Chapter 1

I have been looking. For years and years I have been looking. Every second of my being sober, which really isn’t very long for I seem to get consumed in my depression and I succumb to drinking. I look for the only one who gives me happiness, or used to anyway. After he was taken, or killed, or in an accident, I really have no idea. All I know is he is gone and my spirit seems to have gone with him. On a Saturday, or was it a Monday? Since I lost him I seem to have lost everything else. On a certain date, which I don’t seem to remember, he never came home. I thought he was late or kept back at music class but I was wrong, so, so wrong. I waited for days. My time being sober shortening every day he was gone. Weeks, months, I think it has almost been a year. The police have given up and they concluded he was in a tragic accident but I know that is not true. He is still out there. And I am going to find him.

“Hey Berry Punch!” Derpy Hooves seems to enjoy making me lose my train of thought.

“What is it Derpy?” I ask annoyed.

“What are you drinkin’? Oh wait, we all know. Booze. I think we should have a talk to you about that.”

“We?”

“Yeah! Me, Lyra, Bon Bon, and… and… Oh right! Lyra!” Derpy. The only pony I can think of who is dumber than I am when I am completely intoxicated.

“Derpy, you already said Lyra and I don’t need any talking to thank you very much. I am perfectly happy the way I am.”

“Are you sure because you seem to be very depressed and your drinking increased once Noteworthy left.” Bon Bon steps in.

“Yeah is that why your so drinkie?!” Derpy adds.

“Listen, I enjoy the fact that you care about me but I really don’t need nurturing right now. What I need is Noteworthy back. And we all know that won’t be happening soon so leave me to my liquor.” I am very irritated at the lack of drink in my hoof.

“Come on Bon Bon,” Says Lyra, “she is no use. We have been trying for months now, she won’t quit until Noteworthy is back” I sigh, looking across to my home stashed with alcohol, longing for my pain to go away. Lyra and Bon Bon leave and Derpy follows with a confused look on her face, as always. I am sick and tired of ponies trying to cheer me up. I haven’t been happy since the last day he was here, with me. I finally, after battling with my will power and losing, go home for a drink. As I open the door, I notice something. A small array of bloody cupcakes. With a note saying…

To Berry Punch,

Hello! It’s me, Pinkie Pie! I have been waiting a long time for your stupid brain to comprehend what has happened to your ‘true love’ but of course, your drunken little head of yours hasn’t figured it out. He is still alive if you have been wearing a dent in your floor pacing. Now, I want to have some fun. I have him, alive, in a trapped place that could be anywhere in Equestria. I have been taking small pieces of him and turning him in to cupcakes. Those nice warm batches on the table are some of them. I need ingredients you know! He can’t feel any of the… tearing off because I have kind of immortalized him. The reason I let him live is well, I decide to give a chance for a happily ever after. As well as have some fun! If you truly love this Noteworthy. Come find him! Oh, by the way, you have five days to find him!

Love, Pinkie Pie.

P.S. Tell anyone about our little game and he dies.

I let the note flutter to the ground as I slump in to my worn chair. Am I intoxicated or is this real? Should I alert the police? Is this the real Pinkie Pie? Those are just a sample of the questions running through my head. The Pinkie Pie I have heard of is fun loving and is crazy for parties. Not a savage murderer.

Well, I pack my bags tonight I guess. I can’t give up. I will start in Pony Ville and move on to the nearest city, Phillydalphia. Unless, of course, I find him before that.

I walk down the dusty streets of Pony Ville as the others pass me without even noticing I am carrying a large secret on my back. My first stop, Sugar Cube corner. I heard that Pinkie Pie practically lives there. I walk in and the bell on the door rings, Mr. and Mrs. Cake jump up from behind the counter. As they see me their faces fall into a worried and anxious look.

“Well,” Mr. Cake says “hello Berry, didn’t, uh, didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Oh, hi… I was looking for… Pinkie? Pinkie Pie? Is she here?” I say as I attempt to peek over the counter but Mrs. Cake blocks my view.

“Oh sorry Pumpkin” Mrs. Cake says looking horrified “She is out on a…”

“Business trip!” Mr. Cake finishes

“Yes a business trip!”

“Uh-huh… Well, uh, may I have some… tarts?”

“Sure sweetie.” Good that got rid of Mrs. Cake. Now for Mr. Cake.

“And… may I have some…cookies? From the back?

“Sure thing hun,” Mr. Cake says, his eyes never leaving mine. “Hun, will you grab some cookies?”

“Sure thing!”

Drat! They are on too me. My soberness is starting to get on my nerves and I begin to lose my sanity standing there like a moron when clearly they know something I don’t about the disappearance of Noteworthy. What can I do! I see the glistening of a knife on the counter just in my reach. I also see a video camera pointed directly at me. I now know what to do. I do an incredible jump kick I learned when I was just a filly to smash the camera, I grab the knife, close the curtains, turn the open sign to a closed one and lock the door. I point the knife at Mr. Cake and say,

“Get your wife out from the back with her and your hooves up.”

The look on his face is heartbreaking for I have never done anything like this, as I was sober.

“uh, honey! Come over here for a minute!”

“yes, dear! I am here, what do you-” She stops mid-sentence and stares at the knife.

“Oh honey, you don’t need to do-”

“I believe I do,” I interrupt “Stop treating me like an idiot. What do you know about Noteworthy, why haven’t you told the police and how long have you known?”

They stagger back in horror. I feel horrible for what I am doing, I start to think that I should just drop the knife but then Mr. Cake starts to speak.

“I will tell you just don’t hurt us! We still have our children too look after! What will they do if we die?”

“I won’t kill you unless you refuse to speak.”

“Okay! I will tell you, just… don’t tell Pinkamina about this!” Mr. Cake says.

“Speak.” I say as I point the knife, which is trembling, at the chair for him to sit. He sits down and begins to speak.

“Well, she told us to never tell anybody or she will kill us. She was just leaving to go on a ‘business’ trip when we asked her where she was going. She said it didn’t matter, but, being her boss’ we had to know. She told us she had someone too play a game with down in Canterlot. We asked her who she was playing the game with and she said you and Noteworthy. She told us nothing else. What is this… game?” I sit down and press on my head with my shaky hooves and look up at his questioning face.

“She… She took Noteworthy… To… Canterlot?”

“Well, she said something about Canterlot.”

“Oh. Well… I can’t tell you about the game, I wish I could but… I’m sorry I-I have to go.” I stumble out of the sweets shop, letting the knife clatter to the ground, looking for a place to drink. I think of home. But I know I can’t be drunk, or else I will never find Noteworthy.

Finally, I get in the front of the line to order tickets.

“Yes,” Says the pony with a very nasally voice. “How may I help you?”

“Yes, hello, one train ticket to Canterlot please”

“I’m sorry all sold out. NEXT!”

“Ma’am, you don’t understand. I need this ticket!”

“I’m sorry miss, we have no tickets for you today. Tickets to Canterlot are very hard to come by, the royal wedding and all…”

“Ugh!” I groan as I leave the stand.

“Hello,” An old pony says with a very creepy, croaky voice. “I heard you need some tickets to uh… Canterlot?”

“Yes, what’s it to you?”

“Well ya see, I got a lose ticket to Canterlot, I could uh, maybe, sell it to ya… fir a price…” He says looking me up and down.

“What do you want?” I say backing slowly up against the brick wall of the ticket booth.

“I think you know.”

“Never, just get away from me, creep! Security!” He starts walking towards me and I press my back up to the wall. Just before he grabs me, the security guard pulls him back.

“I wont ferget this! I will find ya!” What has just happened? He did say he had a lose ticket to Canterlot…

“Sir,” I say stepping towards the guard.  “I- um, he stole my ticket to Canterlot!”

“Okay ma’am,” the guard says reaching into the pony’s coat, pulling out a crisp, fresh and real ticket to Canterlot.

“Thank you sir! You, you don’t know what this means to me!”

“Just doing my job miss.” I nod at him, ignoring the creepy colt in his strong grasp, and run as fast as my hooves can go the station. I just make the train.

As the train starts moving, I look out the window and see the strange colt struggling. And then, the unthinkable happens. He breaks out of the policecolts hooves and escapes. I gasp as I see the unconscious police colt lying on the ground and the weird one running towards the slowly moving train angrily. Thankfully the train starts to move faster and I escape. I slump against my seat and sigh. It’s almost over. I know he is in Canterlot as a fact, and I will find him. No matter what.

I arrive in Canterlot the next day, exhausted because I was unable to sleep. I don’t know where to start… I am on my last day, so I must find him fast. As I start walking I see an unknown colt holding up a sign that says ‘ride for Berry Punch’ is it a trap? I do not know but if I want to find Noteworthy, I must go with him. He looks me up and down and spits out the hay in his mouth. But, before he can even tell me his name, the colt from the station steps in front of me with a clean knife.

“Hey, remember me? You almost got me arrested you know? You also owe me that ‘price’ I asked for for the ticket.”

“You know the answer creep! Just, get away from me!”

“I don’t think so” He lunges at me and I use my remaining strength that wasn’t taken away by the five drinks I had on the train. But he ends up slamming me against the wall knocking me out.

I finally wake up half an hour later but instead of being beaten, I am fine. A little dazed and dizzy, but fine. To my right, I see a mortified crowed but when I look to my left, I see the creepy colt… dead and still bleeding.

“You Berry what’s her face?” It’s the colt from befor that was supposed to give me the ride to my doom.

“Yeah… are you my ride?”

“Yup, git in.” He shoves me in his car and we drive away.

“Uh… what’s your name?” I ask, trying to make conversation.

“that info aint needed. I’m just a ride for miss pinkie… I got kind of a deal with the devil.”

“She has done this to more than one pony? Do you know anypony else who this has happened to?”

“That’s a big fat no. And whenever I tell someone my moms alive, they try and sign me up fer some psychiatry or 12 step program thing.” We both stay quiet for the next hour and a half. We finally arrive at a mysterious abandoned bakery titled ‘Smile factory’

“So, this is my stop…?” I slowly step out of the car but before I am out of earshot, I hear him speak.

“yip, I ‘member when I was dropped off here… t’was horrible. I arrived and Pinkie welcomed me in and-” before he could finish, his car starts racing towards the intersection and crashes in to other cars. All I can do is watch. The colt I just met and probably saved my life is dead and I never even knew his name. What caused him to race in to the intersection? Was it even his fault? Before I can ask more questions I see Pinkie’s hoof reaching through the shattered glass and grab me by the mane. I struggle but her strength overwhelms me. I shatter through what left of the glass there was and am thrown on to the table.

“You ready for death?” Pinkie says with the knife pointed at my throat, grinning.

“Wait! You said if I found you, you would let me and Noteworthy go!”

“Well, I don’t remember saying such a thing? Anyway, if you want to see him before you die, go ahead. He is in the back.” I race in to the other room and what I see, is horrifying. She wasn’t lying when she said she ‘froze’ him. The room is freezing and right in the centre, a giant hunk of ice with a colt in it. Noteworthy. I claw at the ice, screaming and crying. Then I feel very cold. And finally, the pain kicks in. She has stabbed me and begun to freeze me. This really is the end.

She never ended up killing me. But I am stuck here frozen, until I run out of places she can cut off and bake. At least I am right next to the one I love, and I will be for all eternity. Noteworthy.
