//------------------------------// // New found family // Story: Disowned // by littlebrony //------------------------------// The days all seemed to be running together now. Charm had lost track of how long she had been in the bed. All she knew is that she could not take much more of it. Every attempt she had made at getting out of the bed on her own, Had been met with Apple Jack scalding her. “Now don’t you fret youngin, you will be up and about in no time.” Apple Jack said every time she started to get restless. She had found a sense of comfort would come, when Fluttershy would come up for her daily visits. It felt nice to be held, and snuggle up to her warm chest and listen to Fluttershy’s heart beat. Something she never got to do with her actual mother. Apple Bloom had brought her a newspaper up a few days ago. The paper contained a article on her parents. It stated that her mother and father were both imprisoned for foal abuse and neglect. Also they were awaiting a trial that Princess Celestia was going to oversee her self. Thinking of the events that happened that night would always make her body ache. Babs on the other hoof was also still bedridden. Her injuries far greater than Charm’s. Apple Bloom and Big Mac had been up to visit her. They told Charm that she was still in rough shape, but was in good spirits knowing her best friend was safe. Also told her, that she would be coming down to see her as soon as she was released from the hospital. Charm couldn't help but feel as though she was responsible for what happened to Bab’s. In a roundabout way she kinda was, she thought. She was about to start crying again, when she heard hoof steps coming up the stairs. She quickly wiped the wetness from her eyes and stared at the door. Apple Bloom came through the door with a big smile plastered on her face. Followed by Apple Jack. “I got a surprise for ya Charm” Apple Jack said, then motioned to Apple Bloom. Apple Bloom then jumped up onto the bed and grabbed the sheets in her mouth and yanked them off Charm. “ You're getting out of bed today.” She yelled while a Big Bang and a cloud of confetti come bursting through the door. Scaring the life out of every pony. “Getting out of bed party!!!” A pink pony with a big pink fluffy mane yelled, as she came running into the room. “Pinkie Pie, what in tarnation are you doing?” Apple Jack yelled. Pinkie Pie took in a large breath of air. “Well I am here to throw Charm a getting out of bed party, cause she has been stuck in bed for sooooo long and has been soooo bored. That she was starting to get sad. And I am really good at making sad ponies happy. So I thought what better way to make her happy, than to throw her a getting out of bed party. Since I have never did one of those before.” All of them just stared at Pinkie. Then Apple Jack spoke up. “Just how did you know that she was getting out of bed today?” Asked Apple Jack with a confused look on her face. Knowing she didn't mention this to Pinkie Pie for this exact reason. “Just a hunch.” She replied while bouncing around the room. Apple Jack slammed her hoof onto her face. “Pinkie there will be no party today. Charm here, is not ready for that yet.” Pinkie stopped while still in the air, her hair went flat and she slowly drifted back to the ground. “Oh ok Apple Jack I won't throw a party.” She said as she turned towards the door with her ears laid back and her head down. Apple Jack sighed. “Ok Pinkie you can throw her a party next week.” Pinkies hair suddenly popped back into shape, and she let out a excited yell. “Okie Dokie Lokie, I will throw her the best getting out of bed party ever.” Said Pinkie as she walked out of the room humming a tune. “I swear that pony always shows up and the strangest times.” Said Apple Jack with a chuckle while rolling her eyes. “Ok then, how about we get you out of that bed and onto your own hooves.” Said Apple Jack with a smile. Charm looked at Apple Bloom. “Sounds like fun, but Apple Bloom could you get off my tail first?” Apple Bloom quickly jumped back and scratched her head. “Hehe. Sorry about that.” She said with a slight blush. Charm sat up in her bed and started inching towards the edge of the bed. She felt so excited to finally be able to leave this bed. But she was also kinda nervous. It had been weeks since she had really set hoof on solid ground. Other than the times she was took to the bathroom by Apple Jack to do her buisness and take a bath. And then she was practically carried there. So she was not sure how her legs would hold up order her. Apple Jack moved to one side of her while Apple Bloom got the other side. Charm decided it would be best if she backed off, instead of going forward. “I would rather fall on my rump than my face.” She thought to herself. Apple Jack watched as Charm lowered her back legs towards the ground. Standing ready just in case she had to catch Charm. Her hooves touched ground and she slowly let her weight come down oh them. She found herself a bit unstable, But Apple Jack was quick to lend a hoof. She stayed like that for a moment until she felt she had her bearings again. Slowly she started bringing her front hooves towards the ground. Apple Jack had placed her leg under her to help support her weight. Once both hooves were on the ground she stood there. Her legs were unsteady, and shaking a bit. Her breathing got heavy. She was afraid her legs would give at any moment. Apple Bloom took notice of this and decided she needed to get her attention away from her legs. “So Charm what is the first thing you want to do to try to get your cutie mark?” Apple Bloom asked. Charm looked over at Apple Bloom. “I don’t know. I have never really been good at anything.” Charm said as her ears lowered. “Well then, I guess I will have to help you.” Apple Bloom said with a big smile. “Apple Bloom I don’t think now is the time for th……..” Apple Jack was cut off by Charm quickly turning to face Apple Bloom. “Really!!! You would help me find something I am good at” Charm said. Forgetting that she was scared to death just a few seconds prior. “Why of course I would Charm. What are friends for?” Charm started to tear up then quickly lept to give Apple Bloom a hug. “Thank you thank you thank you.” Charm said cheerfully while hugging Apple Bloom. Apple Jack just stood there with her mouth open, only to see Apple Bloom give a wink. “Well I guess that was all she needed.” Apple Jack thought to herself, while giving a slight chuckle. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. The day continued on with Apple Jack and Apple Bloom helping charm out around the house. Making sure that she could get around on her own. The only issue she had was getting down the stairs. “Okay Charm just one hoof in front of the other. Don’t worry we won't let you fall.” Said Apple Jack as she was using her body to brace Charm. The few weeks in bed had took it toll on her leg muscles. They were weak and wobbly. Apple Jack would be sure to fix that with some chores around the farm. But that could wait a few more days. At least till Charm could get up and down the stairs on her own. The sun was getting low in the sky, and Charm and Apple Bloom was sitting on the porch of the farmhouse. You could hear the birds off in the distance singing, and the crickets were starting to chirp. This was the first time she has been outside to hear it since she arrived here. She sat there with a relaxed smile on her face. This was something that she couldn't enjoy back in the city. The thoughts of the city brought terrible memories flooding back into her mind. She could still hear. The cries of Babs as she got beat by her dad. She felt a small tear roll down her cheek. Apple Bloom was quick to pull her into a hug, and sat there while she cried into her chest. She knew she could never understand the pain that charm was feeling, but she made a promise to herself to be there for her whenever she needed a shoulder to cry on. She felt a warmth in her heart that she had never felt before. It was kinda weird, but she liked it. The two sat there until the sun disappeared over the horizon. “Ok girls it's time to come inside and grab a bite to eat.” Yelled Apple Jack from the kitchen. Charm had fallen asleep on Apple Bloom. She hated to wake her, but knew that Apple Jack was not known for her patience. Apple Bloom gently nudged Charm, causing her to jump a little while waking from her short slumber. “What's going on?” Charm asked while rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “We had better go inside. Apple Jack just called us for dinner, and she don't like waiting.” Said Apple Bloom with a smirk. Charm slowly got up from her spot on the porch. Apple Bloom was right there making sure she didn't fall back down. Charm began to stretch, and a series of pops could be heard going down her spine. This made Apple Bloom cringe a bit. “I recon that felt pretty good, huh Charm.” Apple Jack said causing both the fillies to jump. “Apple Jack you scared the life out of me.” Said Apple Bloom holding her hoof to her chest. “Hehe.” Apple Jack chuckled. “Sorry about that, but I heard your back popping all the way in the kitchen and just wanted to make sure you were ok.” Charm smiled. “I am ok Apple Jack. I guess my back and everything is just a bit sore from moving around all day.” Apple Jack chuckled again. “Well once you have dinner and get up stairs. I will bring you some of my special cider. Just don't tell Granny Smith, or she will have all of our hides. She might be old. But she can still put a hurtin on ya.” Said Apple Jack with a wink. “Hey what about me?” Apple Bloom asked. Her bottom lip just slightly pooched out. “Don’t ya worry Apple Bloom I got you covered too.” Apple Jack said before turning towards the house with the others in tow. Dinner seemed to come and go for the two fillies. This was the first time they had really been able to enjoy each other's company, since Charm had arrived a few weeks ago. They shared stories back and forth. Even Apple Jack got in on the story telling. Even told some embarrassing ones on Apple Bloom. You would have thought Apple Bloom was going to turn into a Apple. With how red she got. Charm couldn't help but laugh. This was the most fun she’d had in forever. Now they were sitting upstairs in Apple Bloom’s room waiting on Apple Jack to come up with the cider. They knew they were still too young to drink it. But Apple Jack was known let a glass or two slip by every now and then. Soon the two heard hoof steps coming up the stairs towards the room. “I though that woman would never go to sleep.” Said Apple Jack while walking into the room with a tray with three glasses of cider balancing on her back. Apple Bloom looked at the cider. Charm could see her mouth drooling over it. “Is this stuff really that good?” She thought to herself. Apple Jack managed to slide the tray onto the nightstand beside Apple Bloom’s bed. The golden liquid inside swishing back and forth in the glasses creating a small foam. Charm was getting excited. This was the first time she was going to be allowed to partake in alcohol. Her mouth soon began to water as well. All three gathered around the nightstand, taking the glasses in their hooves. Charm watched as the other two took a big gulp from their glasses. They then looked at her, as if to say. “Go ahead and drink up.” Charm did not want to upset them in any way. So she slowly brought the glass up to her mouth and began to pour the golden liquid into her mouth. She was hit with a taste like she has never tasted before. It tasted like fresh picked Apples with a hint of cinnamon, with a slight bitter taste. She then swallowed and felt a very slight burn as it slid down her throat. Her eyes widened as she found she enjoyed this new found taste and couldn’t wait to drink more. She started to turn it up, and Apple Jack stopped her. “Whoa there youngin. You don’t want to drink this stuff fast, or you will wake up feeling worse than you did before you went to bed.” Charm blushed slightly and began taking small sips of the drink. “I had better listen to her.” She thought to herself. They all sat there in the room enjoying each other's company. A new warmth formed in Charms heart, and she was certain it was not the cider. “Is this what it's like to have a family that cares about you?” She thought before taking another sip. Her glass now half gone, and her head starting to feel somewhat numb. Apple Jack decided that Charm and Apple Bloom should start rooming together. She saw no reason why the two couldn't stay together. She had caught Apple Bloom getting up to check on Charm quite often since she came here, and could tell she cared a lot about her. Soon it was time for the girls to go to bed. Charm was fighting sleep. The effects of the cider taking it toll on her. Apple Jack stayed in the room until the girls were tucked in and well on there way to dream land. Apple Jack slowly walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. “Luna be with them in their dreams.” Apple Jack said to herself as she entered her room across the hall. She made her way to her bed and laid down, her mind finally at rest. “I think tomorrow I am going to go down to the court house and start the adoption papers, she will make a fine Apple.
