//------------------------------// // The Tale // Story: Equestria's Endwar // by Grenazers //------------------------------// EQUESTRIA'S ENDWAR In the Canterlot National Museum, a group of foals stood in front of a stone statue of a tall, thin, strange creature. The creature itself was made up of various mismatch parts from other species. According to the description, it's called a Draconequus. “And that is basically the whole story of this spirit of chaos. He ruled over Equestria for a while until the royal sisters turned him into a stone statue. He later broke free from his stone imprisonment, only to be turned back into a statue and was later reformed by the Element of Kindness.” Ivory finished, summing up all things she just said. “Wait a second.” One pink filly raised her hoof. “If he's reformed, then how come he's still a statue?” The little pink filly pointed to the tall stone statue of the creature. “Oh, this? No, children this is not actually the spirit of chaos.” She revealed. “Using bits of information from the past, the researchers manage to recreate the stone statue the spirit of chaos was turned into.” All the foals awed at the stone sculpture of the spirit of chaos. Most stares with curiosity and fascination, wondering what kind of person this spirit was and what kind of magic he can do. “Come along children, Miss Ivory is leading us out of here.” Said their teacher, Bookmark. The foals broke their gaze away from the stone statue and followed after the two adults. Just as they were about to leave the room, a couple of foals noticed a painting that caught their attention. “Excuse me, Miss Ivory!” A yellow colt blurted out. “Can you tell us about this painting?” The red-orange unicorn mare turns around and saw the large painting the colt was pointing to. The painting depicts a large castle with equally large walls, being under siege. Flames rose on top the walls, with some even on the nearby towers. Down below, there was a massive army that was laying siege to the castle's wall. The scene shows several flaming projectiles being launched from the army and aiming at the tall walls. This battle took place in the background. In the foreground there was a hill overlooking the battle below. On the right side was the rest of the army, marching down to join their comrades in battle. On the left was a lone white Alicorn watching the siege from the hill top. “Oh, now that is an interesting painting.” Said Ivory as she trotted towards it. “This painting is called the Endwar since it depict the last war Equestria ever had on their own soil.” The mare then points her hoof at the bottom left corner of the painting. “See that white Alicorn? That's the Sun Princess.” All the foals gasp at what she said, all remembering of the Sun Princess from the Legend of the Lavender Alicorn. They then all crowded in front of the painting, wishing to get a better look at the white Alicorn. “Wow, she looks beautiful!” One filly complimented. “She's so tall!” Another filly said. “I though the Sun Princess was supposed to be yellow.” One colt commented to his friend. “You know, since the sun is yellow and all.” “Alright children don't get too close to the painting now.” Bookmark said, getting them to step away from the priceless painting. With the foals out of the way, this allowed Ivory to stand next to the painting and faced the small crowd of foals standing at the front. “Now ,seems to me you're all quite interested in this painting and its history, yes?” She asked, getting a few yeses and nodding heads. “Well then, do you all want to know the story behind this event?” All the foals simultaneously agreed and the mare smiled. “Alright then.” Ivory cleared her throat before continuing. “Listen closely children and let me tell you of the story of the Endwar.” --- A long time ago, when Equestria was still young. There was a damaged castle, located deep in a dark forest. Inside the castle there was a white Alicorn, sitting alone in her throne room. The Sun Princess sat on top of her throne, sulking over the loss of sister, the Moon Princess. It has been a week since the Princess of the Sun was forced to banish her sister. The Moon Princess succumb to her jealousy over her older sister, transforming her into the wicked mare of darkness. The two sisters battle each other, destroying large portions of the castle. In the end, the Sun Princess defeated her corrupt sister by using the Elements of Harmony, banishing her permanently to her own moon. The Sun Princess did not celebrate her victory with big cheers or festivity. No, her victory was a hollow one. No only did she lose her only sister, but she realize her own failures. She failed to see the growing resentment her sister had for her. Failed to convince her to lower the moon. Failed to prevent her from falling to the dark side. Failed to stop her sister, forcing her to use the Elements to banish her. Upon realizing her own failures, the Sun Princess went into a deep depression. A depression that made her unfit to rule over her own kingdom, leaving her subjects to run the country themselves. The Sun Princess loses all contact from the outside world, as she stayed in the destroyed castle, lamenting her loss and failures. She continued to reside in her castle, sitting on her throne as time passes by. She didn't know how long she has been here, but then again she didn't really care. All she wanted was to be left alone. She got her wish as nopony has ever came by and tried to talk her out of her depression. It wouldn't be a few years later that one lone pony came to visit her. The pony inform the Sun Princess of everything that happened during her absence. After she gave up control over her kingdom, things went crazy. Ponies everywhere argued amongst themselves, fought over who would rule over this kingdom and how it should run. All their squabbles eventually lead the once united race to break off and separate. The Earth ponies left to form their own faction. It was then soon followed by the departure of the Pegasi and then later the Unicorns. The land of Equestria was divided. Splitting the country into four. One is the New Earth Republic, the second is Pegasopolis, the third is Unicornia, and the fourth is the Loyalist. The Loyalist were the smallest of the three factions and the only one still loyal to the Sun Princess. They believe that one day their princess will return and bring everything back to the way it was. However, that was years ago and they are losing their faith. Then, as if a divided Equestria wasn't bad enough, a new threat has arrived and landed on Equestria's shores. These new arrivals were tall, muscular creatures with a bull like heads and legs. They called themselves the Minotaurs. The Minotaurs sailed across the great sea, hoping to find a new land to colonize. Not only did they find a new land, but they also discovered the native inhabitants. Believing themselves to the superior race, the Minotaurs aggressively took some land belonging to the three pony factions. Each faction responded with force, but were beaten back by the Minotaur’s superior military strength. Together, the three factions could have actually beat the invaders. Sadly, their different ideals and goals, prevented them from working together. This allowed the Minotaurs to easily push the ponies back and slowly take their land. A few years went by and almost half of Equestria was under their rule. With the Minotaur threat growing larger, one lone pony from the Loyalist faction went into the dark forest to find the Princess and try to convince her to come back. The details of their conversation remain a mystery to this day. Nopony knew what the lone pony said to the Sun Princess, but it was enough to get the Princess out of her depression and to take charge. She followed the pony back to the Loyalist, where upon she assume control over the small faction. As brave and strong as these ponies were, the Sun Princess knew that she'll need the combine force of the other three factions in order to drive the invaders out of their land. Before she can go on and reclaim the lost territories, she needed to defend the territories they still have. So the Princess went to the Earth factions first and requested their aid. Being the tribe with the best workers, they were perfect for the job of setting up a defensive line along the border between theirs and the Minotaur’s. Also, their unique abilities to grow crops better then any other race, made them a valuable asset. The plan was simple, the only hard part was convincing the Earth pony Chancellor to lend their aid. The Chancellor felt no obligation to join with the Princess and her Loyalist. After all the mistreatment and inequality his kind has faced, why would they. The Sun Princess assured the Chancellor that while she can't say the same for the leaders of the other two tribes, she never once though of his kind to be the inferior race. She comments on how despite not having wings to fly or a horn to use magic, the Earth ponies managed to achieve great things without them. They were builders, crafters, creators, inventors, what they lack in magic and flight, they make up for it with big ideas. When they needed to transport things to someplace far, they created the wagon. When they needed better quality armors and weapons, they invented blacksmithing. When they need more fertile land to grow crops, they invented irrigation. To put it simply, the Earth ponies may not have wings or horns, but they work hard and with that hard work they accomplish feat of greatness that rivals the other tribes. The Earth Chancellor was so moved by the Sun Princess's speech that he took back the refusal from earlier and agreed to join with Princess and her faction. After convincing the Earth Tribe to join up, the Sun Princess didn't stop there. The Princess then travels to Pegasopolis, home to not only the pegasus ponies, but the best warriors in Equestria. Long before Equestria was founded, the pegasuses was a military like society. Instead of regular government officials, they were run by the highest ranking military pony in their army. If the Princess wanted to take the fight to the Minotaurs and reclaim their lost territories, then she'll need the bestest warriors Equestria has. The only obstacle blocking her way, is their leader. When the Princess ask for their aid, the Pegasus Commander outright refuse her request. The reason for this is a personal one. When the Sun Princess gave up her duty as a leader to them, the Pegasus Commander felt betrayed. His kind has always been loyal to the Princess. They respected her and she respected them back. But, then when she just gave up, the Commander and many like him were torn. After all their services to her and this is how they are payed, a stabbed to their heart. After listening to his tirade, the Sun Princess gave a heartfelt apology to the stallion. She was sorry for betraying him and his people. She then went on about the reason behind her action and how it was selfish of her to abandon her responsibilities as a Princess to them. She then promises that if he unite with her faction, then she'll never betray him or his people ever again. As heartwarming as her speech was, it was not enough to persuade the Commander to change his mind. With negotiation gone, the Sun Princess went to the second plan. She challenge the Pegasus Commander to a duel, if she win then the Commander has to join up, if she lose then she'll never come back. This was a custom, practice by the Pegasuses ages ago. Whenever there is a conflict that need to be resolved, two or more ponies can battle it out. A pony is declared the victor and the conflict is resolved. The Pegasus Commander accepted the challenge and suggested to head out to the training ground for their duel. The Sun Princess went along and followed after the stallion. Upon reaching the training ground, the Commander inform everyone of his duel with the Princess. All the ponies in the area gathered to watch the show, with more coming from the outer areas. The Commander asked what kind of weapon she wants. The Princess requested a spear. After giving the Princess her weapon, the stallion then picked up his own weapon, a warhammer. Before they start, the Commander listed two rules. Rule one: both duelist must stay inside the arena, the second rule: no magic allowed. The Sun Princess accepted his terms and gripped her spear with her hoof. The Commander does the same with his own weapon and went into a combat stance. Both combatants await for the referee to start the match. When they heard the signal, the Pegasus Commander was the first to move. He swoop towards the Princess, weapon raised and about to strike. The Princess quickly evade the swing of his warhammer and struck him on the back with the other end of her spear. The Pegasus recovered quickly and swung his weapon backwards. She attempt to block it with her spear, but the Commander's hammer broke the blade part off her weapon. Thinking she was done, the Commander continued his assault and repeatedly swung his hammer around. Suddenly he felt a sharp jab to his face, breaking his snout. Looking up, he saw the Princess using the broken spear like a staff. The Princess unleashed a series of jabs at the stallion, forcing him to go on the defensive. The Alicorn mare then knock the weapon out of his hoof and pointed her weapon at the weaponless stallion. She asked if he was going to yield. The Commander said yes and she drop her broken weapon. Since she won, the Sun Princess now has the entire Pegasus tribe under her control. Her first order of business is to have them join up with her faction. She then declare the Pegasus Commander as her second-in command and left him to organize things as she flew off to her next destination, the Sovereign State of Unicornia. From what she had heard, the Unicorn Queen was a direct descendent of the unicorn princess who founded Equestria with the other two tribe's leaders. The Sun Princess was good friend with the Princess back in the day, perhaps this Unicorn Queen can be convinced to join her. This was not the case as upon landing in the castle, the Unicorn Queen immediately order the Alicorn Princess of her land. This unicorn mare was nothing like her ancestor, she was mean, she was bitter and she was cruel. She ruled her kingdom like a tyrant, any none unicorns living on her land was practically a slave. It wasn't just the Earth and Pegasus ponies, there were also some unicorns too. Those poor ponies were the ones who lacked any magical capabilities. To her, a unicorn who can't do magic is more worthless then those Earth ponies. The Unicorn Queen warned again for the Sun Princess to get off her land or else she'll have her royal guards attack her. The Sun Princess pleaded for the Queen to listen to what she has to say, but the mare won't have any of it and warned again, this time being her last warning. Dejected, the Princess raised her large white wings and flew off. However, unbeknownst to the her, there was a little bird following behind after her. While flying, the Sun Princess was trying to come up with a new way to get the unicorns on their side. She couldn't think of any as she discarded the ones involving violence from her head. As she continued to fly, she heard a chirping sound coming from behind. Turning her head, the Sun Princess spotted a small bird with a rolled up piece of paper tied to its leg. Taking the paper, she unrolled it and found a written message. The message was apparently from a group of insurgents, looking to overthrow the Queen. They promised that if she assist them in their revolution, they'll join her side. After finishing the message, the Princess drop the piece of paper and hastily flew back to Unicornia. When she reached the castle, the insurgents were already attacking. All over the castle, cloaked ponies clashed against the royal guards. As they all fought, the Sun Princess made a beeline to the throne room. She burst through the door and found the injured Unicorn Queen, cornered by several assailants. The lead insurgent notice the arrival of the Alicorn Princess and welcomed her, believing she was here to help them. However, to everyponies shock, including the Unicorn Queen, the Sun Princess was not here to help them, instead to stop them. The Sun Princess blasted all the insurgence and knocked them all out. Thus leaving the dumbfounded Queen to gawk at her savior. After the battle, the royal guards won the fight and were rounding up all the insurgents. During this, the Unicorn Queen approached the Sun Princess who stayed. The Queen wanted to know why she saved her life despite how rude and disrespectful she was to her. In response the Sun Princess explained that while that maybe true and admits that she wasn't very fond of her either, but that doesn't mean she wished death upon her. In her eyes she was another pony who needed saving, and as Princess it was her duty to protect her people. After hearing her answer, the Unicorn Queen felt a change of heart and agreed to fight along side with her and her army. With her task here done, she spread her wings again and took flight into the air. The Sun Princess now has the awesome arcane powers on her side. Along side with the Earth ponies and Pegasuses, the Sun Princess was now ready to fight against the Minotaurs. The Earth ponies did well holding the line against the Minotaurs, but now is the time to strike back. On the day before the attack, the Sun Princess gathered all the leaders, generals, commanders and other high ranking officials together to reveal her strategy. After telling everypony of her plan, they all left to prepare their troops. The next day came and the Minotaurs were caught by surprise. At their defensive line, the Minotaur troops were overwhelmed by the sudden attack of a large force of ponies. Heavy armored Earth ponies rammed and tackled their way in. The Pegasuses swooped down from the air and struck any Minotaurs they see. The Unicorns fought using a wide arrange of combat magic, devastating the battlefield with their arcane powers. All along their borders, the Minotaur troops stationed there were suddenly being assaulted by the ponies. Leading the assault was a tall, pure white Alicorn. She swooped down from the sky, slashing and stabbing Minotaurs with her golden spear, while also simultaneously casting various destructive spells. The reason for this large attack, was so that they could end this war as quickly as possible. For too long this war has devastated their land, ruining the once beautiful Equestria she once knew. At first everypony though this was a shock and awe sort of plan. But, as the battle pressed onward, it became more of a Blitzkrieg. When they retook territories, they didn't stop and rest. Instead they kept up the assault and went further in, stabbing deeper into Minotaur controlled territories. Normally this would be seriously unwise strategy, but because of how fast their attack was going, the Minotaurs barely had enough time to formulate a plan to counter them. The large pony force continues to cut through the Minotaurs until they all reach their destination. The Iron Castle, a massive fortress created by the best Minotaur builders. Their main building, a huge structure that is so massive it beats the tallest mountains around. Its walls, so high it can block off an Ursa Major. For years this castle stood as a symbol for both the strength and might of the Minotaurs. Now they are going to bear witness to their symbol of power as it comes crumbling down. The Sun Princess stood on top of a small hill, overlooking the battle below. Her army amass in front of the large caste, laying siege to it. The Earth ponies brought with them their greatest of war machines and laid siege to the castle's walls. The top of the titanic walls were set ablaze by the flaming projectiles being launched at them. As each projectiles hit the wall, small cracks emerged from their impact. Eventually with enough hits, parts of the wall broke off, crumpling upon the Minotaurs inside. Soon enough a breach in the wall was opened and everypony started pouring right in. The ponies swarmed the castle, destroying everything inside. The Minotaurs fought valiantly, but they soon became overwhelmed by the ponies. Their siege weapon continued to rain fire at the Iron Castle, this time all aiming at the main building. The Sun Princess flew over the castle, watching her troops do their work. Both the Earth and Unicorn ponies worked down on the ground, with the Pegasus ponies providing air support. The battle lasted for hours, with many Minotaurs still fighting back. They fought with great spirit, but they'll soon realize that it was losing battle. From up in the sky, the Sun Princess saw large formations of Minotaurs leaving certain positions and all heading off somewhere. Then it dawn on her that they were retreating. With the Minotaurs falling back, the ponies easily secured certain sections of the castle. The Sun Princess was then interrupted by a Pegasus Captain. The stallion informed her of the Minotaurs falling back to their ships and setting sail into the ocean. He already have a strike force ready to take those ships down. The Princess order him not to. Her reasoning was that they already accomplished what they set out, driving the invaders out of their land. Beside when they return back to homeland and tell everyone of their story. Their story will then spread throughout the world, sending them all a clear message. Do not mess with the Equestrians. For her final order of the day, the Sun Princess ordered the complete destruction of the Iron Castle. Leave nothing standing she said. Her army obeyed and all attack the castle. Earth ponies used their war machines to destroy the castle. The Pegasus ponies harness the power of lightning to strike the castle. The Unicorns used their most destructive spell and devastated the castle. With their combined efforts, Iron Castle was reduced to a big pile of rubble. Now that they were finished here, the Sun Princess lead her army back home. Leaving the remains of the once mighty Iron Castle, in ruin. --- “From that day forth, no other race ever dared to invade Equestria, less they suffered the same fate as those Minotaurs. And thus the Sun Princess made sure no war ever occurs on Equestrian soils, thus ending all wars in Equestria.” Ivory finished her tale and looked at the astound faces on each of the little foals. After she was done talking, all the foals talked among themselves. Ivory stood and listen in to their discussion about the Sun Princess. Suddenly the foal's teacher, Bookmark, trotted next to the mare. “Pretty strange huh?” He said to her. “Never seen kids this excited for history back in our days, am I right?” He jokingly remarked. “Well Bookmark, things were a lot different back then.” She answered. The mare then looked clock and saw that it was nearing twelve o'clock. “Oh shoot it's almost lunch time.” Upon hearing this, the blue stallion turn his attention to his students. “Everypony! It's almost lunch time, let's all follow Miss Ivory to the cafeteria!” All the little foals did as they were told and follow the two adults out of the room. They head to the cafeteria to refuel on food and drinks, then after that they can explore the rest of the museum. The End
