Bad Romance

Chapter 1

The show had gone perfect, the after party; fantastic, and the autographing session had been one of the most calm and orderly in months. But yet, the yellow mare still felt empty, as if she was missing something.

Spitfire sighed and collapsed onto a plush king-sized bed burying her face in fluffy cream-colored pillow. Flipping onto her back, she gazed around the huge master suite, one of five others that were currently being occupied by each or her fellow Wonderbolts.

Upon arriving at the hotel after their most recent show, the hotel manager had been so overjoyed that celebrities such as the Wonderbolts were staying at his hotel, that he officered each of the Bolts a master suite. The famous stunt-performing ponies had a whole floor of the hotel to themselves.

The walls of each room were a deep magenta, the carpet; the color of sand. Expensive-looking lamps were in every corner of the rooms casting colorful shapes in all directions. Adjacent to the king-sized bed was a full body mirror that opened into a walk-in closet. On the ceiling, a huge sparkling chandelier, shimmered with hundreds of dancing flames as it rotated slowly,

The light yellow mare sighed again, closing her eyes to one of the nicest hotel suits her group had ever resided in. Although the room had been designed to be calm and comforting, Spitfire couldn’t help but feel restless.

These feelings had been plaguing her for months. Every show the Bolts did, every after party she attended, and every amazing hotel room she slept in left her feeling more and more empty.
It was the strangest feeling, something she couldn’t quite put her hoof on. It began in her chest, warm and soft at first, it would then make its way around her body. She tossed onto her stomach, burying her face into the pillow once again.

An image formed in her mind. The scene was in Cloudsdale, in front of a beautiful white cloud home. Outside the house two fillies, one colt and one mare, played. They shouted and laughed and wrestled, racing one another around the house.

“I’m gonna beat you Spitfire!” the light blue colt yelled as he soared past the filly.

“The hay you are!” Spitfire called back as she raced to catch up with the colt.

Before either of them could reach the finish line, an opening between two clouds, the colt cried out “Gotcha!” and tacked his yellow opponent, causing them to crash-land into the nearest cloud.

The yellow mare quickly leapt back onto her hooves and pushed the colt in the chest. “Soarin!” she whined, “I was just about to beat you, yah big dummy!”

Soarin grinned, trying to stand up. “Aw come on Spit, I think we both know who was going to win!”

Spitfire pushed him back down, “yeah, me of course!”

“Oh shut up Spitfire, future Wonderbolt!” Soarin chuckled sarcastically.

She glared at him and the colt quickly grabbed her hoof and pulled her down on top of him. Then they both erupted into a fit of uncontrollable giggles.

The dream vanished, and with it, so did the feeling of warmth that had formed throughout the mare’s body. She glanced at the clock. 1:40.

She hopped up off the bed and stretched out her strong wings. Tossing her Wonderbolts uniform to the side with a careless hoof, she made her way to the door.

She trotted quietly over to the refrigerator, grabbing water and guzzling it down in record time.
Without thinking she began walking. Half asleep and half awake she stopped at the door to Soarin’s room. She raised a hoof as if to push the door open. For a moment the yellow mare stayed there, frozen. Suddenly she backed away, shaking her messy, flame colored mane as she did so.

“What the hay am I doing” She whispered to the silence, and darted for the nearest window. She and pushed it open and leaped onto the balcony.

Taking off into the cool night sky, Spitfire shook her head once again, pushing any thoughts of her best friend out of her mind.

After about fifteen minutes of meaningless flight, it became apparent to her that clearing her head was not going to be an option.

Not knowing where to land, she took off into a random direction, in search of the nearest club.
