Shadow Wolf watched as the sun rose, it was his birthday today. His parents told him to meet them in the throne room, he was also told that Celestia wanted to see him in the throne room. He walked to the throne room with happy birthday being said to him by the guards, when he reached the doors of the throne room, Shining Armor came running up to him.
"Hey Shadow Wolf! I'm Shining Armor, Twilight's older brother."
"Captain in training right?"
"Yup. Let's go in."
The two went inside and the room was filled with balloons and presents, Shadow Wolf got confused, shouldn't they have this somewhere else? Once he reached the throne, there was a note sitting on the Princess's throne.
Dear Shadow Wolf,
As you know today is your birthday. It is also the same day, I banish Nightmare moon to the moon.
I want you to look out the window, once you do, go to the room where you showed me and twilight
spell you worked on. You should find your gift from me there.
From your teacher Princess Celestia.
Shadow Wolf looked around to find Shining Armor, but didn't see him anywhere. He walked to the doors and went to the room, he didn't get it. Why did Celestia want him to go the room with the moon doors? He didn't even know what the room was called or who owned it.
It only took him about 30 minutes to get there, he found that the doors were opened. Who opened them? Did Celestia open them? Or did someone else. Before he stepped in, another stallion came running up to him. But this time, it wasn't Shining Armor.
"Hello, I'm Twilight's father, Night Light."
"Hello. I'm Shadow Wolf."
"Well, let's go in."
Why did every pony suddenly have to go with in? Shadow Wolf knew they were just going to leave without him hearing or knowing they were leaving, so why bother? Walking in the room left uneasy somehow, right on a table was a note. Great another note. Was this his gift from his teacher? If it was, it was so lame and idiotic. Yet this time, it wasn't from Celestia, it was from his own mother.
Dear Shadow Wolf,
As you may know, the princess told you that your gift was in this room,
Don't be hurt if you can't find it right away. It is in the room. But hidden.
Think dear, what's the one place you know the most about the room?
Once you know, go look there.
Love, mom or mommy.
Shadow thought about what the note said, then he remembered. The place where he got he's cutie mark!
Twilight ran though out the castle placing notes in every room Shadow Wolf would have to go into. As she placed the last note, she heard hoof steps coming in her direction. She fasten her paste and headed towards the throne room, where she found her family and Shadow Wolf's family. They weren't talking to each other at all.
"Alright," Twilight began," the notes are placed. I heard hoof steps when I placed the last note."
"He must be close." Shining said with a happy tone.
"He finds things very fast."
"That's why he's our son, right Flower Shine?"
"Right Morning Night."
After a while of waiting, the throne room doors opened, and walking though was a young colt. Once he was in the middle of the throne room, every pony yelled surprised.
"You guys didn't have to." Shadow said.
"It's something we needed to do son."
"Here." Twilight said to Shadow Wolf.
When Shadow opened the present, he was shocked. It was a guard helmet, just like the one his father had but it was a night guard helmet. He looked at every pony, his family, Twilight's family, and some of his friends he made at the school. He saw his father nod and smile.
"Once your old enough son, you can join the night guard team."
"Really? I thought you'd want me to join the day guard team."
His father laughed, his laugh was cut short when the princess came along. Her smile was bright like always, but she had something to give the young colt.
"I keep on seeing you looking at the moon, so I had a friend make you this." Princess Celestia said."
The present was a figure of the moon. Shadow Wolf smiled and hugged Celestia and started to look back and forth at the helmet and the figure, he knew that he could join the day team but the night team was always like a dream to him. This was the best birthday ever.
After a while, Twilight and Shadow saw their families talking about something. Until they knew that their families were going to be friends for a long time.
"I have to say Night Light, your son is a great listener. He'll be a great captain."
"Thanks Morning Night."
"Flower Shine, could you help me with some of my flowers sometime?"
"I would love to Twilight Velvet."
For the whole night, Shadow Wolf was looking at his helmet. Once he even felt a little sad that he couldn't meet Nightmare Moon in pony, but he knew that it would be sometime before she could be free. He was wiling to wait to meet Nightmare Moon.
When Shadow Wolf was sleeping, his parents were talking about something. Something like....making sure he doesn't betray Celestia or something.
"I'm telling you Flower, what if he does betray her?"
"Morning, I don't think he would. I mean, he's her first student! There's just no way he could betray her."
"What if he does?"
"If he betrays her than there's nothing that can be done! Not even being reformed. It's his choice to betray her or not."
"I hope he doesn't. Celestia's too important to betray."
"He might not think that though. He's different than most ponies, and you know that."
'Wish I didn't know that though.'
Would Shadow Wolf actually betray Celestia like that? Or would he betray Nightmare Moon? After all, he had many friends already. What would he need more than that? The victory of Nightmare Moon?
