry my lady, we shall arrive shortly, and I do not think the town is in immediate danger” encouraged Midnight Shadow. After a few minutes of flying in the cool air, Canterlot was only a faint smoke line in the distance outlined by the slowly rising sun
“Few ponies know that Celestials’ ability to raise the sun is little more than good timing and some showmareship, the sun and moon move on their own accord and only sometimes to we nudge them to get a desired affect” mused Luna to her guards, the lunar guards looked slightly less worried at that news, fearing that eternal night would return if Celestia was killed or incapacitated.
By the time the sun had rose to morning Luna and her guards had made it close enough to Ponyville to see that the quaint town was still standing and apparently going about business as usual for the little ponies, the shops were open and the town seemed as peaceful as usual, ignoring the commotion over the late train from Canterlot, that was most likely destroyed. By the time the company had landed they drew quite a crowd, as it was not every day that a royal princess appears, especially one that looked so beaten. “I need to speak to Twilight sparkle and the mayor in private…immediately!” declared Luna using the royal Canterlot voice. Most ponies that were not used to such voice ran off immediately to find Twilight and the mayor, a few brave ponies and colts decided to stay and see what has happened to their illustrious nighttime princess
“What happened, does it have anything to do with that smoke, what about the train! Why is it so late?” asked a mob of colorful ponies “oh my Celestia look at her wing!”
“SILENCE THO HAS NO WISHES BUT SPEAK TO TWILIGHT SPARKLE!” Luna demanded frustrated from the events of the day; at the severity of her voice the ponies all scrambled to go back to their normal duties of the day, even the exhausted Lunar Guards jumped at the sudden raise of voice from the shy princess.
The wait for Twilight sparkle was a short one as she galloped up to the wounded alicorn “Princess I ran as fast I could, what happened? It has to be bad if you’re in Ponyville. Do you need the elements of harmony? Where Celestia is she ok? Oh look at your wing!” Twilight droned on, not noticing the princess’s fake smile cracking
“Twilight calm down I have been through a lot to get here, could you get us an audience with the Mayor? It is urgent, all of Equestria is in danger not even the elements of harmony will be enough this time” pleaded Luna.
“Oh, ok sure, I’ll go find the mayor” Spoke the purple mare quietly, but it was too late as the mare quickly ran towards the princess, looking quite tired as it was early morning and it appeared as though her hair had yet to be prepped for the morning.
“That’s ok twilight I’m here” huffed the tired mare “let’s go to my office shall we, we must be quite a scene out here in the market”.
Luna surveyed the area around her looking closely for the first time, at first a empty marketplace, but after close scrutiny it was revealed that there were quite a few ponies hiding in plain sight, a dark red one was trying to hide on the other side of an apple wagon and eyeing the unusual group with wide eyes, there was another pony, a light green mare hidden inside a barrel of carrots to scared to move but intrigued by the group. Luna found the whole situation to be amusing and allowed herself to chuckle as they walked towards the mayor’s office near the crowded train station.
“Mayor you should probably send somepony to tell them that the train is not coming for an unforeseeable future” directed Luna
“Umm … why sure princess I shall send somepony at once, I am sure quite a few pony will be angered, but that is better than a mob at the station” replied the mayor with nervousness in her voice.
With no more words between the groups they trotted towards the mayors building.
“So what’s with the commotion and the train delay” asked Mayor Mare more concerned with the crowd by the train station than the wounded princess,
“The commotion is a rebellion that destroyed Canterlot and have captured or killed my sister and your Princess!” shouted Luna who had lost all patience at the situation “that COMMOTION destroyed Canterlot and probably all of its inhabitants in the process! Now you ignorant bitch do you have any more questions or may I continue speaking?” Both of the other ponies seemed dumbfounded by both the way of behavior from such a royal pony and the threat of a rebellion, one that had destroyed the capital city of Equestria, but neither said a word
“Thank you, I have been through a lot, now onto more pressing matters. The capital is destroyed as well as the train and many of its inhabitants, so madam Mayor what kind of military is Ponyville capable of and how fast may it be deployed?’
“Well…umm… this is a small town and we don’t usually fight many things…so none, I’m sure the earth ponies are capable in combat with a little training… OH! And Cloudsdale is not too far from here I’m sure they would lend a wing or two” bleated the distraught mayor as twilight stared gravely crowd gathering outside the town hall.
“Ponyville does not have a military, Princess it would be foalish to stand and fight, it’s obvious from you’re wing, they skilled unicorns, even with Cloudsdale we would hardly stand a chance”.
“Seems twilight may have a point, I consider a retreat to somewhere far, far away” begged the Mayor
“you’re wrong, both of you, Canterlot was unprepared for an attack, we have the chance for an upper hand and I plan to take it, yes you’re right in saying we need to retreat… but not all of us, the children and those not capable of going through the physiological horrors that come with death… like your friends twilight, their names were Fluttershy and Pinkie pie right? The ponies like them and the children should be evacuated to another place seeing as how this is the closest town to Canterlot” Considered Luna
“Well yes Princess we could possibly hold our own with the help of Cloudsdale, and if we could send the children and some others over to Appleoosa or Fillydelphia.” Twilight replied
“Good, Twilight I need you to make a list of the people who should stay and those to send off to the other towns…. Mayor, it is your duty as well as mine to inform the ponies of what has happened, and what must be done I will be heading to Cloudsdale to tell them, and you should deal with Ponyville….oh and twilight if you could, I request you set up a strategy of defense for ponyville, tactics was always Celestia thing, not mine” Ordered Luna
“Yes princess” was the only reply the ponies could manage as they walked off to their orders

A few hours after the meeting, the 3 Ponies had a plan; Luna was heading to Cloudsdale to get the pegasi to assist Ponyville as scouts, after her and the mayor alert the town of the imminent threat and evacuation. Twilight is to take the lunar guards and few watchmen the town already had and organize a patrol of the town at all times, but first they had to inform the town of the threat. “Everyone, head to the town square, this is a state of emergency” ordered several of the lunar guards. The ponies glanced nervously to one another as the last crisis was queen Chrysalis and the changelings at Canterlot; even Pinkie Pie seemed to understand the severity of the situation, “ponies, ponies please calm down, as you all know the train from Canterlot is more than just late, as I have just been informed by princess Luna it is probably destroyed” spoke the mayor. Many ponies gasped, thinking such a thing would never happen “People of Ponyville, I am princess Luna, the mayor has just said, the train is gone. But it is far worse than that… Canterlot has fallen, rebels have taken the city and Celestia… w-we don’t know what has happened to her, as your princess I declare a state of emergency and require that all ponies have a task, most of you will go to the other larger cities, while some of you must stay here and protect the town, if anypony believes they should stay please talk to commander Midnight Shadow or Twilight Sparkle, the two of them are setting up the militia list as we speak”. A majority of the ponies understood the gravity of what had happened and understood their job “Everypony please we need to act fast to be ensure the towns safety” Luna ordered. Most ponies quickly trotted towards the board outside the library to see if they were staying or moving to another town with the fillies.
“Well that went better than I expected” remarked the mayor
“Indeed, now I must head to Clouds dale in see if they can spare a hoof or two, don’t let any riots break out until I get back” Luna said
The flight to Cloudsdale was short for Luna and her several guards they landed near the weather factory. Several of the pegasi on shift bowed to their princess as she passed on her way towards the leader of Cloudsdale who resided in the shift managers building near the weather factory. It only took a few knocks for the manager to open the door. “Princess what a surprise please do come in” smiled Cloud Kicker
“Now is not the time for formalities, have you seen Canterlot?” demanded Luna
“I’m sorry princess, but I have not, us here in Cloudsdale are very busy controlling the weather and such around Ponyville we do not go out very often” replied Cloud Kicker nonchalantly.
“By Celestia have you not seen the sky or the Ruins of Canterlot?! Where were you foals when the city was burning! Celestia is gone, we might have stood a chance but you Foals are incompetent!” screamed Luna “and stop with the pleasantries, me and my sister gave you your job and I can just as easily take it away!” demanded Luna
“I-I see princess, but I’m still not sure what has happened” quietly muttered Cloud Kicker
“that’s what I am planning on telling you, Canterlot has fallen, Celestia is either with the rebels or dead, and Ponyville is the closest town to Canterlot and seeing as how the rebels have an unknown number of unicorns they may also have pegasi with them” Calmly spoke Luna
“W-well what do you want me to do, us pegasi have not had military practice in decades, surely you do not expect us to fight rebels hoof to hoof” bleated Cloud kicker. Luna had enough of the nonsense
“Of course not you idiot I’m ordering you get the best flyers and organize scouting parties while we set up Ponyville for attack, and another thing! How about using the weather to our advantage, like thunderstorms and fog, such things could be useful”
Finally understanding the shocked leader of Cloudsdale could only nod and walk away to set up the pegasi for the immense task ahead. Luna let out a sigh and after giving herself a few moments to breathe and calm down walked outside the building to see her awaiting lunar guards ready for her command “you have all been through as much as me, maybe more, let us all go back to Ponyville and catch some sleep” spoke the royal princess. The guards seemed surprise that the princess could allow them sleep, but they knew that they should since they had not slept since they awoke to the invasion, deciding her right they flew behind there princess to Twilight Sparkles house to get the sleep they needed so badly
