Nightmare's Return

Epilogue: Red

Nightmare strode throughout the Great Hall, taking in her surroundings. She hadn't had a physical body in so long, she couldn't help but relish the fact that she was once again in this physical plane.

Chrysalis walked up to her, wiping beads of sweat off her brow. The air was still uncomfortably hot from the giant explosion that had taken place just a few moments prior.

“Welcome back,” Chrysalis said, bowing at Nightmare's feet.

Nightmare smiled and touched a forehoof to Chrysalis' head. “Rise, my friend,” she said, and Chrysalis rose to her feet. “There is no need to be so reverent. You were a bigger part of this than any other. The time for niceties is over.”

Chrysalis inclined her head. “My lord, I wish to offer to you my Hall as a throne room. Here, you can plan your plans in peace, without any interruptions. I will also offer you some of my Guards as your own.”

Nightmare had figured something like this was going to happen, but she feigned surprise all the same. “My dear, you are too kind. I will be honored to accept your offer.” She strode over to the pedestal. She clicked her tongue once, then twice. Her horn glowed again, and a throne appeared from out of the air. It was decorated similarly to her own body style, and Chrysalis couldn't help but admit that it gave a certain air of power to the place.

Nightmare sat upon the throne. She motioned for Chrysalis to join her, and she did so, sitting down at Nightmare's right-hoof side.

“I am truly sorry for your loss,” Nightmare said. “Adriu, I know, was the most loyal Changeling you had. If it weren't for that bitch Rarity, I am sure he would still be around.”

Chrysalis didn't need to be reminded of this. “I will exact my revenge upon her in my own time. Her and those two both. Shining Armor and Cadance, former sister of mine. She is kin to me no longer...”

Nightmare looked out at the Hall, envisioning all the things that could be done within this new home of hers. She looked over at Chrysalis and smiled.

“Now is the time,” Nightmare said with no small amount of glee in her voice. “Time... to show Equestria who is truly in charge now.”
