Authors note; I know this chapter is EXTREMELY Short, but its only for a quick example of how this Fanfic will go, the next few chapters will hopefully be MUCH longer. Oh, and did you know that You need at least one thousand words per chapter? Well that's something I'll fall short of by one, or two, or twenty-three.
"Get on with it, I've been standing here waiting for my story for ages!"
Right, of course, sorry Scarf, but for now, I leave you with a words of wisdom;
"Though viewed as small and weak, even the greatest of creatures fear the mouse. The elephants make way, giving it a wide girth, the lion respects it for freeing it from the net, and lest it ruin his day does the man fret." -Made up on the spot, VulpiBard.

Hidden Scarf stood in the shadow of a pillar, casually sweeping his eyes over the scene before him, stopping only for a second on his prey before moving on. He had been sent with a challenge to lift the first draft of the latest Daring Doo book, signed by the author and archaeologist herself. Granted it was a small task, not really worth much, but the only real reason he was doing this was to "get familiar with the style and personalities of ponyville and its inhabitants."or so said his current commander from Equestria's thieves' guild. But he could dwell more on that later, now he needed to focus.
His current setting was the town hall, this years ERU-Con (Enthusiastic Readers United, gag) was being held there. The target was approximately thirty meters ahead at an angle of forty-six degrees to the right. Escape routes included, of course, the front and back doors, as well as an official entrance for speeches and such, but the latter was likely under heavy guard and the guards at the front were checking bags and costumes for anything dangerous, but would just as quickly confiscate any stolen items as well.
There were no guards inside the 'con (courtesy of the peaceful times they lived in,) but there were hundreds of witnesses, one of which kept complimenting Scarf on his "Ring Wrath" costume, whatever that was. He was wearing a black hood and lower face mask, as he always did when on a mission, in order to keep people from knowing who he was. This still wasn't all of his worries. there happened to be a pair of mares to his left, a unicorn and pegasus, staring at the book intently, the winged one even drooling a bit. Scarf chuckled inwardly. Quite the mission you've given me, Mischief.
The dark furred earth pony stepped out from the shadows, it would have to be the back door, he already knew how to get the book, and it was likely the path of least resistance. Trotting over to a group of ponies fanfillying over a stand of books, he checked the authors name.
"Hey, is that Jr. R Token?" Hidden Scarf asked, pointing across the room at a random pony. As planned, the ponies galloped across the room to see for themselves. He followed, but stopped midway when he was between the target and its admirers to look up as if his name had been called. Turning around and picking up the book in one gracefully disguised action, he looked out over the crowd for the imaginary pony, then, pretending to find them, walked off in that direction.
Hearing the shouts of alarm behind him, he used the constantly shifting crowd to disappear amongst all the other masked figures, hastening toward the rear exit, He was home free! Or not. As he exited the building he came face to face with a large red earth pony.
"Er, hi!" Scarf said cheerily. The stallion didn't react, "got a bit crowded in there, so I came out for some fresh air." He lied, thinking quickly. The stallion maintained his expressionless silence. then;
"Eeyup." They stood like that for what felt like hours, Hidden Scarf sweating gallons under his cloak and mask, hoping that the stallion wouldn't notice the bulge in his saddle bag, or that he would think it part of the "costume." The stallion merely stood there, staring blankly forward. After a while, Scarf began walking down the alley.
"I think its getting late." He said, mentally kicking himself for talking so much. fortunately he was still using his magical voice changer, otherwise he would be quieter than big red, who was still staring blankly at him. "I should get home, I have a busy day tomorrow." and with that, he took of jogging down the street.

"So, Scarf, congratulations on your first mission." the playful voice of Ponyville’s guild leader, Mischief Master came. "I think your ready for a permanent position in our little corner of Equestria." The master was sitting behind a large, finely carved wooden desk, and a pair of wings could be seen silhouetted against the back wall. There was much speculation on whether those were his and he was an earth pony, or they were planted to make sure his identity was kept hidden. Even in Canterlot, where only the best thieves worked, there were widespread rumors of Mischief, none of which were ever based on a solid source.
"Thank you, Master." Hidden Scarf bowed his head in respect to the shadowed form.
A wide, white toothed grin could be seen through the darkness. Canines, the leader was truly a mystery.
"Oh please, my name sounds so formal, I really should get it changed. But for now, you're dismissed."
"If I may, why did we need to steal such a worthless Item?"
"IT ISN'T WORTHLESS!" The outburst hardly startled the seasoned thief, Mischief was known for his strange habits and actions. "It’s a priceless work of true literature, no one rights books as well as...” The master stopped abruptly, then made a rather phony coughing sound. “Ahem, I meant to say, we needed to announce the guilds presence in Ponyville, let them know they're being watched, the book itself is of little consequence, it will turn up again in a few days." Master tossed the book onto a nearby shelf.
"You were planning to read it, weren't you?" Scarf asked.
"Well of course." Mischief said with another grin. "It would be a shame to let such an opportunity go to waste." Scarf rolled his eyes, luckily the guild leader was also known for his leniency. "You may go now, I hear you moving to a new home, congratulations!" Hidden Scarf face-hooved.
"Sir, you already knew I moved, and why, don't try to pretend." He said, getting up and leaving.

"Hee hee, the ponies are so interesting, I wonder what we can get them to do next?"
"Quite, we're not doing this for entertainment, we have a goal"
"Oh please, you and your goals, complete fun ruiners they are."
"Both of you hush, we need to make sure that things settle safely, if everything is blown too soon, centuries of preparation will be for naught."
