Building a Better World: Origins

Mew and Luna

They had finally done it. The citizens of Equus were safe. Now it was just a matter of giving them the power to protect themselves, and placing them around Earth.

<Alright then lets get on with this.> Arceus spoke. <Come here Mew you have a knack for this.>

<Oh, yay! New pokemon!> Giggling all the way she joined her father in the sky above a mountain forest. <The other races of Equus will be easier to change and settle so I'll get to them later, and focus on the different types of ponies.> She made a physical three dimensional model of the Equestrian pony DNA, and started adding in the necessary traits. <They're a little complicated at first, but... Oh, I know!>

Arceus was simply standing (floating) back, and letting Mew do the work she loves, but rarely gets to do. <Okay so the ponies are already a bit like eevee, but backwards because they start as one of the three forms, and have the potential to evolve into the combined alicorn form, but I'll have to put some kind of evolutiona
evolutionary block to prevent that from happening too much cause it's supposed to be a very rare and very special thing and that's why there's only four of them.> She paused as if taking a breath, but was stopped from continuing when Arceus placed a hoof over her mouth.

Mew blinked. <Dad you know I don't actually need my mouth to talk right? > she asked him.

<Perfectly well yes.> he laughed. <But you were getting a little carried away I think.> He removed his hoof.

<Oh.> Mew was a bit disappointed.

<That's alright.> He gave her a quick nuzzle. <I know you get excited when you have a chance to work, but I think it's best if alicorns are seen as legendary.>

Mew thought about that for a moment before nodding. <Yeah, probably not a good idea if any pony could potentially evolve into something that can move astral bodies with its mind.> She suddenly realized how powerful that would make them. <Not even most of the Legendaries can do that.>

<Sage advice my daughter.> His eyes brightened in what could be a smile for a being with no mouth. <Well, go on and finish up.>

<Okay, the basics are done, but I'll need to move somewhere more private, and sterile before I get to the fine details.> She looked around at the multitude of flying pokemon that had gathered around them. <The sky is nice, and all, but there are a lot of distractions.>

After she said that a magicarp fell down from above. Godly father, and daughter watched it fall. <Yes, I see what you mean.>

Arceus opened a portal to the Hall of Legends. Mew grabbed the model DNA helix in her psychic power, flew through the portal, and dashed off to her room. Arceus looked at the gathered pokemon before leaving. He noticed new and old injuries as well as signs of illness, and malnutrition.

<There is a chance coming to the world my children.> He summoned the mind plate. <There will be a new balance between pokemon, and humans.> With that he released a powerful heal pulse that covered the entire area.

On the ground below a certain magicarp laying in a small crater had swirly eyes. The fish pokemon was then hit with a strong heal pulse. It blinked its eyes a few times before making a rather intense expression. It started to flop around, and after a minute with a shout of defiance the magicarp slammed its tail down.

Thoom!

The flying types all scattered from the noise in time to avoid being tackled by the seemingly rocket propelled fish. Magicarp sailed through the sky, almost reaching the clouds, and eventually disappeared in a Team Rocket like fashion.

This had been witnessed by the alpha pokemon, and he now sweat dropped because of it. <I feel sorry for anyone who angers that magicarp into evolving.> Arceus stepped through and closed the portal.

Later in her room (which looks like it belongs to a genius twelve year old geneticist who likes beanie babies) Mew was relaxing with a bowl of mixed pokeblock. <Ah, finally done.> It had taken her literally all day to do it, but she had done it. Ponies were now pokemon, and the DNA was perfectly balanced, and stabilised. Mew levitated another pokeblock to her mouth without seeing what kind it was.

<Souurr!> She made the appropriate face for having the equivalent of several lemons in her mouth.

Princess Luna had been searching for the Legendary Mew so she could ask about these genetic changes. Her sister was more interested in the political side of things. The night princess knew it was important, after all an entire world's population had just became homeless, but she found little interest in politics. And from what Luna understood there would be little to do about it unless they could convince the humans to treat pokemon as equals.

She found the door right where she was told it would be. "I see what those swordsmen meant by 'you can't miss it'." It was pink with girly flowers, and had 'scientist at work' written on it in multicolored crayon. Luna hated it.

She almost turned to walk away, but stopped when she heard a crash from inside the room. In an instant Luna kicked the door open, and rushed in expecting some enemy to be attacking the Legendary.

What she found was a small pink cat like thing that looked to be choking on something it ate. Luna is not the most girly princess (that would be Cadence) but she could not resist the creature's cuteness. "I have you small one!" Luna flew up behind the pink thing, and gave it a quick slap on the back.

"Gulp!" Mew swallowed the unchewed pokeblock. <Whew, tha that's better.> Mew gave Luna a small wave, and smiled as she introduced herself. <Thanks for that, I'm Mew by the way.>

"Oh!" Princess Luna bowed respectfully. <Forgive me Lady Mew, but I had thought you were someone's pet."

<Why would you think that?> Mew tilted her head sideways with one ear cocked down.

The princess did a good job at not giggling at the cute expression, but only just. "I apologise of course, but you are much smaller than the other Legendaries I have met, and you resemble some kind of cat." Luna sheepishly waited for the Legendary to get mad.

Mew just giggled.

"You are not angry for being compared to an animal?"

<Nope.> Mew shook her head. <You weren't saying it to be mean, or as something you believe about pokemon. Besides, > she booped Luna on the nose <how can I get mad at someone for calling me cute?>

Luna blinked at the invasion of personal space. "Well allow me to introduce myself properly." Standing straight, and spreading her wings she said "I am Princess Luna, mistress of the night, guardian of dreams, and co-ruler of..." she deflated at the sudden realization "formerly of Equestria." she corrected herself.

<Oh, don't feel bad.> Mew ignored personal space again, and hugged Luna. <You were able to keep everyone safe long enough for my daddy, and my brothers to move them all to Earth.>

"Yes, and now they are all homeless, and will be treated as second class citizens, and even pets by the humans."

<Well at least they'll be able to protect themselves in battles now.> Mew flew over to her holographic display of the new species DNA helix and switched it to show an earth pony using hyper beam. <I've modified the basic genetic structure of ponies so that they count as pokemon. So now they can protect themselves when trainers try to capture them.>

"Yes, capturing." Luna's eyes went from sad to cold and hard In record time. "That is something we will have to deal with sooner rather than later."

Mew felt a chill go down her spine at the princess' words, and got the feeling that sooner would not be soon enough. <Um, okay.> Mew needed a distraction. <Oh, let me show you this.> she held up a diagram.

"Um?" Luna studied the information, but was unsure of what she was seeing. "What is this?"

<Magic type pokemon advantages, and disadvantages. I had to do a trial run by transforming into one myself. Magic has no particular advantages against other types but they can use their spells to mimic other type attacks, and ghosts while not immune to magic have a resistance to it, and their special attacks will do extra damage.> Mew explained.

"Ah, yes this is what I was seeking from you." Luna grabbed the chart in her magic. She studied it from top to bottom, pausing each time she read about dragons, psychics, and fairies. She was not too worried about poison as there were simple spells for that.

"Well then, I have only one question for you at this time." Luna set the paper down, and looked Mew in the eye. She asked "How do I learn what moves I can do?"
