4: The Horror of Cupcakes

"Let’s not read this one," Rainbow invites.

"No, I like this chapter. You will read it and enjoy it too!" Pinkie stops any other pre - chapter reading.

"Whaa – what parasprite?" Rainbow Dash answered. She tried changing the subject, "Ca - can I get some milk?"

"No milk until you tell me where it is." Pinkie Pie’s glare was uncharacteristic of her normal happy-peppy self. Was everypony turning into chaotic alter egos? Pinkie turned to inspect her hoof, nonchalantly, "Ever read the story Cupcakes?" She slammed her hoof into the counter separating her and Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash’s eyes grew wider in fear as Pinkie pulled a brown cupcake with dark purple icing out from underneath the counter. Yes, Rainbow Dash had read Cupcakes. And the pain she experienced while reading it returned as she imagined herself having her wings cut off and the knife being jabbed into...

...(Wait, this is supposed to stay kid safe)...

...the...

...cake....

"Please, no! Her name is Navi, and she’s staying overnight at Fluttershy’s house! She’s not a parasprite, she a woodland fairy from Hyrule, or something! Please don’t hurt me!"

The confession was over in under 5 seconds, bringing this tough rainbow-maned pegasus down into tears on the floor in front of a rather surprised Pinkie. (Luckily for Rainbow Dash, the store was empty except for the two of them.) The cupcake was not poisoned, it was the bribe she was going to use in case treats didn’t work. Pinkie had quit reading Cupcakes as soon as it described her basement, too disgusted by her own cutie mark attire to continue.

"Thank you?" Pinkie wondered what Cupcakes said if it could bring Rainbow Dash to tears. Maybe she would finish reading it once this Navi parasprite situation was taken care of.

She left for Rarity’s house to gather the instruments, leaving Rainbow Dash sprawling on the floor crying out of fear and resentment. Maybe she shouldn’t read Cupcakes, if it can do...that...out of mention of the horror story’s name. She sighed as she crossed the dimly lit street toward the boutique.

Rarity’s house was locked, unfortunately due to it being about 7:30, and near winter, where Luna gets more moon-time. So instead Pinkie went back to Sugarcube Corner to close up shop. Rainbow Dash was still crying on the floor.

“Dashie, it was just a story!”

Rainbow snuffed up her tears and stood up, “I guess you’re right, *sniffle*, could you mind not mentioning this to the rest of the gang?”

Pinkie rolled her eyes. She was getting tired of this. “Fine,” she lied, “I won’t tell anypony.”

“Pinkie promise?” Dash confirmed.

Pinkie gulped. She was trapped. She did the motions, “Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye. Now, get out,” once again, completely losing her personality,”I need to close up shop.”

Rainbow Dash cleaned up her tears before walking out the door. Wouldn’t want my reputation to be ruined, she thought to herself before flying out to her house.

“What have I just done?” she scolded herself, then sighed, “Well, I might as well wait and see tomorrow.” She flew to her house of clouds to sleep the night away.

Ba ba ba-da ba ba ba ba ba-da-da da-da-da

Rainbow Dash awoke to the melody she knew as the parasprite polka. It was afternoon, but with all of the work she put in yesterday, she was allowed to sleep in as late as she wanted to. Glancing out her window she saw Pinkie heading down the path from Ponyville to the Everfree forest toward Fluttershy’s house. Why is Pinkie so assertive?

She bolted out her door towards the crazy mare, hoping to catch her before she reached the cottage. She started walking in the 2 inches of snow to convince Pinkie to stop.

Pinkie stopped midstride, the tuba losing its pitch as her lips failed to support her embouchure. Not due to Rainbow’s persistence, the sight Pinkie and Rainbow Dash just saw caused all loss of control in their legs.

Earlier that day…

“Hey! Listen! Fluttershy! Time to wake up!”

Fluttershy sleepily opened her eyes. She turned in her bed and moaned. “Now? Can’t it wait till later?” she sounded almost like Rarity.

Navi did the Sun song with her fairy music. Somehow, it seemed to effect the animals outside to be more awake. Which was bad, seeing as they were supposed to be hibernating. It also woke Fluttershy up, so she guessed it did its purpose.

Fluttershy got out of bed and glared at Navi. There was not even a hint of sympathy, kindness, or even forgiveness in the glare, completely uncharacteristic of her. She shuffled over to the door and opened it to find a wooden box, about the size of her doorstep leaning against her mailbox, half-covered with snow.

“Oh, my! I better get this out of the snow,” the shy, friendly character of Fluttershy returning.

She rushed out and picked up the box. It was much lighter than she thought. Maybe it was a new table! She carted it inside and rushed back out to comfort the awakened animals.

It took all morning to set all the animals back to sleep. It was early afternoon by the time she finally got inside to inspect her new package.

She opened the cover to find a plank of…metal?...someone had molded into the shape of a purple heart. There were spines protruding from various places on the sides, one on each rounded portion of the heart, and four on each side on the bottom half. There were two brightly painted eyes that seemed to follow Fluttershy no matter which way she turned it.

“Listen! That’s a mask!” Navi explained. “You put it on your face!”

I must explain here that Navi was not in the game Majora’s Mask; therefore she would have no recollection of the evil mask, or any of that. In fact, Navi NOT being there was the entire point of the game. Also, according to the Majora’s Mask manga, the mask was crafted from the armor of an invincible beast, meaning it seemed like metal.

Fluttershy hovered towards the two terrified ponies, obviously possessed by whatever was on her face.

The mask, obviously not Fluttershy, laughed, “Is the power of Majora too much for you?” it asked as the mask started shaking. As Pinkie and Rainbow looked at it, they could not take their eyes off of it as the background behind it turned into a swirling mass of purple and yellow. They were knocked unconscious as the transformation began.
