Equestria was in a complete state of celebration and preparation for the event of the century. Word had traveled far and wide along with the fact that royals from all over were all converging at Canterlot for the knighting of the hero of Earth known as Martin Fairbridges. Usually such events were not AS popular with some citizens but in this case it was an extremely unique since a HUMAN not a pony was being knighted by Princess Celestia, especially since he helped saved Equestria on THREE occasions. Martin and his friend Alan along with Applejack and Rainbow Dash returned from Earth from a vacation a day previously and were also being prepped for the day’s events on their individual worlds.
Of course Pinkie Pie was placed in charge of the celebration plans which she absolutely was all on board for. The certain cotton candy colored mare was overlooking a check list when a certain griffin landed behind her.
Gilda glanced at the list, “Huh…what’s with all the decorations? Is this your going away party?”
Pinkie giggled, “That’s silly! It’s for a friend of mine actually.”
Gilda smirked at her and spoke with heavy sarcasm, “Who’s the lucky pony?”
Pinkie brought her into a tight hug, “It’s not a pony actually. It’s for MARTIN!!”
A legion of party cannons went off as an upbeat tune started as Pinkie danced around the ballroom.
“There's a party here in Equestria
There's excitement in the air
Ponies pouring in from near and far
Cause Martin’s going to be a knight!”
Gilda was pulled onto a bench as Lotus and Aloe began to work on her claws and talons while other ponies worked on her feathers surprising her so much that she couldn’t even react as Pinkie leaned on the bench beside.
“There's a party here in Equestria
Everypony will be there
Even if you're not a princess or a King!”
Gilda looked at her now groomed self and cried out in surprise as she flew off as Pinkie yelled after her.
“Do something with your hair!”
Lupe and Luna were sifting through various dresses as Lupe sang to her reflection.
“I mustn't wear an outfit that's naughty.
Luna jokingly conjured a turban on her head.
“A turban that's unravelling just won't do.”
Lupe showed Luna some earings to which Luna pointed out.
“Those earrings are tasteless and gaudy.”
Lupe pouted as she placed them down as Luna smiled and said.
“You're gonna look gorgeous when I get through.”
Rainbow Dash was helping to position clouds and fireworks.
“There's a party here in Equestria
So I'm going' to paint the town
If you want to see what colors are?”
Dash nodded as she revved her wings toward Ponyville.
“Follow me around!”
Dash then flew above Ponyville as everypony sang in unison.
“Martin’s getting knighted
And it's gonna be the event of the century!”
Alan was sitting atop a roof wearing a tux when Rainbow landed next to him as they both smiled.
“My buddy's getting' knighted and you're all gonna see!”
Just how much he can do!”
Pinkie was wheeling various objects into Canterlot.
“You've heard of your Safari Bar Mitzvahs!”
She then donned a tiki mask as Zecora smiled.
“You've all been to a luau sweet sixteen.”
She then grabbed a platter and sniffed.
“Well nothing of them compare to what this is
The food will be delicious, by evening you'll be bursting!”
A posh unicorn couple stood on a balcony as they looked at the festivities.
“There's a party here in Equestria
But we're not sure that we'll go
For although the Princess is hosting…”
Pinkie stuck her head out of a potted plant.
“The VIP is awfully low.”
Pinkie bumped them onto a trampoline below and then she soon landed in a wagon of pillows.
A pony reporter for the local gazette stared at others in attendance.
“Now we take you down to the palace
Where everypony has celebrated all night long
Without evil and malice
Everypony’s is happy! What could possibly go wrong?”
Three cloaked individuals observed the proceedings with sinister mirth.
“There's a party here in Equestria
And we're gonna rule them all!”
The middle one with gold eyes brought them into a huddle.
“While they're all munching caviar
Create a small disturbance
I'll sneak up from behind.”
Pinkie walked with the princess as she checked things off.
“We've ordered just a few tasteful flowers
And valets who will carefully park for you.”
Applejack tapped her hoof with Rarity as she sang,
“Those three have been dressing for hours!”
The CMC walked down the stairs in fine dresses as Applejack adjusted Applebloom’s bow with a smile.
“Girls you look just lovely and so grown up too,”
Pinkie waltzed into the main hall.
“There's a party here in Equestria
Guests are filling up the room
But there's something missing, but what is it?”
Alan looked around as Rainbow turned to him.
“Where’s Martin dude?”
Martin sat in his Equestrian living room as he looked at the box containing his dress clothes as he looked out at the town from the window and nervously smiled only for a knock to be heard at his front door. He approached the door and opened it to reveal Alan and Rainbow Dash who walked past him into the house’s living room.
Rainbow pointed at the cuckoo clock on the wall, “You’re going to be late.”
Alan looked at Martin with slight concern, “You okay man?”
Martin slowly nodded, “I’m just a little nervous is all.”
Alan looked confused at him as both he and RD asked, “Why?”
Martin sighed as he gestured outside.
“There's a party here in Equestria
And the party's all for me
Just look at where I am
My life has completely changed.”
Near Canterlot on the train, Applejack looked out the window and sang dreamily.
“There's a party here in Equestria
And I can't believe it's true
After all this waiting, here we are
Still the happiest pair.”
Martin looked at himself in the mirror as he combed his hair,
“I never, ever had a real love.”
Applejack straightened up.
“I never, ever had a real true friend.”
Both of them soon sung in unison
"Someone who could just understand me..."
Rainbow Dash banged on the door yelling.
“Hey, c'mon, Martin, this mush has gotta end!”
Martin walked out dressed in an outfit that was a little similar to Shining Armor’s humanized clothes except it had silver trim and a much deeper red. Pinkie then burst into the house with an oversized pocket watch.
Pinkie tapped the clock.
“There's a party here in Equestria!”
And it's starting right away!"
She threw Martin’s dress boots to him which he donned immediately,
“Let's getcha dressed, 'cause you're the star!”
Martin pulled on a pair of white gloves with a smile as both ponies and Alan sang to Martin as they all walked out the door.
“Hey, c'mon, you’re being knighted today!”
Pinkie immediately hopped on Martin’s back as all four took to the air at break neck speed zipping and maneuvering between buildings as ponies all looked up and yelled.
“Martin's getting knighted and it's gonna be
The ceremony of the century
Amazing how Martin could've come so far...”
Twilight was out front of the castle as she saw Martin approaching and smiled.
“He’s really getting knighted.”
Spike grinned as well.
“He’s really getting knighted.”
Fluttershy jumped in place
“He’s really getting knighted.”
Pinkie pointed ahead.
“Look at all those guests!”
“He’s really getting knighted.”
Martin then landed as Alan patted him on the back.
“You’re getting knighted dude!”
Martin smiled as the six and Lupe joined him as he smiled brightly and proclaimed.
“I’M REALLY GETTING KNIGHTED!”
The entire crowd followed in as every being present sang.
“He’s really getting knighted.”
At the party in Equestria!!
Such a sight to see
Come on, go with me
To the party in Equestria!”
Pinkie was still grooving as a few guards watched her confused, “OH YEAH GONNA PARTY! Party! Someone try to stop me! Oh yeah….,” she noticed the stares and blushed embarrassed as she quietly said, “Heheh…sorry.”
Pinkie Pie then slowly inched inside the main hall.
Thought i would kick things off with a bang in the form of a MUSICAL NUMBER!
Everypony of both civil and royal standing sat in seats that had been laid out for them by the party planner who was currently standing near the snack table eyeing one of the platters. This ceased immediately when the guards gave Pinkie looks which caused her to sit back in her seat with a huff. Lord Highwind of the griffin’s sat at the very front with royals heralding from all over the land, some were ponies of either pegasi or unicorn decent where the only exception was Princess Cadance of the Crystal Kingdom. Both Princess Luna and Celestia were overlooking the entire room from their thrones with smiles at the congregation before them. Princess Celestia noticed the absence of Shining Armor and the guest of honor which caused her to simply sigh.
Martin’s earlier confidence had faded the second he entered the hallway that was adjacent to the main hall. He was pacing back and forth in anxiety of the coming ceremony and was praying to whatever god was out there in creation to make him stop fussing. A few minutes later and Shining Armor showed up and asked him why he seemed so jittery.
Martin stopped pacing, “I’m about to walk into a room filled with the elite of elite and the royalist of royals and I can’t stop sweating,” he sat down in a chair and rubbed his temples, “at this rate I’m going to have a panic attack and look like a complete MORON in front of everypony.”
Shining Armor stood beside him, “It’s okay to be nervous, heck, I was to when I was knighted.”
Martin looked at him confused, “you were knighted?”
Shining waved a hoof, “in a manner of speaking. I was named the captain of the guard and dubbed as such. But when I approached the princess my hooves were like stone and my body felt and acted like a wet noodle.”
Martin chuckled, “That bad huh?”
Shining smiled, “Yeah. My dad had to actually move me to the steps of the throne like a puppet. Sort of like this.” Shining then made ragdoll movements while making his eyes spin and sticking his tongue out of the left side of his mouth.
Martin smiled, “that must have sucked.”
Shining nodded, “Yeah It did! Now some of the guards call me noodle hooves behind my back now,” he turned and pointed at a nearby guard, “I’m looking at you Jimmy.”
Martin stood up, “Okay, I can do this!”
He took a step forward and stopped, “I can’t do this.”
Shining Armor face hoofed.
In one of the many guard towers, two guards sat at the table playing a card game. One was a lieutenant from the night guard whereas the other was one from the day guard. Some of the guards were given the day off whereas the others were merely given duty to keep the grounds clear and to guard the attendees of the ceremony. In the case of the two lieutenants, they were given the day off but they had no clue what to do so they just decided to play a game of cards and bet a bit of their salary’s as incentive.
Both guards then heard a knock on the door which caused them to look up fast as the day guard motioned for the other to check it out. A few minutes passed by as the day guard got a little impatient and walked to the entry way to see what the holdup was only to stop dead in his tracks.
Princess Cadance looked at him and the night guard who hadn’t moved. Upon finally registering who it finally was they both bowed in respect.
The Princess walked in taking no notice of it, “Why are you two slacking off when there is work to be done?”
The day guard stood, “But we were given the day off.”
Cadance shook her head, “No no not THAT work.”
The night guard looked confused, “Then what work?”
A voice behind them cheerfully answered, “Our work of course.”
Both guards turned to reveal Discord casually leaning against the door frame, “Hello again.”
Both guards turned at the sound of sinister chortling revealing Queen Chrysalis who gave a toothy grin, “Security has gone down since my last visit. It’s almost pathetic.”
A figure garbed in a greyish black hooded cloak appeared behind both guards, “Agreed.”
The figure grabbed both guards by the back of their necks. Indigo energy surged into their heads causing them to collapse. All three villains shared a collective laugh as they gathered in the center of the room.
The figure turned to Chrysalis, “What’s your report from your drones?”
Queen Chrysalis smiled, “They have successfully over taken the guard house and surrounding checkpoints along with silencing all resistance.”
Discord examined his talon, “The guards have been “persuaded” to help us as per your request.”
The figure smiled under his hood, “Just as planned.”
Queen Chrysalis shifted into the day lieutenant whereas Discord assumed the form of a nameless day guard with his eye color as the figure exhaled, “Discord, round up the rest of our guards and drones and prep them for the attack. Chrysalis, inform the drones on the inside to await my signal and to move when instructed.”
The figure turned to leave the tower, “When the signal is given, join me in the throne room because it’s going to get loud.”
Lupe was sitting next to Twilight as the last of the guests shuffled in and sat down. Lupe all of a sudden began to hear a voice in her head which soon grew into a chorus which transitioned into a full on riot. She shut her eyes tight as pain invaded her and would not let up in the slightest.
Twilight saw this and placed a hoof on her shoulder, “Lupe are you okay?”
The voices ceased immediately as Lupe’s massively dilated pupils shrunk back to normal, “Yeah…I think so.”
Soon after the doors opened, Martin was seen walking toward the thrones. Everypony stomped and applauded respectively as Princess Celestia smiled at the human hero. Soon the room became silent as Martin kneeled before the queen and shut his eyes.
Princess Celestia cleared her throat, “Fellow royals and beloved guest. We gather here to usher in a new chapter in Equestrian history. For close to a year now the human Martin Fairbridges has shown examples of integrity, selflessness and honor. For these actions and saving Equestria from certain tragedy and doom I am honored today to…”
A booming voice resounded of the walls and seemed to be almost everywhere at once, “So touching and here I thought dramatics were dead.”
Everypony looked around until a pony sporting a fleur cutie mark pointed to up above them all to a ledge, “Look!”
Everypony looked up to reveal the figure that pulled his hood back revealing the face of a twenty-one year old with a head of medium length indigo/black hair with gold eyes, “I didn’t miss the cake and ice cream did I?”
The man jumped to the ground in front of Martin who stumbled back in surprise as the man waved at him, “Hey.”
Luna and Celestia both said one word upon seeing the strangers face, “Jinx?”
Jinx turned his head and grinned, “Well, well, look at you two all grown up and out on your own.”
Jinx snapped his fingers causing every guard in the room to turn into changeling drones. The doors burst open as brain washed guards and more drones poured in with Chrysalis and Discord backing them to which they both wore satisfied smiles.
Jinx then raised his arms as the troops took up position around the throne room, “GOOOD evening fillies and gentlecolts. We are today’s entertainment and please stay a while,” Some of the guests tried to make a run for it only for drones and guards to block their paths as Jinx coldly stated, “We insist.”
And before anypony says it NO things have not escalated quickly. WE. HAVEN'T. EVEN. STARTED. >:)"
Jinx surveyed the room of ponies and humans respectively and sighed sadly as he paced, “Children, the universe has indeed changed since your uncle Jinx has been away. New life forms and civilizations have blossomed.”
He stopped and stared into space, “Oh how time has gone by…,” the saddened look then vanished completely replaced with a maniacal grin, “But I’m rested, I’m nourished and I’m ready to take the universes reigns anew ONCE MORE BABY!!!”
Discord cleared his throat, “I don’t mean to interrupt but we have business.”
Jinx blinked once, “Oh yeah. Well you all are probably wondering why we are all here.”
Pinkie Pie bounced above the crowd, “Yeah we are!”
Jinx smiled, “I’m so glad you feel that way. To put it simply, we are here to take over the kingdom,” everypony gasped as Jinx waved his hand; “It’s really no big deal.”
Princess Celestia narrowed her eyes, “You will not take my kingdom Jinx.”
Jinx straightened slightly as he turned to Chrysalis, “Chrysalis did you suddenly feel a blast of hot air?”
Queen Chrysalis laughed, “Indeed. It seemed to be EXCEPTIONALLY loud to.”
Discord chuckled, “And a redundant voice seemed to be lingering with it.”
All three villains began to laugh in mirth much the chagrin of the Princess in question who’s right eye twitched in anger. Jinx snapped his fingers as he continued to laugh causing several drones to seize the six and the humans. Jinx began to approach them only for a solar flare blast to streak past his head causing him turn around.\
Discord and Chrysalis made moves to intercept Celestia only for Jinx to raise his hand, “I’ll take care of her.”
Jinx sneered at her, “I must say that you have grown into quite the attractive mare. Is there a “Prince” at your beck and call?”
Celestia stared with boiling anger at him, “You’re an insufferable tyrant!”
Jinx smiled in response, “Takes one to know one.”
Celestia placed a defiant hoof forward, “I will stop you as I have stopped all other beings like you!”
Jinx gave a cocky grin as he turned his back to her, “Sounds like a gas baby, bring it on.”
Celestia responded with a concentrated burst of pure solar energy which Jinx turned to meet. The energy lit the room up like a miniature sun had gone off as Jinx vanished from view in the ensuing blast. Everypony had to shield their eyes as the energy flared bright and hot only to dim and vanish to reveal Jinx who was closing his outstretched right hand into a fist as the light seemed to vanish and extinguish within it. Jinx wagged a finger at Celestia as he quickly raised his left hand and sent the exact same attack at both Princesses who gasped in surprise as it hit them both.
All present cried out as they collapsed and lost their crowns on the ground. Jinx walked up to the down Princesses and shook his head in pity.
Jinx then bent down to be eye level with the downed Alicorn’s, “When will you both learn that fighting back is futile,” he walked over to the crowns and crushed them both under his boot heel, “Fragile signs of authority owned by fragile rulers, how fitting.”
He then approached Martin, “I assume you’re the one who has been killing my family?”
Martin didn’t even have to think, “Sortitus told me he had a fifth sibling. I mean no offense but you have one messed up family.”
Jinx chuckled and then punched Martin square in the gut getting chuckles from the drones holding him.
Discord then approached Martin and gestured to his face as Martin looked at him, “I’m waiting.”
Martin glared at the draconequus who laughed, “Such anger.”
Queen Chrysalis was looking at Alan up and down, “How exotic these “humans” are. I must say you are one strapping specimen unlike the other one.”
Alan cringed away from the queen, “If you think that then you’re in for a shocker.”
Alan then grabbed one of the drones legs and discharged as much electricity as he could into it causing it’s carapace to smoke as it dropped. With Alan’s free hand he flung a volley of electricity at the drones holding Martin who fell like stunned flies.
Martin landed as he began to fight of a tide of drones and brainwashed guards yelling, “ALAN FREE THE OTHERS AND GET EVERPONY OUT OF HERE!!”
Alan nodded as he hurled more volleys of electricity at the drones and the occasional guards freeing the captured six and Lupe who all began to scatter and fight off the oncoming hoard as best as they could. Jinx, Discord and Chrysalis merely watched the proceedings with straight faces. Martin was soon escorting as many ponies as he could out of the building with the army following close behind.
Alan desperately brought his hand back as he stood outside and yelled out, “GET BACK YOU INSECTOID FREAKS!!!”
Alan was ready to shoot a bolt of electricity as he usually did but something else occurred instead of the norm. The electricity seemed to become solid and stretch out into a whip like shape which slashed across half of the army in front of him.
Alan regained himself for a second, “Energy constructs?! NICE!!”
Martin yelled after his friend as Lupe pushed a section of guards into a wall, “MARVEL LATER! RUN NOW!”
Lupe shut the door with her powers and made sure to bend the hinges to prevent them from opening as she rushed down, “That will keep them busy.”
They all looked at the ponies assembled before them. The small party that was with them consisted of Fleur De Lis, The Six, The CMC, Lyra Heartstrings and Bon bon.
Martin sighed as he looked at Lupe, “How many got out?”
Lupe nodded, “I’ll check.” she then removed her necklace and shut her eyes.
Lupe had been practicing and honing her empathy to the point where she could sort of create a mental window and observe ponies that she sensed. There was an unfortunate side effect of her now honed skill, since she was connected to several ponies at once she would feel everything that happened to them mentally and emotionally.
As she looked into the room she saw that the rest of the army had left whereas a sizable amount of Ponyville inhabitants and citizens of Canterlot were still inside the main hall with the royals still present. Jinx was the only one in the room out of the army of evil; he glanced at the frightened faces of the ponies and then looked directly at Lupe. Lupe noticed that among the various ponies were a few she came to know, Derpy hooves, The Doctor, Colgate, Rose, Lilly, Aloe, A griffin known as Gilda, Fancy Pants, The Wonderbolts core members, Granny Smith, Big Mac and Mayor Mare with several others.
Jinx smiled at Lupe, “I know you can see this girl. Please tell mister Fairbridges that this is one of many things he shall come to expect if he keeps up his heroics.”
Jinx looked at the assembled mass once more and raised his hand toward them and then took on an emotionless look. His hand began to glow a bright white from the palm and began to get brighter as a rumbling was heard. Soon the light became so bright and intense that Lupe couldn’t even see any more of the assembled beings inside…then the screaming started. Lupe felt all of the screams, agony, and pain from every single being for a very long and powerful second before it ceased. All of this cumulated in her grabbing her head and letting loose a blood curdling scream as ghost like flames ignited on her body.
Martin ran to her, “LUPE!!”
Lupe turned to reveal her eyes that were glowing with a mixture of fiery red and orange. She soon convulsed sharply and collapsed in a heap in Martin’s arms with the flames extinguishing soon after.
Everypony looked at the castle as a white light surged from every crack and crease as Rainbow Dash jumped, “What in the hay was that?!”
Rarity then gestured toward Ponyville, “I suggest we get as far away from here as possible lest those ruffians return.”
Alan gently took Lupe from Martin as they all made for the train station which already had rescued ceremony attendees hurriedly boarding it. They all boarded the train as it pulled away from the station. When the train passed through the mountain that acted as a direct tunnel to Canterlot a loud explosion decimated the track behind the now moving train.
Discord and Chrysalis stared after the departing train as Jinx walked to the balcony they currently were using with an unusual spring in his step.
Chrysalis looked to Jinx, “Don’t worry about those worthless heroes. I shall send a contingent to retrieve them.”
Jinx raised a hand, “don’t bother. I think they will get the message soon enough.”
Discord raised an eyebrow, “How so bro?”
Jinx pointed to three bolts of electricity streaking toward Ponyville with the same grin he had worn in the main hall.
When the train pulled into the station all ponies and others alike were greeted by Phobos, Aequivalere, and Sortitus but they all wore grim expression. Sweetie Belle and Rarity met up in the crowd as did Martin, Applebloom and Applejack. Alan approached the aspects with a smile and struck up a conversation to figure out why they arrived. The aspects spoke to Alan whose determined and hopeful smile immediately vanished and replaced with a shocked and devastated one.
Sweetie Belle and Rarity weaved through the crowds in an effort to find their parents who were also in attendance at the ceremony.
Sweetie yelled out, “MOM! DAD! Where are they?”
Rarity gave a comforting smile, “They probably fell asleep in their seats.”
Sortitus approached the dress maker, “I require you and the survivors you came with to come with me to the library.”
Soon all the six, the humans, and the six survivors that were with them were in attendance as Phobos tended to the unconscious Lupe.
Sortitus was silent for ten minutes before speaking, “I feared this day would come. Now I’m afraid my fears have become reality.”
Twilight stared at the aspect with hope, “But now that you’re here you can help to stop Jinx.”
Sortitus shook his head, “Unfortunately I can’t.”
Martin looked at him, “Why not?!”
Sortitus sighed, “It’s because he is my eldest brother…and he is stronger than even I.”
Alan had been silent the entire time which caused Rainbow Dash to fly over to him, “You alright?”
Before he could respond however, Lupe awoke and yelled out in anguish. Martin ran to her with everypony else behind him.
Lupe grabbed Martin with tears in her eyes, “the rest of the guests…”
Martin looked at her, “Lupe what happened?”
Lupe quietly said, “Dead…”
Martin looked at her with growing concern, “What?”
Lupe then screamed, “THEY’RE ALL DEAD!! I FELT IT ALL!! OH GOD I FELT IT!!!”
Lupe broke down into tears as everypony looked to the aspects with tears.
Sortitus approached Applejack and Rarity and spoke to grave words, “I’m sorry…”
Both mares and their sisters went limp as they broke down into utter sadness.
Martin however erupted into pure rage, “that bastard I’LL KILL HIM!”
He made for the door only to be stopped by Sortitus, “It will be suicide to fight him alone. Applejack and Applebloom need you more than ever Martin.”
Martin’s fists unclenched and spoke calmly, “What do we do...”
Sortitus rubbed his chin, “Staying here will put everypony at risk. Plus you must protect your friends and the princesses.”
Martin turned his head at this as the door to Twilights lab opened to reveal the injured but alive royal sisters. Martin nodded as he looked at the fearful and broken friends around him and sighed.
He looked at Sortitus, “Will Jinx pursue us?”
Sortitus slowly nodded, “Eventually he will. But for the time being he shall establish his hold here and allow his actions to destroy all hope and freedom.”
Alan stood, “But why do we have to take Bon bon, Lyra, and Fleur with us?”
Sortitus grinned, “The more ponies and people who live free from Jinx, the more hope ponies and all other beings will have when the final battle is joined. Trust me.”
Martin gripped Sortitus’s hand firmly, “I trust you, even if it seems I haven’t I always have.”
Martin opened the bridge using Twilight’s lab door, but before they left Sortitus said one more thing, “Freedom is the right possessed by all sentient beings and it’s their duty to defend it.”
Martin and the survivors left through the bridge solemnly.
Martin and the survivors all sat in silence in his living room on Earth as Pinkie Pie looked up, “What now Martin?”
Martin smiled, “We live.”
(This chapter shall offer much more clarity and explain stuff that transpired all the way up to chapter 1. This is the first of two just to tell you, the second will take place directly after chapter 3)
The day for the most part had been dreary and bleak in the changeling’s realm. The swamp-like realm with its black organic looking vegetation with very odd looking green bulbs on them would frighten anypony within a hundred miles of its borders if any were brave enough to venture there. But outside this strange realm stood a figure in a tattered blackened robe who regarded the area with slight distaste and intrigue. He slowly proceeded through the muck and murk with wet splotching sounds as the mud sucked at the boots and began to grate on the man’s patience. Soon enough the trees began to thicken and the area darkened as a dull glow illuminated the area from the green bulbs casting greenish light upon the transitioning swamp into a land trail. The man stepped onto the trail and breathed a sigh of relief for finally being out of the swamps stank.
He looked around and began to take notice that he was no longer alone as shapes began to surround him to which he raised his hands, “Take me to your leader.”
He was then hit on the back of his head by something and blacked out.
Queen Chrysalis sat upon her black wooden throne and regarded the congregation of changelings in the cavernous chamber she called her throne room. She absolutely HATED her kingdom that had been shrouded in darkness and mud for as long as she had lived and yearned for a massive change of scenery and a better food source. That’s why she had set her eyes upon Equestria and all who resided there with giddiness and malicious intent. But she was banished form the kingdom of light by the very thing she sought, love.
She sighed in irritation at the memory of the cruel irony only for a changeling to approach her. The changeling himself had a scar on his right eye and was named Zalpha, the name always got a chuckle form the Queen but she merely regarded him with annoyance.
Chrysalis rolled her eyes, “What?”
Zalpha cleared his throat, “A scouting party captured an intruder at the border and it requested to be brought before you.”
Chrysalis smiled with intrigue, “Bring it here.”
Zalpha bowed deeply as he backed away then barked into the darkness for the troops to move; soon a dark shape was hauled into the room and deposited on the floor in a very ruff fashion.
Chrysalis tilted her head slightly confused at the creature; it seemed to use its hind legs to walk like some dragons she had seen and like other creatures it seemed to have opposable appendages used for grabbing.
Chrysalis smiled as the thing moved, “I admire you bravery creature, not many have the audacity to venture into my realm and request an audience with me.”
The Man got into the standing position so quickly that every changeling jumped in surprise, “Well I was in the neighbourhood and though I would drop by.”
Chrysalis noticed the thing had metallic gold irises that seemed to look through her as it scanned the area and came to rest back upon her.
Chrysalis cleared her throat as she stood, but maintained a safe distance, “So why does a creature such as you seek an audience?”
The Man smiled, “It’s more of a proposition really.”
Chrysalis laughed, “And what pray tell is that?”
The Man appeared directly in front of her in a blink of her eye, “Join me, and I shall give you your heart’s desire.”
Chrysalis sneered at him, “And who are you to demand such a thing?”
The man removed his hood revealing his identity, “I am Jinx, the eldest of the aspects of creation.”
Chrysalis had enough, “Whatever you are. Your visit has gone on long enough, GUARDS!”
Several drones swarmed toward Jinx as he turned his head halfway and regarded them very uninterested. Jinx swatted the air like he was dismissing the attack and the drones were then hurled from the room like cannonballs.
Jinx looked at the whole room, “Anypony else?”
The changelings made a move only for Chrysalis to stop them with a look as she turned back to Jinx, “I’m listening.”
Jinx smiled, “Good. Now I am well aware that you had attempted to conquer Equestria before and it failed.”
Chrysalis took on an annoyed pout, “Tell me about it.”
Jinx placed a hand on her neck and led her through the throne room, “Now picture this, a WORLD to yourself and your children. Peace and quiet and an all you can eat love buffet.”
Chrysalis eyes widened only for her to become skeptical, “How can you come to do this?”
Jinx grinned as he opened his hand and a shimmering portal opened in his hand to reveal a world covered by changeling vegetation, “Nothing is beyond my power my dear Queen.”
Chrysalis eye’s sparkled in wonderment at the spectacle, “All of this…could happen?”
Jinx nodded, “Of course but-“, the window vanished abruptly, “You could always say no and live as you have been forever.”
Jinx turned to walk away only for Chrysalis to yell, “Halt!”
Jinx smiled evilly as he turned, “Yes?”
Chrysalis nodded at him, “Myself and my kingdom shall join you.”
Jinx clapped his hands causing his robe to become a new greyish black one, “But we must still prepare.”
Chrysalis looked confused, “How so?”
Jinx smiled, “If we are going to invade a kingdom we need to get chaotic and who else can do it better than my brother.”
The moon had been obscured by cloud when two cloaked figures exited the Marshlands and ventured toward Equestria with a sole purpose of acquiring a certain individual. Soon both shapes appeared in Canterlot’s Statue garden and walked through the rows until they came upon a specific one.
Jinx tsked, “Sleeping on the job Discord, typical.”
Jinx snapped his finger and the stone exploded off a VERY shocked Discord who looked around, “WHAT! WHO! WHY! WHERE!?”
Jinx smiled at the draconequus who was VERY surprised to see the aspect, “Big Bro?”
Jinx spread his arms, “hey.”
Discord wrapped Jinx in a hug which Jinx returned, “I THOUGHT YOU WERE DESTROYED!”
Jinx dropped out of Discords arms, “Can’t keep a good aspect down, at least, not all of us.”
Discord looked to his pedestal and kicked it over, “Yeah, Elements of Harmony is some bad mojo let me tell you.”
Jinx sighed, “It can’t be helped-“
Discord cut him off, “And don’t get me STARTED on that annoying human!”
Jinx froze, “Come again.”
Discord looked at his brother, “This stupid mortal human with auburn hair destroyed Phobos trapped me in stone...and not in that order!!!”
Jinx swallowed and turned to a statue and obliterated it with a mere glare as he reeled on his brother, “YOU WERE DEFEATED BY A MORTAL?! AND HE HAS BEEN KILLING OUR FAMILY AND YOU LET HIM LIVE!?”
His voice when raised shook the very Earth and was louder than the royal Canterlot voice but sounded as terrifying as the collective cries of the horrors of Tartarus. He approached Discord as his gold eyes glowed.
Discord raised his talon and lion paw and spoke in a slightly frightened voice, “Now now brother, remember your temper!”
Jinx stopped mid step and exhaled as he rubbed the bridge of his nose, “Fine. Tell me about this human when we get back to the Marshlands.
Discord lowered his arms, “Why?”
Jinx smiled ominously, “Because that mortal was just added to my “to do list.”
Discord smiled as all three villains wandered off.
All of this transpired a week ago as they all witnessed the one know as Martin Fairbridges destroy Averius and celebrating.
Jinx stared at all present, “Alright drones, I want a large contingent of you to find out who is guarding the ceremony on the INSIDE and replace them ASAP. You will maintain your assigned identities until the appropriate time.”, he then gestured to the others, “On the ceremony day the rest of you are to follow my and your Queen’s orders EXACTLY. Errors will not be tolerated, understood?”
All the drones buzzed in agreement.
Jinx nodded, “Excellent. Let the game begin.”
2 weeks ago: After the exodus
Weeks had passed since the incidents at Canterlot…the tenants of the Fairbridges household rarely speak of it anymore for good reason. The home itself had undergone several changes to accommodate the increase of occupants. The garage had been cleared out and straightened up to act as a makeshift bedroom for Fluttershy, Lyra, Rarity, Sweetie Belle, Twilight, and Pinkie Pie. Bon bon, Fleur, Rainbow Dash, Celestia, Luna, and Scootaloo inhabited the living room. Applejack and Applebloom slept in Martin’s room just for the sole purpose of being near him in their time of need. Alan insisted on offering to allow some of them to crash at his place but Martin said he didn’t want to put him on the spot to which Alan accepted.
The humanized ponies realized that Martin, even though he had a job and got a fair amount of income, wouldn’t be able to care for them all even with Alan pooling in a bit of his paycheck. So four days after their arrival they all told Martin that they would get jobs. Even though he kept insisting that they didn’t have to, they stuck by their decision and headed out. Unfortunately only a few of them actually succeeded in their attempts, Bon Bon got a job at the local Sweet Factory at the mall, Fleur was booked to do photo shoots for product placement in magazines and Pinkie Pie worked at a downtown bakery. So far the ball was rolling fairly well, but there would be future complications which would escalate to the ultimate conclusion.
4 Days before present date
Martin sat on his couch in silent as he stared at the blank TV screen with a solemn look. Even though Martin tried to forget what had happened he would always see the smiling faces of those he didn’t save back in Canterlot and it always left a stabbing sensation in his heart. He looked up to see a smiling AJ standing beside the couch, she took a seat and hugged him close which caused him to relax.
AJ looked into Martin’s eyes, “It’s all gonna be alright.”
Martin chuckled slightly, “Hey, I’m supposed to say that.”
They both embraced tighter and relished in the connection only to be interrupted by the smashing of glass. The both turned to see Lyra looking shocked and ashamed at a broken cup.
Martin face palmed as Lyra raised her hands, “My bad, still getting use to the fact that I have HANDS!”
AJ shook her head, “You’ve had hands fer awhile Lyra. Now yer just enjoin yerself.”
Lyra smiled ecstatically, “Buck yeah!”
Same day: Equestria
Jinx was standing with Discord and Chrysalis as they walked through Ponyville. The sun had not set for many days causing many plants to dry up or die and there had been a continuous overcast of grey clouds blanketing the land in a haze of depressing grey. Windows were boarded and doors were locked but the three rulers didn’t care that much because their business in town was of more importance.
Jinx stopped at the villain’s destination and raised his hands in a framing manner, “What do you think hm?”
Discord stroked his beard as he stare, “It’s more an eyesore if anything.”
Chrysalis nodded, “Agreed, something must be done.”
The trio looked at the Ponyville school house with looks of distaste and artistic contemplation.
Jinx clapped his hands together, “Okay, we level this and the surrounding land and make a 100 foot high statue of us of gold.”
Discord shook his head, “Nah, gold’s to overdone.”
Chrysalis raised a hoof, “Silver?”
Jinx shook his head, “That’s less expensive then gold.”
All three villains stood in silence for three minutes till until they all said in unison, “DIAMOND!”
2 Days before present date
Martin and Alan stood before the front door with Martin holding the key in his hand.
Alan looked at his friend, “You sure about this?”
Martin nodded, “Hey we’ve been getting away with it so far.”
Alan raised a finger, “Exactly my point. We have been going back and forth for 3 weeks now and our lucks going to run out.”
Martin was about to unlock the door only for Alan’s hand to clamp down on his friends, “Listen to me! You have been a wreck since…you know what. It’s not your responsibility anymore.”
Martin smacked Alan’s hand away, “To me it is.”
Alan sighed in exasperation as they entered the bridge. When they saw Ponyville in its current condition they both looked at the ground in anger but then looked up and noticed a 100 foot high statue made of diamond depicting Jinx, Chrysalis, and Discord pointing to the horizon in an epic fashion. Below the statue sat a plaque that depicted one word, “OBEY!”
Alan shook his head as he looked at the statue, “This isn’t a monarchy. This is a dictatorship.”
Martin looked around at the blocked out windows and sighed in sadness. Both humans then looked toward Canterlot and gasped. Canterlot had several black dots in its skies along with a layer of cotton candy clouds in the sky above the castle.
Alan narrowed his eyes at the spectacle, “Changelings and zombie guards most likely.”
Martin nodded, “figures.”
Alan looked at his friend once more, “What now?”
Martin looked around at the scene before him once more and sighed.
Martin grasped the handle of the door they had come through, “Working on it.”
As Jinx sat atop his black throne in silence he glanced at the changeling who entered.
The changeling bowed, “Your eminencies, I bring important news.”
Discord drank some glass, “Speak Burker Rater.”
Burker sighed, “One of our scouting parties have reported in that the humans have been sighted.”
Jinx smiled, “Perfect, you’re dismissed.”
Burker left with a smile at a job well done as Jinx turned to Chrysalis, “Give The Squad the go ahead.”
Chrysalis looked at him curiously, “So soon?”
Jinx nodded with an evil grin, “Yes, I’ve let those ponies and humans live free long enough.”
Explainations and Exposition are over. TIme to get back to business."
Martin was sitting on the couch with Alan and RD as all three of them watched Highlander on DvD. Rainbow found the whole prospect of the lore within the movie VERY interesting in terms of immortality.
Rainbow Dash stared at the screen as she said, “An accident.”
Martin looked at her, “huh?”
Rainbow turned to Martin, “What if an immortal’s head got chopped off in an accident or something. Would it still count?”
Alan shook his head, “Don’t think so.”
Martin thought on it, “The quickening might go to the nearest immortal at the time. In this game there are no do overs.”
Rainbow thought for a second, “what if none are around?”
Alan squeezed her in a hug causing then rainbow haired girl to squeak in surprise, “You’re over thinking it.”
Twilight walked into the room, “Over thinking what?”
Martin sighed as she sat down to join them. Alan on the other hand thought of something exciting.
Alan looked at Twilight, “Say Twilight.”
Twilight glanced at Alan and cringed as she saw Connor Macleod decapitate the Kurgan, “Yeah?”
Alan smiled deviously, “You girls ever play RISK?”
Twilight looked confused for a moment but shook her head, “Can’t say I have.”
Alan looked over at Martin, “You up for it?”
Martin rubbed his chin, “Sure.”
Nightfall came fast as the two humans sat at the kitchen table with a few humanized ponies namely, the princesses, Lyra, Pinkie Pie, Twilight, and Rarity. Rainbow Dash had been knocked out of the game fairly quickly due to impatience.
Princess Celestia was currently debating with her sister what collective move they should make since they formed an alliance and practically controlled various places in such a fashion that it put a strangle hold on the other players. Twilight was both frantic with coming up with a strategy and looked on in awe at her mentor.
Luna whispered to her sister, “But if you attack Martin’s army in China you’ll box Rarity in and be able to knock her out of the game.”
Celestia nodded, “True, but that leaves me exposed to an attack from Twilight.”
Alan was drumming his fingers, “No offence but not ALL of us are ageless.”
Celestia nodded, “Very well then. Martin I attack you in China.”
Before the roll could be made, the remaining ponies of the household entered from their night out.
Applebloom walked to the table and looked at the board, “Whatcha playin?”
Twilight’s hair was frazzled as she turned to Applebloom, “RISK.”
Fluttershy looked with equal curiousness, “how do you play?”
All players inhaled as Luna spoke first, “Risk is a game of global domination. Roll your dice and move your armies. Whoever gets the highest dice roll wins. The loser loses an army.”
Alan spoke faster, “Whoever gets the second dice roll wins and the loser loses and army."
Pinkie Pie raised a finger, “Draw a matched set of three Risk cards for additional armies.”
Martin nodded as he picked up his dice, “The winner is decided when all other opposition is wiped out and their army remains.”
Rarity sighed in anguish, “My blue army has been suffering massively.”
Applejack sat next to Rarity as and looked at Rainbow Dash who sat next to Alan. The rest of the ponies took up audience as the battle continued.
The eve of the climax was upon Martin and Princess Celestia. The battles had been long and fierce but they were the only combatants left.
Martin put his hands into the hand pyramid of evil contemplation as he looked at Celestia’s army’s which matched his to a t, “You know if you sign an unconditional surrender I MIGHT just let you walk away from this mlady.”
Princess Celestia narrowed her eyes, “I never surrender.”
Martin waved his hand, “So be it.”
Princess Celestia and Martin then began to roll their dice like mad until they were tied once more with one army on each side, “Martin you have been a worthy adversary but I’m afraid Europe is mine.”
Martin grinned, “We shall see.”
Celestia rolled her dice and smiled at the two fives and a one, “Beat that.”
Martin then rolled two sixes causing each pony to gasp as martin flicked the last enemy soldier off the board, “I win.”
Celestia was baffled, “But…my stratagem was flawless.”
Martin smiled, “I don’t strategize in this game, and I merely employed the Xanatos Gambit.”
Alan nodded, “Good call.”
Celestia was very confused until Martin explained that all of the losses to the other player and his victories contributed to his success.
Martin leaned back in his chair, “in conclusion, you destroyed yourself.”
Celestia smiled as she shook Martin’s hand, “You need to teach me this, Xanatos Gambit, one day.”
Martin nodded, “I might just do that.”
Scootaloo then called out from the kitchen, “Martin, you’re out of coke!”
Martin sighed as he stood, “Okay I’ll get some at the Safeway.”
Alan looked at the clock and it read 8:30pm, “Well you better hurry because it’s closing soon.”
Martin was walking through the lanes trying to find the frosty beverage but found none except the diet coke. Martin looked around for a staff member to help him out since he knew they might have some off the shelves in the back. He then saw a forty year old balding man wearing Safeway’s trademark uniform a few feet down from him.
Martin approached the staff with the name “Chuck”, “Hey, do you guys have any Coka Cola in the back room?”
“Chuck” turned to Martin with a smile, “Of course. Right this way.”
“Chuck” and Martin were soon in the back room of the store when “Chuck” told him to wait there. Martin nodded as “Chuck” left and began to look around. Martin had never been behind the employee only door before and had truthfully wondered how big it was.
Martin was about to continue on when he came to the realization of something he overlooked, the first thing was that he was the only one in the store aside from “Chuck” which was strange in itself and he thought nothing of it. But what set the alarm bell’s off in his head was the fact that if he remembered any protocol of management, it’s that under no circumstances are a non-employee to go into the area he was in now.
Martin whipped around to see three new employees with “Chuck”, “Where’s the pop?”
“Chuck” grinned ominously, “Were all out Martin Fairbridges.”
Martin backed up, “How do you know my name?”
“Chuck” and the other employees began to laugh as their clothes began to burn up in green fire and their skin rippled like water. Their hair vanished completely and was replaced by small thorn like horns, their teeth all sharpened into fangs as their eyes grew larger and turned completely blue and insect like. The fingers of their hands merged into three black talon like claws as their skin blackened and hardened into an exoskeleton like material. And the final changes took the form of the legs of each one becoming like those of dogs hind legs along with their feet turning into black talons. Green tattered looking dragon fly wings sprouted from their backs as the humanoid faces sneered at Martin.
Martin was looking around frantically, “Changelings, great.”
Chuck leered at Martin as his cohorts scaled the walls and roof to box in the human, “Our master’s wish for us to take you back.”
Martin’s hand closed on an emergency fir extinguisher, “Well I’m afraid that I’m going to have to take a rain check.”
Martin then sprayed each changeling with the white fog of the cylinder as her booked it past Chuck and onto the main floor. He stopped in the deli aisle and noticed all the employees that attacked him had been cocooned behind the counter.
Martin’s expression took on a grave one, “Well that’s just depressing.”
Martin then began to hear soft clacking noises and knew that the changelings had exited the employee room and were making their way to him.
Martin looked for the door and desperately ran to it only for Chuck to block him off, “Where do you think you’re going?”
“Away from you.”
Chuck was then hurled into the dairy aisle by a strong telekinetic push to reveal Lupe standing in front of Martin, “Hey.”
Martin was both surprised and relieved, “Lupe? How did you?”
Lupe grabbed Martin’s arm as she led him from Safeway, “I’ll explain on the way.”
Lupe’s car was parked out front when they both jumped inside, “Hold on to something!”
Martin grabbed the dashboard as the car rocketed out of the parking lot and down the street.
Chuck looked around as he used the cocoon fluid in conjunction with his own magical energies to conjure Queen Chrysalis’s face, “My Queen, I have failed.”
Chrysalis gritted her teeth in agitation, “Fool! Now he knows that you and your squad are on Earth. It seems that you can’t be trusted to take care of this simple task.”
Chuck was frightened, “What do you mean?”
Chrysalis stared into his eyes with authority fitting her rank, “I’m coming down there to clean up YOUR mess. Prepare for my arrival.”
All of the changelings stood in front of an abandoned mansion as the door handle began to jiggle. Each changeling looked at each other with fear as the door burst open in an explosion of green fire. Out of the flames stepped a woman with flawless tan skin and dark cerulean waist length hair. Her eyes were a moderate harlequin in colour as she gazed at her subjects with curiousness. She wore black and lime green robes with tattered trim and a black crown sat on her head.
Queen Chrysalis looked at her new form in a window and admired her new curves, “Truly exotic,” she then looked at her motherly chest, “Although I see no reason for these…additions.”
The changelings kneeled as a whole as Chrysalis examined her sharp black fingernails, “Rise.”
Chuck approached her, “My Queen you look positively radiant.”
Chrysalis regarded him with a half look but grinned smugly, “Was there ever any doubt?”
Chuck was about to speak until Chrysalis glared at him, “You failed me drone.”
Chuck groveled, “Forgive me my queen. I will make it up to you I swear.”
Chrysalis thought for a moment, “I would be inclined to believe you if you hadn’t done this for the second time.”
Chuck remembered back to when he smashed down in Canterot and almost stopped the pony known as Pinkie Pie. But she was more happy with his shape shifting abilities then afraid of him so he shifted into her at Pinkie’s request just to humour her only to be blasted by the unicorn magic of Twilight Sparkle.
Chuck blinked, “I don’t suppose you could give me a mulligan on this?”
Chrysalis responded by booting him in the face and into a tree, “Does that answer your question?”
Martin looked over at Lupe who was gazing straight ahead. Martin on the other hand was looking around frantically trying to figure out exactly what happened.
He had enough of the driving, “Lupe pull over.”
Lupe nodded as she stopped the car, “Okay ask away.”
Martin looked at her, “How are you even here?”
Lupe shut her eyes at the question.
Sortitus looked at Lupe as the bridge shut behind Martin, “I will return you to Earth so you can keep an eye on Martin.”
Lupe stared at Sortitus, “What about you?”
Sortitus sighed, “I will remain here with Spike and conceal my presence as to keep Ponyville from falling into complete darkness.”
Lupe nodded only for Sortitus to stop her, “There’s something…different about you.”
Lupe looked at Sortitus, “Back in Canterlot I experienced a moment where I started hearing voices in my head.”
Sortitus nodded, “I see. I will deal with that later, when you get to Earth stay out of sight and don’t reveal yourself to Martin until the time’s right.”
Lupe made the okay sign, “Roger that.”
Martin stared at Lupe who was slightly embarrassed, “You were here the whole time?”
Lupe nodded, “Yeah.”
Martin smiled, “It’s a good thing you were.”
Lupe nodded but then held her head in pain as she began to hear more voices causing Martin to grab her hand, “Lupe! You okay?”
Lupe winced as the chorus of voices died down, “Yeah I’m fine.”
Martin looked at her curiously, “Also, how is it you can use your abilities on Earth?”
Lupe looked at her hand, “I’m about as surprised as you are.”
Martin looked down the road, “We need to warn everypony back at home.”
Lupe looked ahead with a steeled resolved, “Agreed.”
Chrysalis walked downtown with her changelings shifted into human form searching uptown. As she passed by a bar a man cat called in her direction causing her to stop in mid step.
The man approached her with a drunken smile, “I think I’m dead because I’m staring at an angel.”
Chrysalis put a hand to her mouth as she giggled, “Oh stop.”
The man then invited her into a nearby alley to get better acquainted, “So baby what’s with the clothes.”
Chrysalis crossed her arms under her and leaned forward causing her chest to heave a bit, “I’m a queen of course.”
The man stared at her more prominent features, “I can tell.”
Chrysalis gave a sultry grin, “Perhaps you want to be my king?”
The man smiled, “oh yeah!”
Chrysalis gave a com hither wag of her finger, “Close your eyes. I like to start things with a kiss.”
The man’s eyes shut as he leaned forward with Chrysalis doing the same. Right as their lips were about touch, Chrysalis grasped the man’s jaw in a vice grip and pinned him against the wall.
Chrysalis’s pupils turned to slits, “Alright human, tell me what I want to know and I might let you live.”
The man squirmed in her grasp as she levitated him, “What do you want?!”
Chrysalis stared into his eyes, “What’s your profession?”
The man desperately spoke, “I’m…an accountant. Please don’t hurt me I have a daughter!”
Chrysalis tilted her head, “One who manages money. Have you ever done a transaction with a person known as Martin Fairbridges?”
The man stared at her, “I can’t tell you that.”
Chrysalis scratched his face, “ANSWER ME!”
The man yelled in pain, “YES! YES I HAVE!”
Chrysalis smiled, “Good was that so hard? What’s his home address?”
The man sighed, “That I don’t know.”
Chrysalis lowered him down, “To bad. Here’s a kiss goodnight.”
Chrysalis then forcibly planted her lips on the guys as her irises glowed a dark emerald green. The man’s skin paled and he went limp as Chrysalis dropped him.
Chrysalis spat on the ground, “Yuck! Tasted like mud!”
The changeling queen exited the alleyway and walked down the street. She saw two boys about 19 standing in front of a Starbucks. When she got closer she saw one was of the Goth persuasion and the other was reading a book.
The Goth Kid wore a shirt depicting a laughing Chrysalis and a caption, “Long live the Queen!” The Goth kid looked up and his eyes widened in surprise as Chrysalis raised an eyebrow at the shirt.
Chrysalis asked the boy since he was of age, “Do you know Martin Fairbridges?”
The Goth kid slowly nodded, “I know he lives on Hemsfield Dr.”
Chrysalis gave him a quick smooch on the cheek, “Thank you humble worshiper, your contribution will not be forgotten.”
The Goth Kid placed his hand on his cheek as Chrysalis waved her hand, “Carry on.”
The Goth Kid fainted in happiness.
At home Martin had explained the overall situation to the ponies…and they were not taking it well.
Rarity was on the couch sobbing in fear, “OF ALL THE WORST THINGS TO HAPPEN THIS IS THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!”
Alan nodded, “Amen to that. This is actually a good move on their part.”
Twilight was aghast, “What!?”
Martin nodded, “He has a point, and there are over a thousand people in this city and many more in the world. It’s the perfect place for a changeling to hunt for us.”
Celestia nodded, “We wouldn’t be able to see them coming.”
Scootaloo cried out annoyed, “So what! Are we supposed to hide and hope they all go away or something?”
Martin shook his head, “no, we just have to be careful and lay low.”
Bon bon looked at Fleur, “That might be a little hard for her.”
Fleur gave her an irritated look, “very funny.”
Pinkie dropped like a sack of potatoes as her legs wave around like wet noodles, “uh oh.”
Rainbow looked worried, “Uh Oh…what uh oh!”
Pinkie Pie looked at all the gathered individuals, “When my legs feel like wet noodles it means that a villain is scheming to attack us.”
Within the abandoned mansion Chrysalis was lost in thought as she stared into a hand mirror as her squad slept. The old couch she lounged upon was cleaned to a certain point that she thought was tolerable. As she glanced in the mirror she remembered the man Alan from the wedding. He may have been coupled with Rainbow Dash but she sensed deep down that he held her in admiration of some form. She had many ponies in her lifetime but now she wanted something that no other royal had a human consort. She laughed deviously as she sat in the mansion and began to think of ways to make Washington belong to her.
Chrysalis turned around and fell out of her seat with a yelp as Jinx stared at her, “I trust I’m not…interrupting.”
Chrysalis looked around embarrassed, “Uhm…no.”
Jinx knocked on her head, “Thinking about the Washington boy eh?”
Chrysalis smacked his hand away, “Stop that! You’re worse than Discord.”
Jinx laughed, “Oh please,” his tone then was as cold as ice, “I’m twenty times worse than him.”
Chrysalis cringed slightly as Jinx took on a thoughtful expression, “Hmmm…he could prove useful.”
Chrysalis looked curiously at him, “What do you mean?”
Jinx smiled devilishly, “You’ll find out. But rest assured he’ll be yours.”
Jinx started walking away before looking over his shoulder, “Change of plans, The Princess and the Washington boy only. And do not keep me waiting.”
Jinx then vanished as Chrysalis exhaled in relief, “I HATE it when he does that.”
Martin and the ponies were all at the mall staying separate but close enough so that they could keep tabs on each other better. AJ and Rarity had taken the CMC to Toys R Us to look around whereas the rest of the girls were shopping somewhere as Martin and Alan ate in the food court with the Princesses. In good spirits they got vegetarian food and were currently talking about a couple of stories with Luna and Celestia. After a while they all left for the Fairbridges home and were greeted with a curious sight. Martin’s front door was ajar which aroused much suspicion from the party as they slowly approached and entered. The house was empty and there was no one inside until they entered the living room.
“Impressive home you have here mister Fairbridges.”
Chrysalis was grinning ear to ear revealing fangs for canine teeth, “We were expecting you.”
Before Martin could react he was knocked down by something hard causing him to drop like a stone. This entire moment was soon accompanied by screams as Martin looked up at a smiling Chrysalis who planted her boot firmly in his face causing his lights to be figuratively and literally knocked out.
Martin awoke several hours later in a daze. He looked around his house and saw that there was a sign of a massive struggle before whatever happened concluded. I all then came back to him when he saw the six, Fleur, The CMC, Lyra, and Bon Bon awakening from being knocked out as well.
Twilight was frantic when she noticed three individuals missing, “Oh no…”
Martin looked and also noticed that Alan and the princesses were indeed gone.
Martin clenched his fists, “That’s it.”
Martin walked upstairs and grabbed some clothes as he came back down stairs, “Were going back.”
Applejack looked at Martin with worry as he pulled out the key, “But Sortitus said…”
Martin pressed the key to the door, “I couldn’t save all the guests…I lost them. I am NOT losing my friend and the princesses to!”
The door opened as they all appeared in Twilights library.
Twilight smiled at the familiar interior, “It’s good to be home.”
Martin nodded solemnly, “you won’t say that when you see outside.”
Martin started ascending the stair case leading to Twilight’s room to change, “I’m putting on some new clothes and then we are going to-“
Martin fell to the ground in a heap as a surprised Spike stood behind him with a frying pan.
Everypony including Sortitus who came in the front door all yelled at the same time, “SPIKE!!”
Alan awoke and saw that he was strapped down to a chair in a dark room as Jinx, Discord, and Chrysalis appeared from the darkness.
Electricity crackled along Alan’s body as he writhed in his bonds, “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE PRINCESSES!”
Jinx smiled, “I turned them into foals for what you call shits and giggles.”
Discord smiled, “But that’s nothing compared to what we have planned for you.”
Chrysalis ran a hoof along Alan’s face, “don’t worry though. It won’t hurt…you.”
Jinx, Discord, and Chrysalis all sat around a large conference table looking at the world map of Equestria and beyond.
Discord pointed at Manehatten and Las Pegasus, “I also want these along with the southern hemisphere of the world.”
Jinx rubbed his chin, “Seems reasonable enough. You get those, I get the northern hemisphere and Chrysalis gets Earth as agreed.”
Chrysalis looked at Jinx, “What of Ponyville, Canterlot, and Avalon?”
Jinx leaned back, “We spilt those 50/50/50.”
Discord nodded as he turned the entire southern hemisphere pink on the map, “I can live with that.”
Zalpha entered the room immediately, “My lord.”
Jinx sighed in annoyance, “What? I’m in a meeting.”
Zalpha looked behind him then back at Jinx, “The Princesses won’t stop crying.”
Jinx sighed, “Just throw peanuts at them again.”
Zalpha shook his head, “that doesn’t work anymore.”
Jinx looked at Discord, “Could you?”
Discord stood and left the room for a minute then came back, “Lips are literally zipped.”
Jinx looked at Zalpha, “Your still here?”
Zalpha nodded, “We got reports from one of our sentinels watching Ponyville. There was a flash of light within the library.”
Jinx nodded, “So he’s back then. Thank you Zalpha that will be all.”
Chrysalis glanced at Jinx, “What’s our next move?”
Jinx smiled, “We merely wait.”
Martin sat on an armchair rubbing the back of his head after several apologies from Spike were said. Martin raised his hand and told him it was no trouble as he told the CMC to go into Twilights room with Fleur, Bon Bon, and Lyra. Martin, Lupe, The Six, and Sortitus sat in absolute silence as they began to go over various thoughts in their heads.
Martin spoke first, “I’ll say what were all thinking, we have to save them.”
Rarity looked at Martin with a blank face, “Martin, Canterlot is a fortress and we don’t even know what they’re planning.”
Jinx sat on Celestia’s throne with a bored expression and ran a hand through his hair while looking at the center of the throne room where the foal aged princesses were suspended in a hanging cage crying softly. He looked to his left then his right, he saw Chrysalis and Discord sitting on their own thrones with more amused expressions as the changelings and brainwashed guards continued to laugh and insult the child princesses. After one of the changelings threw a random carrot at the cage, Jinx stood up with a slight spring in his step as he approached the changeling.
He then grabbed the changeling and brought it eye level with him as he said in an amused voice, “you remind me of the babe.”
The changeling answered with confusion, “what babe?”
Jinx dropped him hard as he answered, “the babe with the power.”
Chrysalis looked confused as well, “What power?”
Jinx did a strange hand gesture in her direction as he responded, “Power of voodoo.”
Discord raised an eyebrow, “who do?”
Jinx pointed at him, “You do.”
The changeling he dropped before looked very confused, “do what?”
Jinx then grabbed him once more and said with a smile, “Remind me of the babe.”
He then threw the changeling into a pile of armour pieces which incited laughter from every being present except Jinx who raised his hands and began to sing,
“I saw my baby, crying hard as babe could cry
What could I do?
My baby's love had gone
And left my baby blue
Somehow the changelings and brainwashed guards read his mind and sang the lyrics with him as a chorus, this insisted more confusion from Chrysalis and absolute amusement from Discord,
“What kind of magic spell to use?”
The thrown changeling raised a hoof, “Slime and snails.”
Jinx replied with, “Or puppy dogs' tails.”
A guard then brought his own suggestion, “Thunder or lightning.”
Jinx then pointed with both hands at the princesses as every head in the room followed his point, “Then baby said.”
The foal princesses made angry gurgling’s in his direction as he smiled and began to do a happy jig as he and the chorus started singing once more,
“Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Put that baby spell on me”
The princesses made more gurgles as Jinx made gestures for some of the chorus to jump when he sang the lines, to which they did,
“Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby, make em free”
He then approached the cage and spoke with a smirk, “The funny thing about all of this is that your kingdom was ours in a mere few hours.”
Every villain then laughed with mirth as Jinx continued his song,
“I saw my baby, trying hard as babe could try
What could I do?
My baby's fun had gone
And left my baby blue
During this whole performance, Discord decided that since Jinx was in a good mood he would join in the fun, Chrysalis also felt the contagious song and dance reach her as all three villains began to sing in unison with the chorus
“What kind of magic spell to use?
Slime and snails.
Or puppy dog's tails!
Thunder or lightning.”
All three pointed once more at the princesses, “Then baby said?”
More angry gurgles,
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Put that baby spell on me
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby, make him free
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Put that baby spell on me! (ooh)
Martin gestured through the window in Canterlot’s direction as some fireworks went off, “Does that answer your question?”
Rarity chuckled, “I suppose they are a little preoccupied.”
Martin leaned forward only to see Sortitus flinch in pain, “You alright?”
Sortitus straightened up, “Yes, I’m fine.”
Twilight looked at the aspect as he stood, “Where are you going?”
Sortitus sighed, “I…must take my leave, I am sorry. And as I said I can be no help to you against Jinx.”
Martin just smiled, “Don’t worry about it, we’ll manage.”
Sortitus was surprised at this, “You don’t mind?”
Rainbow shook her head, “Nah, you’re in an important position.”
Lupe nodded, “Just be careful, we’ve lost enough friends today.”
Sortitus stood at the door and lingered but then spoke in a quiet tone, “Despite everything I’ve done to your lives…it was for a good reason.”
The aspect of destiny turned back to them and smiled sadly as he left. Everypony was very curious of why he acted that way but soon it was forgotten when Martin began to explain his plan to them in great detail.
When Martin finished his explanation he nodded, “No more standing on the side lines and waiting for evil to make the first move.”
Rainbow Dash flexed her wings, “They took the princesses and kidnapped my boyfriend. I think it’s time we give Jinx and his cronies a working class flank kicking.”
Martin pointed at her, “Exactly, who’s with ME!?”
The rest of the six cheered louder than normal which caused all of the ponies to turn their head to look at the door. Spike stood in the door with a smirk as all of Ponyville looked into the library.
Martin stood, “I’m warning you all now, that this could get dangerous. So if anypony wants out-“
Mayor Mare shook her head, “Those fiends have been on our princess’s thrones long enough. We are behind you all the way!”
A very muscular Pegasus then yelled, “YEAH!!”
Martin smiled, “Alright then,” he then took on a serious look as he looked toward Canterlot, “Lets Rock.”
Sortitus sat in The Sanctuary staring at his exposed torso. The sides of it and the front were covered in bad burns which seemed to pulse with each beat of his heart. He sighed as he stood up to reveal his entire back was scorched as well and seemed to have slash marks.
The clearing of a throat caused the aspect to turn to reveal Aequivalere crossing his arms.
Sortitus conjured his robe on, “What?”
Aequivalere shook his head, “The wounds from the battle with Averius?”
Sortitus looked away, “What of them?”
Aequivalere shook his head, “They have not yet healed and have seemed to have gotten worse.”
Sortitus turned to the cosmic window and ignored the comment.
Martin and the ponies of Ponyville and EVEN Cloudsdale stood in the center of town as Martin stood on a podium and addressed all gathered.
Martin cleared his throat, “Filly’s and Gentlecolts, I know I am not of your world or a pony like the rest of you,” he then pointed to Canterlot, “But neither are they the royalty we all know and adore. I have never asked much from any of you but I ask you now, will you truly stand with me!”
All the ponies cheered as Martin nodded, “Twilight, how close can you get us to Canterlot without sounding the alarms?”
Twilight smiled, “I have been practising and honing my teleport. I can only get us as far as the actual city , not the castle.”
Martin nodded, “good enough.”
Twilight looked at everypony as she shut her eyes and concentrated, soon a massive magic bubble formed around everypony and there was a massive flash.
Jinx’s eyes suddenly turned from the cell containing both princesses whom he had reverted back to their regular ages as the sound of raw magic being used reached his ears.
Jinx grinned, “It looks like the game is afoot.”
Martin and all the ponies appeared in the center of Canterlot city much to the surprise of several inhabitants, Martin was still all business when he glanced at a nearby unicorn who nodded.
Above them all on a balcony overlooking the city was the trio of villains who noticed the assembled army which was soon joined by the ranks of Canterlot’s inhabitants.
Jinx merely laughed at the display, “Do they ever learn.”
Chrysalis turned her head to Zalpha, “Take them.”
Zalpha then yelled to all the changelings and brainwashed guards, “CHARGE!”
Discord turned to enter into the castle as Canterlot erupted into battle.
Celestia looked up at the sound of battle…and ducked her head as a massive hole was blasted in the wall of her cell which eradicated the door.
Both sisters then yelled, “STOP BLOWING HOLES IN OUR CASTLE!!!”
Martin rushed headlong into an oncoming swarm of changelings and came out swinging. Several changelings went to attack him with both their fangs and hooves but were easily repelled by Martin’s enhanced strength. Several unicorns were firing magic blasts at every oncoming enemy, but sometimes the blasts would miss and either hit the castle or surrounding buildings blasting holes in them. Earth ponies and pegasi were engaging the enemy in the sky and on the ground respectively. AJ bucked a nearby guard in the face and smiled at Martin who jumped to her side and joined in her fight.
Lupe was with Twilight and several unicorns telekinetically hurling every enemy coming near her and the group. As Lupe continued her assault, the voices began to return but with more ferocity than ever before. This forced Lupe to her knees as she grabbed her head in pain. Twilight took cover from a blast of magic from a brainwashed night guard which she returned with gusto.
Twilight looked at Lupe, “LUPE! Are you okay?”
Lupe suddenly stood up and gazed at a massive grouping of changelings that were flying to reinforce the current attack force. Lupe then stepped forward to meet the force as they swarmed toward her.
Martin turned when he saw this and knocked out the last bit of the preliminary attack force, “LUPE RUN!!”
Lupe then raised her hand and the entire changeling reinforcements were sent flying like cannonballs which bombarded the castle. All the ponies were in awe at the spectacle. However everypony began to notice ghost like flames began to light up along the surface of Lupe’s body. She turned to look at the group who went wide eyed at the spectacle before them.
Lupe spoke four words, “Get to the castle.”
Martin nodded, “Just be careful.”
Martin took off from the ground and shot toward the Canterlot castle as more reinforcements arrived to fight the ponies.
Lupe kept blasting away more enemies when a familiar voice drew her attention, “Luuuuuupe! Come out and playaaaaaaa!!!”
Lupe turned her head and saw a humanized Discord who waved, “Hey. What’s with that look?”
Lupe began to advance on the spirit of disharmony in a threating manner as she spoke in an angered voice, “You! YOU ruined my life!”
Lupe hurled a massive chunk of stone at Discord who deflected it with a wave of his hand as he shifted back to his regular form.
Discord’s face was now serious, “If that’s the way you want to play it.”
Discord then shot a massive blast of yellow energy directly at Lupe who raised her hand and deflected it into the sky. Discord’s eyes widened as he saw Lupe’s eyes for the first time.
Discord pointed, “Those eyes. Impossible!”
Lupe’s irises were now glowing like and were the colour of a raging inferno.
Martin smashed through the roof of Canterlot Castle and through several floors until he touched down on the lowest floor where the dungeon was located. He began to run as fast as he could around the area looking in each cell block trying to find the princesses and Alan.
Martin came to one sealed door and ripped it off its hinges as he entered to find a scorched chair with burnt restraints. He wouldn’t have thought anything of it, if it had not been for the fact that he saw Alan’s broken cell phone lying nearby.
Martin looked at the ground and swallowed his anger as he left the room and continued his search. For many minutes he found nothing until he heard the sounds of clopping hooves coming toward him.
Martin turned his head and saw Princess Celestia rounded the corner wounded, “PRINCESS!”
Celestia smiled, “Martin! Come on we have to go now!”
Martin looked at her confused for a moment, “What about Luna?”
Celestia was frantic, “She went on ahead.”
Martin nodded as they began to run.
Celestia then said with a smile, “I’m so happy that you came when you did Martin.”
Martin slowed his pace until he stopped, “I just realized something.”
Celestia tilted her head slightly, “What is it?”
Martin turned to her, “You usually address me by my full name when you speak to me.”
Celestia blinked, “of course, my apologies Martin F-“
Martin hopped in place for a second at the sound of a large explosion, “Along with my middle name.”
Celestia nodded, “Right, apologies Martin Rick Fairbridges.”
Martin narrowed his eyes immediately, “One more thing…I never told you my middle name.”
Celestia’s eyes flashed to a different set, “Can’t blame a girl for trying.”
Martin responded with upper cutting “Celestia” through the ceiling, “FYI, my middle name is not Rick.”
Martin flew up into the next floor as he looked at Chrysalis who rubbed her chin in rage, “YOU DARE LAY A HAND UPON A MARE OF ROYALTY!”
Martin cracked his knuckles, “Yeah. I dare!”
Chrysalis’s horn then proceeded to glow a dark green, “Test your might then, HUMAN!”
Martin went to attack only for a hand to firmly grasp his shoulder and proceeded to hurl him through a nearby hole and into the Canterlot Gardens.
Martin recovered and stared up at a glaring Jinx, “Hello again Mr. Fairbridges.”
Martin immediately took a swing at Jinx who grabbed his fist with ease, “Oh please spare me your heroics.”
Jinx then proceeded to break Martin’s wrist with a sharp jerk of his hand and then hurled Martin into a nearby statue which exploded into dust and chunks. Before Martin could even take a breath, Jinx was upon him once again.
Jinx grabbed his throat and proceeded to run through several other statues using Martin’s face as a battering ram, “I don’t know about you, but I’m having a ball!!”
Jinx then drove his fist into Martin’s ribcage causing several skin crawling snapping sounds accompanying this was Martin coughing up a helping of blood as he was hurled into the air like a sack of potatoes. Jinx appeared in midair and threw him with such force that Martin broke through the ground with a bang and smashed onto a cave floor.
Martin was completely limp when he came back into a conscious state. He looked around his surroundings and saw that he was in a massive cave with crystal’s jutting from the walls.
With each breath came staggering pain as he managed to use the wall for support and turned his head to see Jinx laughing at him.
Jinx walked forward wordlessly after he finished laughing and wrenched a piece of crystal from the wall and smashed Martin across the face with it causing small shards to fly against the cave walls mingled with Martin’s blood.
Jinx looked at the coughing Martin with disgust and psychotic rage, “YOU were supposed to be the hero of Equestria?!”
Jinx smacked Martin on the back causing the human to yell in agony as he fell into the wall. Jinx then turned Martin around and proceeded to brutally smash various section of the human’s body with the crystal until it broke on a slight angle.
Jinx kicked Martin away from the wall and clear across the room, “What a sick joke.”
Jinx watched as Martin managed to stand but had to lean against the wall coughing as his bones and injuries healed agonizingly slow.
Jinx slowly approached as he broke a bit more of the crystal off to form a razor sharp tip, “You can’t even save yourself.”
Jinx then raised the crystal and charged Martin who closed his eyes and bid his friends fair well.
Martin slowly opened his eyes to find the back of a white cloak before him with a red crystal protruding from the back of the beings stomach. The white of the cloak began to become tarnished by blood. Sortitus turned to look at Martin and forced himself to smile through the pain.
Martin barely managed his yell, “SORTITUS!!”
Sortitus broke off a bit of the crystal and yanked the rest out in one move which forced him to one knee in pain. Sortitus placed a hand to the hole in his stomach as blood began to drip from in between his fingers.
Jinx stared with shock, “Why brother…”
Sortitus looked up at his eldest brother as he stood, “You’re a heartless monster…and you deserve everything that’s coming to you.”
Jinx spoke in a monotone voice, “You can’t beat me Sortitus.”
Sortitus’s eyes became complete glowing blue discs as his robe began to glow whiter and continued to increase in brightness until he was enveloped in it. Soon the light faded to reveal that Sortitus had become a being made of pure white light, his hair was silver fire and he had four metallic gold angel wings on his back along with being covered in gold holy looking markings.
Martin stared at Sortitus’s divine form as the aspect of destiny responded with two words that seemed to echo in the chamber, “I know.”
Jinx nodded impressed, “You sure it’s wise to use your divine form in your condition?”
Sortitus narrowed his fiery blue eyes, “My health is irrelevant.”
Jinx nodded, “You would betray your own family to save a mere mortal.”
Sortitus nodded, “That’s not the only reason.”
Jinx sneered at his brother, “So be it.”
Lupe Was forcing Discord on the defensive as she was hurling projectile after projectile at the Draconequus who was having a real had time defending against the human woman’s onslaught.
Discord was more shocked if anything at the fact she changed since the last he saw her, “What is the matter with YOU?!”
Lupe smiled, “I’m giving you what you should have gotten a long time ago…karma!”
Discord was then blasted into a nearby building by a discharge of the ghostly fire, “AH!”
Lupe approached the hole as Discord sat up and looked at the firy girl, “Okay there is a certain level to the amount of weirdness I can take. And Lupe…you have exceeded that amount.”
Discord then transformed into a bird with jets for legs and zoomed off toward the castle as Lupe yelled after him in anger, “COWARD!”
Then everypony turned in the direction of a large explosion of white light.
Sortitus stared with an unending fury at his elder brother who merely chuckled as he gazed at the scorched ground, “Sortitus you disappoint me.”
Sortitus zoomed at Jinx like freight train only to be stopped by Jinx’s hand, “surely you can do better.”
Jinx then threw Sortitus into a nearby wall which shattered apart, “You forget I taught all of you everything I know.”
Sortitus stood up and created a spear out of pure light, “Not everything!”
Sortitus swung the spear then threw it right into Jinx’s left shoulder causing the eldest aspect to stagger backwards. Jinx merely regarded the spear with annoyance rather than pain and yanked it out. Sortitus raised his hand to attack only for the spear to go straight through his palm. Just as Sortitus moved to remove it Jinx blasted him with a bolt of black light which shattered Sortitus’s divine form like cheap glass.
Jinx looked down at his critically injured brother as more blood poured from the stomach wound, “That battle would have been more extravagant and long if you had a chance.”
Sortitus grinned and laughed, “You don’t get it do you?”
Jinx tilted his head, “What do you mean?”
Sortitus looked up at his brother has he began to slump, “It was…to…distract…you.”
Jinx turned his head abruptly as Martin right hooked him into a large patch of crystal.
Martin then ran over to the downed Sortitus and saw that he was barely breathing and unconscious but alive. Martin grabbed Sortitus and put him over his shoulder as he took flight out of the cave network and back toward the battlefield. Soon, Martin landed beside Twilight who immediately took notice of the injured Sortitus and was about to ask what happened only for Martin to cut her off with a wave of his hand.
Martin yelled as loud as he could, “RETREAT!!!”
Rarity ran to him, “What about the princess’s?”
Martin shook his head, “There’s no time!”
Rainbow Dash landed next to him, “Did you find Alan?”
There was a loud explosion where the crystal caverns were and Pinkie Pie said quickly, “Time to go.”
Twilight enveloped all of the ponies that assisted them and ported out.
Jinx burst into the throne room in a rage which caused Discord and Chrysalis to cringe as he glared at them, “WHERE ARE THEY!”
Chrysalis was nervous, “Who?”
Jinx blasted Celestia’s throne into ash, “THOSE ALICORN SISTERS!!”
Discord was both surprised and terrified, “Their gone?”
Jinx was about to answer until Zalpha entered, “My lord…”
Zalpha noticed Discord and Chrysalis waving and mouthing “No” only for Jinx to turn around, “what.”
Zalpha stared at Jinx’s livid expression, “Our troops…our awaiting your orders.”
Jinx merely answered by putting his hand on Zalpha’s head…then snapping his neck in one quick move.
Chrysalis yelled out something but silenced herself when Jinx turned to her, “I ask one simple thing of you all and you can’t even do that much.”
Jinx advanced on both villains as his voice dropped onto a low and cold tone, “I’m starting to question whether or not you’re still loyal to our cause. If you weren’t you would be both a traitor and a failure and you know how I feel about both. You’re not traitors are you?”
Discord and Chrysalis shook their heads and spoke at the same time, “NO!”
Jinx smiled, “Good.”
Discord stared at Jinx as he reassembled the throne, “So what’s our next move?”
Jinx smiled, “Oh WE don’t do anything.”
Chrysalis stared at him confused, “What do you,” a look of realization crossed her face, “I see now.”
Jinx sat in a relaxed posture, “I consider this a game of chess, Martin has moved his piece and now I am about to move in for the capture.”
Martin and the six were in the hospital with all the other injured ponies from the botched siege. However The Six, Martin, and Lupe had all been sitting outside of a patient room from a few hours now until Nurse Redheart and The Head Doctor exited the room with grave expressions.
Nurse Redheart approached the group, “I fear his wounds are fatal, he doesn’t have long. He has asked for you Martin.
Martin nodded as he entered the room to reveal the aspect lying on the bed with his robe still on and tarnished by Sortitus’s own blood. Sortitus turned his head and smiled.
Martin approached him, “I thought you couldn’t die.”
Sortitus looked at the ceiling, “Popular misconception about the aspects. Like the royal sisters we are ageless, not immortal.”
Martin sat down, “Starting to feel a little regret?”
Sortitus smiled, “Nah, I’ve been in worse situations.”
Martin looked at the dying aspect, “Why did you risk your life to save me. You could have stayed away,” He started to become saddened and angered, “You could have lived! But you threw your life out the window; you have a family that needs your guidance for godsake!”
Sortitus just looked at Martin as he continued to fume, “All the stuff you did I know was for the greater good. But we need yo-“
Sortitus placed his hand on Martin’s head and the world turned white.
Martin felt his body but at the same time saw nothing of his body, almost like he was looking through a window. What he was looking at was Aequivalere following him through the marble halls of what could only be Sortitus’s.
Aequivalere was yelling at Sortitus who was not listening to anything he was saying and Martin seemed to follow him like he was on a rail track, “Brother please be reasonable! you can’t go down there and fight! Your wounds from your battle with Averius have not yet healed.”
Sortitus stopped and turned to Aequivalere, “That doesn’t matter now; the multiverse cannot afford for Martin to die.”
He turned and left Aequivalere with ominous words, “Besides, I am not long for this world.”
Martin just stared in amazement as the scene exploded into white.
He was back in Twilights library the hour before the siege when Sortitus stood before the door.
Sortitus turned to look at the group, “Despite everything I’ve done to your lives…it was for a good reason.”
Sortitus vanished and Martin went with him.
Sortitus appeared before Celestia who stood and hugged him, “Teacher.”
Sortitus smiled with tears in his eyes, “My student. You have grown into a kind ruler and a powerful mare;” Sortitus pulled away slowly, “The student has become the master. Be well, Princess Celestia Solaria of Equestria.”
Princess Celestia looked after him with a concerned look, “Teacher?”
Sortitus looked at her with a saddened smile, “I am afraid this is our final meeting my most prized and beloved student.”
Celestia began to cry, but Sortitus wiped the tears away, “Do not weep for me, you must be strong for your subjects and for your sister.”
Sortitus placed a hand on her head and remade her crown, “It still looks ravishing on you.”
Sortitus then vanished and instead of the world exploded into white it vanished into black.
He stood outside Canterlot and looked around; he noticed a chariot with pegasi pulling it waiting as Twilight was approaching it after saying goodbye to her brother. Spike was nowhere in sight however and he noticed a familiar white Alicorn watching her until it transformed into a unicorn instead and approached her.
The unicorn smiled as he levitated the book on the elements of harmony to her, “You dropped this on your way out.”
Twilight Sparkle took the book, “Thanks.”
Sortitus smiled, “Keep that book close and never let it go. Oh and Miss Sparkle…”
Twilight looked at him, “Yes?”
Sortitus smiled, “You’re going to have a great day.”
The scene faded.
Sortitus appeared out front of two story home and smiled as he floated up to the top most windows and entered. Martin looked at the house with surprise as he realized that it was his parent’s old house. Martin appeared with Sortitus in a room decorated with various animals on the wallpaper and a white crib. Martin appeared beside Sortitus and stared into the crib of a one year old boy who looked at Sortitus with a smile and cooed.
Sortitus smiled down at the child, “Martin, never forget that you are destined for greatness. You will save many and be loved by many. But never forget this-“
Sortitus turned and looked at Martin, “I shall and always will be your friend.”
Martin awoke and stared at Sortitus who was smiling at him, “You were always there watching all of us and pushing us along. You were always the reason why I never felt like I was destined for a regular life.”
Sortitus shook his head, “I merely paved the road, and it was your choice to follow it.”
Sortitus then looked to the sky and sighed as his being under his cloak began to glow white. His being began to break into white sparks which vanished until there was nothing left but a dirtied white cloak.
Martin walked out with the cloak in his hand as everypony in Ponyville watched him stand still. Rarity gently took the cloak as Martin looked toward a still smoking Canterlot. All of this was interrupted by Pinkie Pie approaching at break neck speed.
Pinkie Pie stopped panting, “Library…at…must…”
The Six, Martin, and Lupe followed Pinkie to the library and stopped as they saw someone standing there.
Rainbow Dash smiled, “ALAN!”
Alan Washington turned at the sound of his name, “Hey.”
Martin looked at him and saw Alan was wearing black boots and matching shirt along with pants. He was also wearing a black trench coat that reached to his ankles as he stared with a blank look at all of them.
Rainbow Dash was all smiles, “I KNEW YOU WEREN’T DEAD!”
Twilight was happy as well, “How did you escape?”
Alan looked to the side, “I didn’t, I was released.”
Martin was tense as he stared at his friend, “What’s with the Sylar look?”
Alan shrugged, “Jinx said I might as well look the part.”
Martin was shocked, “What part?”
Alan pointed directly at him, “The part of the guy who beats you.”
Martin stared at Alan for a good few minutes before he started laughing, “Okay that’s a good one!”
Alan had a complete straight face which caused Martin to cease his laughter, “wait…your serious?”
Alan answered very grimly, “Yes, I am.”
Twilight came to Martin’s side, “Martin, that can’t be Alan. It’s probably an imposter.”
Alan raised his fist as it crackled with electricity, “I assure you I am no imposter.”
Rainbow was greatly confused as she floated over to Alan, “Ooookay, I don’t get the whole new wardrobe and speech pattern. But I am just happy that you’re alright.”
Alan looked at the cyan colored Pegasus then looked back at Martin, “Whatever.”
Everypony gasped as Rainbow’s left eye twitched, “EXCUSE me?”
Alan looked straight at Rainbow Dash, “Do I need to spell it out for you? Although I would not be surprised if I had to since you are by far the densest out of everypony.”
Pinkie inhaled, “Oooh he should not have said that.”
Rainbow got right in Alan’s face, “Listen here you jerk! I have been worrying myself silly which I don’t do too often, about your sorry butt! If you have something to say-“
Alan grabbed Dash’s hind hoof and soon she was engulfed in electricity. After a few seconds, Alan let her go and booted her into Martin like a football.
Everypony regarded Alan with fear and anger as Twilight examined Rainbow Dash, “She’ll be fine, she’s just stunned.”
Martin walked past the group and approached Alan, “What the HELL was that!”
Alan dusted off his front, “She was being a pest, so I shut her up.”
Martin was flustered, “But…she’s your girlfriend.”
Alan waved the comment off, “Why settle for the rest when I can get the best.”
Martin was about to respond when a thought entered his mind, “What did they do to you?”
Alan smiled as he sauntered toward Martin, “They showed me a lot of things and told me what I needed to hear.”
Alan stopped right in front of him, “My eyes were opened, and I was reborn. A new man so to speak.”
Martin stared at his friends eyes which were completely different from what they usually were. Gone was the glint of light and comedy that existed within them, now all that was there darkness.
Martin was hurt when he spoke to Alan, “Why…”
Alan pushed Martin back with each word, “Why? WHY?!”
Martin got to his feet as Alan pointed straight at him, “I hate the fact that you have gotten to live la vida loca while I barely get any recognition. You aren’t even a brony and you have been living the dream life that I have only dreamed of.”
Martin was now annoyed, “Listen to yourself, this isn’t even you talking. Jinx, Discord, and Chrysalis have twisted your mind so that now…you’re not even you anymore.”
Alan’s fist crackled with electricity, “Don’t you DARE lecture me! Did it ever occur to you that maybe I am tired of living in your shadow and want a little time in the lime light? Does it matter to you in the slightest that MAYBE I might be tired of bailing your ass out of every single situation that you got in? Well…DOES IT?!”
Martin’s eyes widened in shock at the words Alan spoke and they faltered in sadness at the fact he had failed in the one thing he wished not to fail in…saving his friend.
Alan took notice of this and sneered, “Did I hit a nerve? Or is it maybe that you finally realized that you are no hero, hell you couldn’t even save ponies without calling on me for help. That is just sad.”
Rarity had enough, “HOW DARE YOU! Don’t you dare bring the lives of those ponies into this! If I wasn’t-“
Martin raised his hand, “He’s right, I didn’t save them. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t save you Alan.”
Alan laughed at the sky, “Oh please! You think your freaking superman because you can fly and not get hurt or is it maybe because you like the fact that you can fight evil on this plain because in reality you’re sick of Earth and everyone on it because they don’t give you a purpose in your life. Sure there will be some collateral damage every now and then when you come to the rescue, but there will always be happy citizens waiting to praise your efforts. Face it Martin! Your ideals are about as redundant as the air you breathe.”
Everypony was shocked at Alan’s speech. Martin however began to circle Alan who mirrored his movements. Both humans locked eyes with each other as the intensity in the air thickened; storm clouds began to churn in the distance and started to cover the sky.
Martin shook his head, “Don’t do this Alan. I don’t want to hurt you.”
Alan scoffed, “I’m done talking.”
Alan then sent a volley of electricity into Martin’s torso which hurled the human a block down the street. Alan went to intercept his quarry only to be blocked by the five ponies and Lupe.
Applejack pawed the ground, “If ya want to get to him. Ya gotta go through us.”
Alan regarded them for a mere second, “Fine.”
He opened his right hand as electricity surged and solidified into the rough shape of a katana. He raised the sword only to be sent flying by a massive piece of debris. Alan stood up and saw Martin who flew at him like a bullet and both humans shot above the cloud line.
Alan smashed a charged fist into Martin’s stomach and threw him away from himself.
Alan floated in the air as the katana construct became more like a whip, “You can’t win Martin! You know full well that I am stronger than you!”
Martin’s voice was heard all around him, “Power doesn’t matter,” Martin appeared behind Alan, “What matters is how you use it.”
Martin then grabbed Alan and hurled him into an active storm cloud. The lightning and thunder surged as Martin panted. Martin then cried out in pain as the electro-whip surged out of the clouds and lashed Martin across the chest. The whip came around and wrapped around Martin’s throat as he was forcibly yanked toward Alan who followed through with a clothes line.
Lupe and the six as a whole were trying to find out where the battle was taking place. They got the occasional clues via impact that resounded through the air or the occasional volley of electricity.
Lupe turned to look at the six as they tried to keep up, “Twilight, you think he’s got a chance?”
Twilight was grim in her response, “As much as I would like to say yes… I’m afraid Martin’s at a major disadvantage.”
Fluttershy was frightened at the booming of some thunder, “What makes you say that.”
Twilight and the group had entered an open field, “When I analysed Alan’s abilities it seemed his electric powers were evolving faster than his other abilities and they seem to have a potent effect Martin. This accompanied with the fact that Martin is still recovering from his injuries from his fight with Jinx.”
Pinkie Pie was worried, “This isn’t going to turn out well is it?”
Twilight sadly nodded as it started to rain.
Alan and Martin were engaged in a mid-air grapple as they kept getting higher in elevation. They broke away from each other and collided occasionally as they halted at about Canterlot’s elevation.
Alan was fuming as held his electro whip, “I defended you in high school and now IM GOING TO KICK YOUR ASS!!”
Alan slashed Martin vertically down the left side of his torso knocking him off balance. The whips came in more rapid succession as the electric weapon tore and burned Martin’s flesh and clothes. Martin yelled in pain and fury as he grabbed the whip in mid swing and yanked Alan into his free fist face first and began to dish out volleys of blows which Alan countered, blocked, and dodged.
Alan noticed that Martin was boxing rather than brawling and kneed Martin square in the ribs causing him to gasp in pain as the air rushed from his lungs. Martin fainted away in pain as Alan stood with a smile.
Alan raised his hands, “You’ve been thunderstruck.”
Alan then let loose a massive volley of electricity at Martin who yelled in agony and writhed in mid-air as the bolts coursed through him. Alan let up for a second as Martin began to slowly drop out of the sky and he began to increase in velocity. Alan flew straight at him and barreled into his ex-friend and both of them soon broke through the clouds and impacted into the ground with an earth shattering blast.
Lupe and the six approached the crater as Martin, barely able to stand, appeared at its rim and weakly said, “R-run.” Alan’s whip then wrapped around his throat and sharply yanked him away from prying eyes.
Alan ran at his ex-friend and delivered a massive haymaker to Martin’s jaw causing the hero to stumble and fall onto the now muddy crater floor. Alan rolled Martin into his back as he sat on Martin’s chest and began to hammer Martin’s head and chest with powerful electrified punches. For a minute all anypony could hear near the crater was the sound of superhuman flesh cracking superhuman bone.
Martin’s face was battered and bleeding as Alan stood off of him and noticed his bone and flesh already slowly healing. Martin opened his eyes and tried to speak, only for Alan to drive his lightning Katana into Martin’s chest. Martin’s eyes widened to the size of dinner plates as his body convulsed massively.
Alan left the katana where it was as he floated out of the crater and into the sky looking down at Martin’s prone form. Martin then looked at his friend and with the greatest amount of strength he could muster he raised his hand pleadingly.
Alan snapped, “Why…won’t you…DIE!!”
Martin blinked as Alan was obscured by a massive bolt of white and then all Martin felt was absolute agony all over. Alan kept yelling in anger and with each yell a bolt of lightning descended into the crater and blasted Martin.
After a minute the lightning stopped striking…Martin didn’t move…or breathe.
00 Alan landed and regarded the crater with a look of contempt as a flash of light appeared behind him. Out of the light stepped the three false rulers of Equestria who stood and stared at the crater with smiles. Discord floated above the crater and peered inside and began to laugh with glee.
Discord floated down beside Alan and placed his talon on the human’s right shoulder, “WELL DONE MY BOY!”
Jinx nodded in agreement, “Very good, I had my doubts about you.”
Chrysalis maneuvered her way behind the human and shape shifted into her Earth form and wrapped her arms lovingly around Alan neck, “You have done well my Black Knight.”
Alan smiled at the contact from the queen, “Thank you m’lady.”
Rainbow Dash noticed this and her face turned bright red, “You!”
Chrysalis flashed Rainbow a toothy grin as the cyan mare went in for a fight. Twilight however prevented her advancement as the villains laughed in triumph.
Jinx raised his hands, “Citizens of Ponyville,” he then gestured to Martin’s body which was lifted from the crater, “Let this be a reminder of who is in charge in this kingdom. If ANY attempt to over throw our rule again you shall share his fate!”
The villains along with Alan and Martin’s body vanished. All of the ponies were both shocked and saddened at this massive turn of events. No words were exchanged as they all trudged back to their homes in silence.
Martin awoke screaming but stopped when he looked around. He was in a plain white space that had nothing in it whatsoever. He was wearing his wrecked battle torn clothes, but all of his wounds and dirt were gone.
Martin looked around once more in confusion, “Where am i?”
A pony in a black robe appeared before him, the only thing was the pony had no skin and seemed to have a unicorn horn that was curved and scythe like.
Martin jumped to his feet in surprise as the burning red dots in its sockets focused on him, “Jesus Christ!”
The pony looked from side to side, “Who?”
Martin sighed, “Never mind, I’m dead aren’t I?”
The pony shrugged, “If you could call it that.”
Martin was confused at this, “What do you mean?”
The pony paced in place, “Your spirit has left your body. But your body isn’t dead, at least not yet.”
Martin raised an eyebrow, “Huh?”
The pony exhaled, “You’re having a near death experience.”
Martin looked around fearful of his situation, “Holy shit!”
The pony shook its head, “Don’t worry, it happens all time.”
Martin pointed shakily at the pony, “Are you the grim reaper?”
The pony shook his head, “One of them, the one your thinking of presides over Earth. I met him once; he’s a bit of a downer though.”
Martin nodded, “I’ll bet.”
The pony clapped his hooves together, “Alright, here’s how this works. You are literally on deaths doorstep here and you have two options.”
Martin sat down and stared into space, “Live again or die right?”
The pony nodded, “Pretty much.”
Martin continued to sit in silence, “Can you give me a few minutes please?”
The pony slowly vanished, “Sure.”
Alan stared at Martin’s prone form in the cell he stuck him in. Chrysalis approached from the left and shifted into her human form as she brought Alan into a hug.
Chrysalis smiled as she petted Alan’s hair, “My knight, are you feeling regret?”
Alan looked at the Changeling Queen, “No…”
Chrysalis traced a finger across his face and produced her nail with a tear on it, “Really?”
Alan nodded again as he once more looked at Martin’s body, “yes…”
Chrysalis gave him a peck on the cheek, “Good boy. Now come along, we are having a banquet in honour of your victory.”
Lupe was pacing in Twilights lab as the frazzled unicorn was going over paper after paper of test results, “I told you before Lupe, your fine.”
Lupe stopped, “No I’m not! For close to a month I have been having massive headaches and strange episodes and I want to know what’s causing them!”
Twilight cringed as a nearby apparatus smashed into the wall by itself causing Lupe to jump in surprise, “OH shi…I am SO sorry.”
Twilight waved her hoof, “it’s fine, were all under a lot of stress.”
Rainbow Dash entered the room and looked over at her friend, “Stress is a bit of an understatement.”
Twilight trotted over to Dash, “Is Applejack alright?”
Dash immediately looked to the side with an uneasy look, “She’s…better.”
Twilight gave her a half look, “What did she do?”
Dash waved a hoof, “Nothing, but just for a future reference you might want to stay out of the reading room for a few hours.”
Lupe sat in the testing chair and sighed deeply, “I’m so lost right now.”
Twilight looked over at a table that had Sortitus’s cloak folded on it, “Usually by now he or the Princesses would appear and say something to lift our spirits.”
Aequivalere spoke up behind Lupe which scared every being in the room, “I guess you’ll have to settle for me.”
Martin sat beside the reaper pony, “I have to ask…does dying hurt?”
The reaper pony shrugged, “It depends on who you ask.”
Martin nodded, “Makes sense.”
The reaper pony tilted his head slightly, “Have you decided?”
Martin looked unsure into space, “I need to ask. What will happen if I die?”
The reaper pony didn’t sugar coat the answer, “All shall perish.”
Martin chuckled half-heartedly, “No pressure.”
The reaper pony nodded, “If you live, you will save them but feel more pain.”
Martin sighed, “Either way doesn’t look good for me does it?”
The reaper pony nodded, “Unfortunately.”
Martin nodded, “I’ve made my decision then.”
Jinx and the villains were all eating in silence when Chrysalis spoke up, “So what shall we do about that little insurrection that attacked us? Surely we will not let them all just walk away with a slap in the hoof.”
Jinx nodded, “Yes I was thinking about that. Killing Martin was nothing more than flinging dirt at a white dress. I believe we should fling red wine instead.”
Discord raised an eyebrow, “What do you suggest?”
Jinx looked at Alan, “Go to Ponyville,” Alan leaned forward as Jinx crushed his wine glass into dust, “And exterminate every creature you see.”
Alan bowed as he stood, “It shall be done, my lord.”
Jinx laughed as he jabbed Discord with his elbow, “He called me my lord. I LIKE this kid.”
Applejack was being restrained by Phobos whom came after Aequivalere’s arrival. He was currently preventing her from rushing out of the library to go to Canterlot and to, “firmly plant her hoof somewhere between Jinx’s lungs and colon”. Everypony was trying to calm her down until Twilight appeared with Aequivalere, Rainbow Dash, and Lupe.
Lupe stopped in mid-stride, “We have to end him before he ends us.”
Pinkie Pie stared at her like she was crazy, “Are you loco in the coco?! Sortitus couldn’t even beat Jinx!”
Fluttershy nodded, “Plus Alan is really scary now.”
As if to emphasize the statement a loud explosion accompanied by screams was heard. This caused everyone present to rush outside and witness Alan destroying buildings and causing mass destruction with a cold mask of a face.
Twilight trembled slightly, “Oh no.”
Rainbow Dash set her jaw as she stepped past her friends and onto the street accompanied by many objections.
Rainbow Dash then yelled at Alan, “HEY!”
Alan turned his attention, “What?”
Rainbow cracked her neck as she flexed her wings, “I know your still in their Alan. But nopony humiliates me, ESPECIALLY if that somepony is MY special somepony.”
Alan laughed, “Oh really?”
Rainbow crouched into a threatening stance, “Really.”
In the land of Avilon, Lord Highwind was busy with fortifying the local defences in an attempt to prepare for the coming storm which was inevitably on the horizon. He thought back to how the ceremony had been botched and how he lost his royal escort in the ensuing chaos. Highwind looked to the horizon and saw a darkening sky spreading outwards. He then felt two presences land behind him causing him to whip around in an aggressive fashion.
“We need to talk Highwind.”
Rainbow Dash was poised to pounce at Alan who was smirking at the threatening display. Alan clenched his fist as his electro-katana formed itself.
Rainbow nodded, “Okay I got to give it to you, that is pretty awesome.”
Alan sneered at the cyan Pegasus, “If you think this is awesome, you’re in for a REAL shocker!”
Twilight shook her head, “That was bad.”
Lupe looked from side to side as Alan’s attention was on the situation before him.
Twenty minutes earlier
Aequivalere glanced at Rainbow Dash and Twilight, “I must speak with Lupe alone for a moment.”
Both ponies reluctantly nodded as they left the room. Aequivalere gestured to two chairs nearby as both of them sat down.
Aequivalere sat in silence as he stared motionlessly at Lupe.
Aequivalere then spoke, “I have arrived with news.”
Lupe nodded, “I assume it is of a grave nature?”
Aequivalere shook his head, “Martin lives.”
Lupe’s eyes lit up, “I have to tell the others!”
Aequivalere stopped her there, “No! You mustn’t.”
Lupe tilted her head, “Why not?”
The aspect sat straighter than normal, “Because it must be you who recuses him.”
Lupe was very confused, “But why me.”
Aequivalere sighed, “You are dying.”
Lupe immediately levitated herself from sight and silently glided off toward Canterlot as Alan and Rainbow clashed below.
Lupe was still in shock at the revelation, “What do you mean I’m dying…”
Aequivalere sighed once more, “Do you recall the battle with Averius?”
Lupe nodded, “Yes.”
Aequivalere stood, “There is a reason your powers are stronger and why you hear voices.”
Lupe thought on it and her eyes widened in realization as Aequivalere voiced her conclusion, “A part of Averius live within you, and your body is breaking down because of it.”
Martin felt cold, colder then wearing a wet blanket in winter. He felt his limbs heavy with fatigue and his joints ached even with the most simplest of movements. He heard voices approaching his cell and went limp. He heard Discords voice alongside Chrysalis’s and they both sounded distressed.
Discord sounded nervous, “It seems times HAVE indeed changed Jinx.”
Chrysalis most likely nodded in agreement, “If he keeps this up we won’t have any subject to rule.”
Discord sighed, “I felt safer as a statue.”
The steps receded into the distance along with their voices. Martin was once again left in silence once more as he thought of what Alan might be doing.
Alan was slashing at the air ad hurling several bolts of electricity at Dash who was easily dodging around each attack, “Come on, stop trying to hit me and hit me!”
Alan growled in anger, “I’m going to wipe that smirk right off your face.”
Dash stopped in mid-air and made a face at him, “You’re going to have to catch me first!”
She zoomed off with Alan in hot pursuit. Dash began to maneuver herself around several tall buildings which Alan just blasted through unhindered. Dash cast a glance backwards as Alan began to close the distance. She noticed a cloud in front of her and bucked it into Alan who immediately lost control and crashed into town hall. Rainbow landed nearby as she breathed on her hoof and rubbed it on her chest. A bolt of pure electricity plowed into Dash’s chest sending her flying. Alan emerged from the rubble and advanced upon Dash like a lion going for the kill.
Alan grabbed the Pegasus by the throat and lifted her up, “Caught you, Rainbow Crash.”
Rainbow’s eye twitched at her hated nickname. She could barely muster a breath as Alan’s vice-like grip increased in tension. Her eyes bulged out as her vision swam before her; she then thought what a pony like Daring Do would do in this situation. Rainbow shut her eyes and kissed Alan right on the lips which caused him to become distracted but he continued his strangulation. Rainbow was going through several thoughts in an instant as she began to think of a different strategy. She then came up with the most logical one; she brought her head back and slammed it right in between Alan’s eyes. Alan let her go and covered his nose only for Dash to tackle him to the ground and she began to tenderize his face with very powerful hoof swings.
Dash was angry as a Manticore as she continued her assault, “You disappear and then show up as an evil villain?! Will you wake up and smell the smoke you MORON!!”
Rainbow let up for a moment as Alan lay beneath her panting, “Dash?”
Rainbow’s eyes widened, “Alan?”
Alan cringed in pain, “why does my face hurt?”
Rainbow went deadpan as she socked him again.
Lupe landed in the courtyard of Canterlot Castle and proceeded to walk in a quick stride. The brainwashed royal guard went to intercept her only for them all to be sent flying by an invisible force. Ghostly flames appeared on her body as she raised her hand and disintegrated a grouping of changelings. She blasted the doors off their hinges and flung them through the main hall decimating any and all that were unfortunate enough to be caught in their path. She shut her eyes and honed in on Martin’s emotions, she found a faint trace below the main level in what could only be the dungeons.
Lupe looked at the floor and began to rip the tiles up piece by piece. Several guards and changelings rushed her only for the tiles to create a miniature cyclone around her. Several guards and changelings were smashed in the face and hurled aside as a sizable hole opened up. Lupe leapt down and landed with a soft thud and proceeded through the many hallways. She stopped in her tracks as the room swam and a sharp pain stabbed her brain stem.
Aequivalere placed a hand on her shoulder, “I am afraid the effects will persist until…”
Lupe nodded, “I get it. I just need to ask this…was all of what was happening to us leading to this?”
Aequivalere nodded, “To put it simply, it began with Martin and it will end with him.”
Lupe sadly nodded, “I was afraid of that.”
Lupe coughed violently as a bit of blood appeared in her hand. She narrowed her eyes as she wiped it on the wall and pressed onwards. She slowed when she passed a cell that seemed to have a large hole blasted in the wall leading to the outside. She smiled as she continued to run; eventually she came to the last cellblock and saw a familiar figure lying on the floor.
Lupe smiled, “Martin!”
Martin stirred and barley sat up.
Alan stared at all of the wanton destruction he caused and it all accumulated at his eyes landing on the crater. He ripped the trench coat off revealing a black t-shirt underneath; he looked at Dash and the six with shame.
Alan looked away, “What they did to me…they broke me and threw me behind a wall of emotion. What I did, you have every right not to forgive me.”
Twilight looked down and then smiled with a caring look, “We understand Alan. Discord and Chrysalis have ways of altering pony’s perceptions.”
Alan nodded but then gritted his teeth as he looked to Canterlot, “I need to go help Martin and Lupe.”
Applejack stepped forward, “Were comin with you.”
“Not without assistance you’re not.”
Everypony turned to reveal Princess Celestia and Luna dressed in royal battle armour backed by over a thousand griffin warriors along with Lord Highwind. Twilight and the six ran to their monarchs and expressed their great relief at seeing them both again. Princess Celestia looked at Alan who nodded and shot off at breakneck speed as the sun broke through the clouds.
Princess Celestia turned to the assembled forces, “Alan Washington shall thin their forces allowing us an opening, when the opening appears we shall take back Equestria!”
Princess Luna looked at the six and placed the elements of harmony upon them, she then conjured armour on each one, “For your protection.”
Princess Celestia stamped a hoof as she turned her sights to Canterlot, “My little ponies, prepare for war.”
Alan was rushing through the sky at break neck speed toward the castle. On a balcony overlooking the area stood the villains who noticed the human.
Discord stroked his beard, “He’s coming back awfully fast.”
Jinx exhaled in annoyance, “Great, he broke through the wall.”
Chrysalis looked down onto an extremely large battalion of the villains forces and said two words, “Take him.”
Then the sparks began flying.
Lupe helped Martin to his feet as he leaned on her shoulder for support, “Come on big guy you’re not done yet.”
Martin chuckled dryly, “And here I thought I could get a nap.”
Lupe began to help him through the hallways and to the large hole that was in the ceiling. She levitated both of them inside the location.
Lupe looked around at her surroundings, “Oh shit.”
They came up into the throne room by mistake.
Alan cut down the last of the changeling forces as Celestia and the army arrived with gusto. Alan looked down at the six who were rushing into the castle in gold armour. Alan turned his attention to the balcony and narrowed his eyes in righteous fury. He raised his hand and directed a bolt of lightning at the three villains who were taken off guard.
The balcony was loose beyond belief as it groaned threateningly, Chrysalis had one of her wings burned as she grasped for a hoof hold. Discord floated over to Jinx who grabbed Chrysalis’s horn.
Chrysalis was frightened as the balcony collapsed, “JINX! Pull me in!”
Jinx raised an eyebrow, “Why?”
Chrysalis’s eyes widened as explosions resonated in the background along with the sound of bursting stone, “ARE YOU MAD!?”
Jinx leaned forward, “Considerably…,” he then let go of her horn.
Chrysalis wailed as she fell and cursed Jinx’s very name before she vanished in a large black cloud of dust.
Discord turned to Jinx, “Why did you do that!?”
Jinx grabbed Discords beard and stared straight into his eyes, “She out lived her usefulness. And don’t ever raise your voice to me again child!”
Discord pulled away, “Fine…”
Jinx suddenly straightened up as he blasted the doors off their hinges and entered the throne room to see two familiar humans, “YOU!”
Martin regained himself at the sound of Jinx’s voice, “LUPE RUN!”
Lupe put Martin down as she rushed the elder aspect. The world moved in slow motion as she blasted Jinx with a volley of psionic fire which was deflected. Jinx smacked her down with the back of his hand, but Lupe refused to stay down as she threw more objects at Jinx and blasted him some more. Discord merely backed into the shadows and he vanished in a flash. Jinx sneered at the girl who he blasted into one of the tree thrones and pointed at her as she was suspended in mid-air. He then pointed at the ceiling which Lupe hurled into at breakneck speed. He then pointed at the floor and she followed the fingers direction once more. Lupe coughed as she was levitated in front of Jinx; Martin looked up with pleading eyes as he forced himself to stand.
Jinx turned Lupe to face Martin as Alan came in through the opening, “I warned you once mister Fairbridges, perhaps I didn’t make myself clear.”
Lupe then smiled at Martin who yelled out as Jinx snapped his fingers. Lupe vanished in a red mist which
dispersed into the air and vanished. The remnants of her clothes dropped to the ground with fresh red stains on them.
Alan smashed into Jinx as Martin’s muscles tightened with his strength returning. Alan landed beside his friend as they both took aggressive stances as Jinx rose to his feet. His eyes became orbs of gold light as his cloak enveloped him then turned to smoke. Before them was a being whose body was a suit of demonic looking dark grey armour with black trim and dark indigo crystal segments. Radiating from any gaps in the armor was gold energy which was in a higher concentration in the eye holes.
Martin widened his eyes, “Okay that’s unexpected.”
Jinx opened his hand as a sword made of the same crystal that was on his armour formed in his hand.
Alan looked at the bladed up and down, “As is that.”
Alan formed his electro-katana as Martin broke a piece of stone off the wall that was in the rough shape of a sword as the humans rushed the aspect and clashed in the center of the room.
Twilight and her friends entered the main hall as they heard the sound of battle outside, their gold armour gleaming. The ponies then heard the sound of clashing weapons as they then rushed towards its source.
Martin, Alan, and Jinx were currently locked in an all-out duel with Jinx who was gaining the upper hand in the fight. Jinx howled in anger as she smashed Martin’s blade into smithereens the sheer force of impact hurled Martin through a column which came down on his head. Alan slashed Jinx across the chest which only slightly tarnished the armour. Jinx blaster Alan into the same pile of rubble that Martin was currently occupying. Martin stuck his head out as his friend joined him. Both of them stood up as Jinx appeared in front of them. From his back he sprouted six sharpened crystal spider-like legs.
Alan gestured, “OH COME ON!”
Jinx then spoke in a metallic booming voice, “Mortal fools.”
The legs then raised themselves to strike…only for Jinx to be sent hurling into a wall by a large mallet. Discord stood there in a polo shirt with a sun visor on his head.
Discord grinned, “Hole in one.”
Martin looked at Discord in confusion, “Why did you help us?”
Discord snapped his talon, “Make no mistake, I STILL despise all of you goody goodies. But Jinx is nuttier then a fruit cake and this dog needs to be put down for good.”
Jinx walked out of the dust cloud, “Traitor.”
Jinx pointed his sword at Discord as the spider legs aligned and directed energy into the blade which the aspect directed with pin point accuracy. Discord and the two humans ducked under the beam as it cut through the wall behind them and caused it to explode outwards as the room shook violently. Alan thinking on impulse raised his hands to the sky, his body surged with electricity as he yelled out as loud as he could, “SHAZAM!” Everyone saw white and everyone except Alan was hurled off their feet or hooves since the six JUST entered the throne room at that instant.
Outside, the two armies witnessed a lightning bolt the size of which had never been seen before smash into Canterlot castle and destroyed the entire top level in an explosion of sparks and rubble.
Princess Luna sighed, “I sense a great emptiness in the royal savings approaching.”
The smoke cleared to reveal all that remained of the throne room was a few very low walls, the occasional columns and the floor. The rest of the area and beyond was covered in rubble of all kinds. Alan looked around as everypony stood up and stared at him with looks of shock and annoyance.
Martin gestured around him, “Well you blew the roof off at least.”
Alan smiled in embarrassment, “I over did it, didn’t I?”
Rainbow Dash flew up to him, “THAT WAS AWESOME!!”
Alan looked around as Discord pointed with his lion paw, “Not awesome enough it seems.”
Jinx stood up from the rubble with his armour smoking, “You’ll pay for that.”
Jinx the fired six beams in different direction which he continued to direct at each of his adversary’s. Discord dodged several of them along with the ponies and humans. Jinx then cleared the distance…and rammed headlong into the combined blasts of the elements of harmony. Martin and Alan leapt into the blasted and smashed Jinx trough the floor and below into the ballroom. Both Alan and Martin were fighting the aspect with enhanced strength and agility. Both were forcing the aspect on the defensive.
Alan formed a more solid looking electro-claymore which he used to chop off four of the six spider legs. Martin smashed Jinx’s helmeted head several times with his fists. Jinx was flabbergasted at how the humans were managing to subdue him in his divine form. He continued to push until he saw an opening and smiled in victory underneath his helmet. He brought one of his legs back and drove it into Alan’s gut. Martin yelled in rage as Alan was hurled away, Martin grabbed one of the severed spider legs and rammed it straight into Jinx’s chest. Jinx froze as he howled in agony and anger; he raised his hands and there was a flash of white as Martin went blind.
Martin opened his eyes and found himself in a space devoid of light. He looked around at his blackened surroundings. A laugh was heard as Jinx materialized before him in his divine form; the helmet vanished to reveal Jinx’s regular head beneath.
Martin looked around, “What happened?”
Jinx gestured, “You like it? This is the nexus, they are between worlds.”
Martin clenched his fists but felt weaker than usual, “What’s wrong with me.”
Jinx laughed as he advanced and regrew his severed spider legs, “We are on neither Earth nor Equestria which is causing your natural powers to be in flux.”
Martin narrowed his eyes as Jinx advanced on him, “For EONS I stared at this empty space and nothing else.
When I kill you here it will seem like an eternity has passed before you finally succumb.”
Martin raised the still severed leg in his grasp, “That’s not going to happen.”
Jinx raised an eyebrow, “How is that?”
Martin ran at him, “I HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY WAITING FOR ME!!”
Jinx slashed Martin across the chest and hurled him away, “You can’t win. All great rulers are feared for their power…”
Martin bleeding out on the ground as Jinx threw him further away, “You are nothing but an insect that is beneath me!”
Jinx then raised his hands, “When you pass, none shall remember Martin the Hero. They shall instead remember Jinx THE GOD! FOR MEMORY OF ONE ENSURES IMMORTALITY!”
Martin shakily rose to his feet, “Sortitus…if you are with me now, give me a freaking sign here.”
Jinx tilted his head, “Where is Sortitus now Martin? Where did he guide you?”
Martin froze and silently spoke, “He guided me to this point.”
Sortitus shook his head, “I merely paved the road, and it was your choice to follow it.”
Martin thought hard on his last words, “Chose to follow it…”
Jinx stopped, “What are you mumbling about?”
Martin shut his eyes, “All I did was for a reason. He foresaw all of these events but never directly interfered. He set events in motion and all we did was choose to follow. Them.”
Martin’s eyes opened as a spark went off in his head, “I understand now.”
Jinx looked at him, “What?”
Martin looked at Jinx, “It was about choice, it was always about choice or the actions of one that would affect many. But every path in destiny has different paths to take that don’t always ultimately lead to the same conclusion.”
Jinx was getting angered, “Silence!”
Martin yelled back, “NO! Because I just realized where you get your power from, all of your actions up to this point have always been on a massive scale and were extravagant.”
Jinx blasted a beam at Martin who dodged it with ease, “You never did something under the radar, never took your time and waited. You always accelerated things too fast.”
Jinx yelled in rage, “BE SILENT WORM!!”
Martin ducked under the swing and stabbed Jinx in the chest once more, “Your power is from memories. As long as people remember and acknowledge your existence you have power.”
Martin then kicked Jinx down as he turned his back to him, “With you and I the only ones here, you sealed your own fate.”
Martin then started walking away, “I am choosing to not fight and follow the path that it leads to.”
Jinx stood up and rushed Martin, his spider legs went for Martin’s head bit turned to dust. Jinx vomited black blood as he fell to his knees. Jinx’s divine armour vanished to reveal his cloak beneath.
Jinx went to remove the spider leg but stopped, “I…am…cold.”
Martin continued walking as more black blood fell from the chest wound, “FAIRBRIDGES DON’T YOU DARE TURN YOUR BACK ON ME!!”
Martin ignored the dying villain as Jinx began to disintegrate, “NO! YOU BASTARD! GET BACK HERE!!!”
Martin stopped…and scratched his head and continued along his way. Jinx yelled in anger as Martin grew
smaller in the distance. Jinx then felt anger, fear and then regret as he then felt…nothing.
Martin heard the screaming stop as the black space fell away to reveal several familiar face occupying the grand hall.
Granny Smith looked around, “Wowie, ah knew this ceremony would be wild.”
Big Mac nodded in confusion, “Eeyup.”
Everypony took in their surroundings as Martin was tackled to the ground by a happy Applejack whom he embraced. He looked at Aequivalere who nodded, Martin stood up slowly as he approached the aspect of balance.
Martin looked around, “Did you?”
Aequivalere nodded, “Yes, after destroying Jinx I felt a surge.”
Martin raised an eyebrow, “Meaning?”
Aequivalere looked at Martin as he removed his hood to reveal his usual look was gone. The person staring back at him looked like Sortitus except he had black chrome irises. He also had straight parted shoulder length hair that was black with the streaks of celestial white.
Martin jumped, “What the?!”
Aequivalere took off his gloves, “When Jinx was destroyed, I inherited his power. Sortitus was next in line but since he is…”
Martin raised his hand, “I get the idea.”
Aequivalere looked around, “This is no proper place for a ceremony.”
The Aspect of Balance waved his hand and all of the castle and damage outside was repaired.
Aequivalere turned to leave, “I will repair Ponyville and return for the ceremony.”
Martin stopped him, “Where is Lupe?”
Aequivalere shook his head and spoke quietly, “She is beyond my reach…I am sorry.”
Martin nodded, “I understand.”
Aequivalere thought for a moment, “However there is one thing I could do for you.”
Martin looked at the aspect, “What’s that?”
Aequivalere smiled, “Since this is a momentous day in terms of you being knighted I shall grant you one request.”
Martin thought for a second then looked over at his friend, “I want to speak to…someone who knows of fate like Sortitus.”
Aequivalere nodded, “The Author then.”
Martin raised an eyebrow, “Huh?”
Both the Aspect and Martin vanished.
Martin stood beside The Aspect of Balance as he stared at the house before both of them. It seemed to be beige in colour and had a black door with a large living room window on the street side of the house along with the side which overlooked an alleyway. It also seemed to have a large lower floor which made up a basement suite. Martin looked at Aequivalere who nodded in assurance as Martin walked across the rain swept street toward the black painted homemade gate. Two stone lions that had been painted black with red eyes stared at the stranger as if saying that he didn’t belong here and was not permitted to enter. Martin thanked god that the cars of the occupants were gone because it would make it difficult to explain why he had arrived.
He was soon at the door and proceeded to knock and then waited for a response. Soon the door opened revealing a guy the same age as Martin; he had shaved dark brown hair and had a slightly youthful looking face. He also had dark brown eyes and wore black rimmed glasses with rectangular lenses and he was wearing black jogging pants with white vertical stripes going down each of the legs along with a light brown T-shirt with a skull on it.
The guy looked at Martin for a second with skepticism, “Yes?”
Martin inhaled, “Are you The Author?”
The guy backed up slightly as Martin noticed his hand tighten on the door frame, “I might be who’s asking?”
Martin managed to smile, “I’m Martin Fairgates and it’s nice to meet you.”
The Author just stared at Martin and laughed, “Yeah right! Listen I don’t know how you found me but I’m warning you now if you don’t leave I’ll call the police.”
Martin sighed, “I had a feeling you wouldn’t believe me, so I brought this…”
Martin handed the key to The Author who shook his head, “Nice replica.”
Martin then rolled up his sleeve to his shoulder to reveal a black scar which caused The Author to jump, “Holy shit”, he poked the scar and felt that it was real and it looked exactly the way he had imagined it, “Come in…I guess”.
Martin and Author then talked for hours about how everything The Author had written down had transpired in actuality.
Soon it was time for Martin to depart but he turned to looked at The Author, “I need to ask a question”
The Author nodded, “Sure what is it?”
Martin sighed, “Will me and AJ turn out-“
The Author stopped him, “Trust me when I say that if you continue the way you’re going now, you’ll both be just fine”
Martin looked at him, “You sure?”
The Author nodded, “Hell I should know, I just finished writing the last chapter of your Endgame”
Martin smiled at him, “Keep up the good work dude”
The Author saluted him as Martin left out the door.
Martin stopped in front of The Aspect of Balance, “Let’s go, I have a ceremony to get to.”
Martin kneeled before the princess along with Alan who was beside him along with the six.
Celestia finished her speech, “Therefore, before this royal congregation. I hereby dub thee, Knights of Equestria. May you all live a long and happy life.”
Martin walked to Applejack as he smiled, “I plan on it.”
Applejack smiled as Alan and Rainbow whooped with joy.
Martin looked to the back of the crowd and saw a stone Discord who looked like he was frozen by someone punching him. Beside the statue stood Phobos and Aequivalere, Martin’s eyes widened as he saw something odd. Beside both Aspect’s he saw the ghostly apparitions of Averius, Lupe, a more kind looking Jinx, and Sortitus who all smiled at him. Martin half smiled as The Aspects vanished but left the statue in its place. Martin and Alan looked at each other as the both raised their fists to the air as applause erupted in the room.
7 years later
The sun broke through the horizon as a new morning was ushered in. People on Earth were getting ready to go about their business as one individual awoke and put on a grey sweater with dark blue jeans and gold rimmed glasses. He looked in the mirror and ran a hand over his face at the layer of fuzz. The dark auburn hair on his head was long but managed as another shape stirred behind him.
Martin turned to look at a beautiful blonde haired woman who was dressing up in a house coat, “Sometimes I envy the fact that you ponies age slower than humans.”
AJ draped her arms in his shoulder, “Ye still look the same way the day I metcha.”
Martin plucked a white hair off his head, “Yeah right.”
AJ clutched Martins hand as two identical gold bands on their ring fingers touched, “You were shorter.”
Applejack playfully shoved him, “Says you.”
A knock was heard from down stairs as Applejack turned and left, “I’ll get it.”
Martin walked out and looked down into his living room to see a man with blond hair dressed in a business suit accompanied by a woman with long rainbow colored hair wearing a cyan leather jacket with matching track pants and white shoes.
Martin walked down the stairs as Rainbow Dash messed with her hair, “Hey Dash, any dyes working yet?”
Dash huffed in frustration as she revealed the red parts of her hair were cloud white, “No! It’s driving me crazy!”
Alan playfully rubbed her hair, “I think it looks sexy.”
Dash rolled her eyes, “You would.”
All of a sudden something rammed into Alan’s back legs, “Hey!”
Alan stepped aside to reveal a seven year old boy with black wild hair staring up with forest green eyes, “Dominic you almost knocked over your old man.”
Dominic was bouncing with excitement, “Sorry dad, I’m just so excited to go see Auntie Pinkie Pie.”
Alan looked at Dash, “He gets this from you.”
Dash bopped him on the head as Alan turned to the sound of Applejack clearing her throat. Stepping out from behind her mother was a six year old girl dressed in a white shirt and blue pants. She had natural dark red hair and dark blue eyes.
Martin knelt down to eye level, “Morning Mary.”
Mary smiled, “Morning daddy.”
Martin tilted his head, “You okay?”
Mary nodded as she threaded her fingers nervously, “I’m just nervous…”
Martin smiled, “Mariam Lupe Fairbridges, you have nothing to worry about. You are the daughter of two of the bravest beings in the world, you’ll do fine.”
Mary smiled, “okay.”
Applejack looked at Martin’s sweater, “You know you don’t have to wear that every time we go to the reunion.”
Martin nodded, “I know but Granny put so much time and effort into it it’s sort of a tradition now.”
Alan then quickly added, “Even though it itches like a mother-“
Dash smacked him, “Hush your mouth.”
Martin produced the key as he opened the bridge into a crowded field and smacked right into a post, “Ow.”
Dash and AJ reverted back to their pony forms upon stepping through. Both AJ and Rainbow were slightly taller and their manes were longer as well and the red in Rainbow’s mane and tail had returned much to her delight.
Mary stood there as the Apple family welcomed them upon their arrival.
Braeburn smiled down at Mary, “Well hiya Mary, boy you’re getting bigger every day! Ah reckon you’ll be as tall as yer pa in no time.”
Mary smiled as Dominic sped up to her in a blur, “she wishes.”
Mary narrowed her eyes as Dominic flicked her on the nose and sped off with Mary in hot pursuit. Martin and Alan looked after their children with happiness as they ran into the orchard to play.
