I Am Who I Am

Chapter 2: The Start of a Long Day

So, clean my room and wash the pigs? I really don't feel like doing chores I was given just today and from a family I never knew before, but I have to try to blend in. I don't know the first thing about washing pigs, but I can surely clean my- oh. I must really be a child to have someone tell me to do that.

I walk back into the house, and come across the flight of stairs yet again. I couldn't go down them very easily, but maybe I can go up? First, I look around to see if there's anyone watching me, in case I fall again. That was kind of embarrassing. Nobody is around. I look back at the staircase, and put my front right foot onto the first step, then my other front one onto the second. I think I can do it! I close my eyes, and focus on my legs. I lift my back left leg slowly off the ground. Once I get halfway to the step, I wobble a bit, but then I focus harder and stop wobbling. I continue to place my back leg onto the first step, and I did it! I open my eyes to confirm that I'm actually still standing. Yes, I'm still standing. I focus more on my steps, and slowly walk up the entire staircase without falling.

Once I go to my "room", I see that it's not very dirty. In fact, there's barely anything on the floor. I pick up everything and put each item where I think they should go. It feels awkward picking things up with my mouth, but it's the only way I can think of picking them up. Okay, now that's done. I really don't know how to wash pigs, so I need to see the whole list of chores somehow. Maybe that orange creature can help me once again. Hopefully I can remember her name from the breakfast we had. Applesauce, I think? Last I saw her, she was heading out the front door, so I should look around for her. Well, here goes nothing.

One staircase fall later, I go out the front door and look around the property for this Applesauce. After 15 minutes of exploring and searching, I hear a voice from behind me.

"Apple Bloom. What are you doing just walking around the farm?"

I turn around and see Applesauce talking to me.

"I was looking for you. I just can't really remember what my chores were, so I wondered if you had a list or something like that, so I could see what I'm supposed to do."

"I thought you knew that the chores list is on the fridge. Is something the matter, little sis? You've been acting stranger than a cow jumping over trees."

"Oh it's nothing. I've just had a bad night. Thanks for the reminder."

I start to walk away, and while I do that, I hear Applesauce say something about something being really different about me today. I walk closer to the house and something strikes me suddenly.

"Did she just call me... Sis?"

This is not easy at all. I'm thrown into a world where I have no idea where, what, or who I am, and now people are talking like I'm related to them or something. Well, this adds evidence to my "replacing another person from this world" theory. I just really wish I knew what was going on here.

I go inside and walk to the fridge. On the side, there are many magnets holding a bunch of pictures onto the fridge. One of the magnets is holding a long piece of paper. On it, there are lots of chores, each assigned to a specific person. One is named Big Mac, another Granny Smith, the third is Apple Bloom. Must be me, seeing as everyone has been calling me that. The last person is Applejack. Applejack? Not Applesauce? I guess that's what I get for relying on memory instead of clues. Now I feel stupid. I hope I didn't call her that yet. So I look at my list of chores, and it looks to be shorter than the others. The same with Granny Smith's list.

Water the flowers, wash the pigs. Lots of chores. Yeah I'll do the ones I know how to do and go from there.

15 minutes and lots of chores later, I come to the last 2 chores on the list. Wash the pigs and help Applejack with the apples. While doing outside chores, I saw Applejack kicking some apple trees really hard with her back legs, and all the apples somehow fall into buckets laid around the tree. I don't think I can kick nearly that hard.

After doing all the other chores, washing pigs somehow makes sense. I guess doing all the other chores got me thinking. I go to the pigpen and see a bucket, a faucet, a bar of soap, and a brush. I spend about 10 or 15 minutes washing pigs. I don't think I did very well, but it looks kind of good. I don't think they're exactly clean now, but at least this is over with. Now to do this "Help Applejack" thing. I walk over to the apple orchard, look around for a bit, and see Applejack kicking more trees.

"Oh hi, Apple Bloom. Ready to help me with these trees?"

"Yes Applejack."

"I saved a few trees for you to do. Now get to workin!"

Looking around a bit, I see a bunch of trees with apples still on them and buckets waiting to be filled. After a big gulp, I walk over to one of the trees, face away from it, and try to do the kicking motion Applejack was doing. I miss and kick too high, then fall down. I get back up and try again. I kick in the right direction, but only one apple falls. I give the tree a few more kicks and another one falls.

After a few more tries, I fall down by kicking up too high again. Before I start to get up, I see the legs of Applejack walk in front of me. I look up at her.

"Apple Bloom, tell me what's wrong. Why are you actin' so strange today?"

"It's nothing. I promise!"

"No it's not. I've never seen my little sis acting so strangely in all my years of being with her. Tell me what's wrong."

Should I really tell her? I don't think I should. I'm bad at this blending in thing, and I just wish I could go back home and forget this situation even came up. I look back at the ground.

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me."

"I've seen a lot of things in my life. Try me. See if I believe you."

I close my eyes, let out a sigh, and little tears forms on my eyes.

"I... I uhm... I don't remember anything. And the only things I do remember are from another person from another world. You know how hard it is to one day wake up as someone else and have to try really hard to blend in?"

I look up at Applejack with the tears still in my eyes. She just stares back at me for a few seconds.

"I find that really hard to believe. If you can prove that you really don't remember anything, then I'll help you."

"How do you expect me to prove I'm telling the truth?"

"I'll give you a little test. Come with me."

She takes me to the barn and sits me down near where I washed the pigs. She looks at the bucket, and then the pigs.

"You did a good job cleaning the pigs, although you do usually do better than this. You forgot to clean behind the ears."

She brings me inside the house, takes me to a door, and asks me what's behind it. It looks like it might be a closet. I tell her that I think there are clothes and some simple appliances like a vacuum cleaner behind the door. She opens it and lets me see the inside. It's full of hats and bows. The hats are just like the one Applejack is wearing, and the bows are just like the one I'm wearing. All of it starts to lean outside the closet, so Applejack quickly closes the door. She then takes me outside the house and deep into the apple orchard. We reach a tree house eventually.

"Do you know what this is?"

"It looks like a tree house."

"It's more than just a tree house. It's a clubhouse that I let you use for you and your friends, the Cutie Mark Crusaders."

"The Cutie Mark Crusaders?"

"You made the club about 8 months ago. Come on. Let's go inside and see if any of this jogs your memory."

We walk up the steps, and Applejack opens the door. We both walk inside, and then I look around. There are a few windows, a table, a few boxes, and a lot of decorations. I walk around inside for a bit , and then sit down, close my eyes and lower my head.

"I don't remember."

"Really. You sure you don't remember this at all?"

"I don't remember it."

I look back at Applejack.

"I didn't even know that there was a clubhouse here or that I was part of a group called the Cutie Mark Whatsits. I mean, what's a cutie mark anyway? I never heard of it, and I don't think I ever will figure out what it is on my own."

"So you really don't remember. You dedicated so much time to this club of yours, and you don't even seem to remember it the least bit. You also didn't seem to recognize any of the other things I showed you. Okay. I believe you, but if it turns out this was just a prank or somethin, I'll get Granny Smith to punish you big time for telling such a big lie and convincing me that it was true."
