//------------------------------// // Ch 1 Scootaloo's Question // Story: The Adoption Aftermath // by SweetNSour //------------------------------// "Come on Scootaloo, you can do it, just one more wing-up," said Rainbow Dash encouragingly to Scootaloo. Scoots took a deep breath and with a huge amount of strain she completed her last wing-up for the day. As she fell face first into the dirt she let out a huge sigh of relief. 'Man Rainbow Dash sure does have a tough routine,' Scoot's thought, 'but I can't really complain she is coaching me on flying after all.' "Alright squirt you did a great job today," said dash as she noogied scoots. "Now I gotta fly but first I need you to Twilight a message for me." "Sure...thing...Dash... what is it?" Scootaloo said still out of breath from training. "I need you to tell Twilight that I have to postpone her training session today. I have to go to the Cloudsdale Cloud Factory and help round up some runaway storm clouds. Tell her to be ready the day I get back though. I should only be gone for two days, three at max." "Yes Ma'am," replied Scoots with a salute. Rainbow was about to take off but was stopped by an outstretched orange hoof. "Ah ah ah not yet missy," Scootaloo teased, "I believe you owe me ten bits." Rainbow looked from her hoof to her face, then remembered the bet she made the filly. "Well, I guess you did beat your score of thirty wing-ups by five," said Dash, "here ya go squirt. You earned it." As Dash reached for here saddlebags Scoots ask, " Me and my friends can still have that sleep over at your place since your nit going to be there, right? You did Pinkie promise," said Scoots. Still digging through her bags Dash said, " Only if you pinkie promise not to break anything." "Alright," Scoots agreed and closed her eyes, "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye..." Scootaloo didn't get to open her eyes in time to see Rainbow Dash throw a cupcake at her face. Scootaloo got knocked back a few feet and started wiping the icing off her face. She gave Dash an evil glare and said " I know I was pinkie promising but a cupcake literally in my eye, come on." Dash was to busy laughing her wings off to hear what her little sister was saying. "You should have seen the look on your face..haha..priceless." Rainbow Dash stopped her fit of laughter and got up. "Alright Scoots you can sleep over at my house tonight." Dash handed her the ten bits and her house key. "Now I gotta go so I'll see you when I get back squirt." Rainbow said taking off towards her cloud home. "Thanks Rainbow Dash, cya when you get back," Scoots yelled after the Pegasus. She put her reward and the key in her saddlebags and hopped onto her scooter she got from her mom, Pinkie Pie seven months ago on her birthday. She decided to take it slow on the way to Twilights library house. 'Nine months,' she thought to herself as she rode towards the tree library, ' I can't believe it's only been nine months since mom adopted me. It's too bad that she's out of town till tomorrow.' Scootaloo was so lo lost in thought she didn't notice a silver maned grey pony trying to get her attention. She pulled out of her thoughts and noticed the pony. It was Silver Spoon, her filly friend. She pulled up to Silver and kissed her on the lips saying, "How's my little teaspoon doing?" "I'm doing fine, how about you. What are you up to?" Asked Silver. "Not much really, I was on my way to Twilight's house to deliver a message from Rainbow Dash and then I was gonna head to Sugar Cube Corner. You wanna come with me," asked Scoots. "Sure, I was on my way to Sugar Cube Corner, but I guess we can go after we stop at Twilights." Replied Silver hopping on the back of the scooter. Scoots handed her a helmet and said," You know the rules, scooter doesn't move until the helmets are on tight." Now with anypony else she probably would not have given them a helmet, but this was Silver Spoon, the love of Scoots life. Silver tapped Scoots shoulder indicating that the helmetas on. "Hold on tight teaspoon," Scootaloo said. She felt two hoofs wrap around her waist as they started to move. Scoots, still going slow, decided to take the long way around to Twilight's place just so she could spend the extra time with Silver. For ten minutes they rode in silence just enjoying the company of each other. They got to Twilight's home, dismounted the scooter leaving the helmets on each handlebar and walked up to the door. Just as Scootaloo was about to knock when Fluttershy opened the door to leave. "Oh my, I'm so sorry," she said in her normal quiet voice, "I'll just get out of your way. Twilight, Scootaloo and Silver Spoon are here," she told the alicorn. She waved by to the girls and shut the door for them after they came in the tree. "Hey girls, this is a nice surprise. What brings you here, and how's your training been going Scootaloo?," she asked putting on a saddlebag. "Well, I can't fly very high yet, but I can hover 10 ft in the air for almost an hour now," squeaked Scoots excitedly, "oh yea and Rainbow has a message I'm supposed to give you." "Really? What did she want you to tell me?" Asked Twilight. "So Rainbow said that she's gonna have to postpone your flying session because she had to leave suddenly to help in a runaway storm cloud emergency in Cloudsdale," explained Scoots. "Oh, did she say when she was gonna be back," asked Twilight. She seemed a little bummed out that she wasn't going to be able to practice. "Rainbow said she would be back in three days time at the latest," replied the orange filly. A couple of minutes of awkward silence passed between the three of them. Twilight's bummed out expression changed to one of deep thought. Then with a burst of energy that startled the happy couple Twilight said," Welp, that works out nicley cause I've got some studying to do which I should really get back to, so if that was everything then ill see you guys later." The purple pony started to usher the filly's to the door when Scootaloo reminded her about the cloud walking spell that she was supposed to cast on on Silver, Apple Bloom, and Sweetie Belle. "Don't worry I didn't forget abo... wait Dash is letting you four sleep over at her house while she's gone?," asked Twilight suspiciously. "Yea we talked about it after my exercises today. She made me Pinkie Promise not to mess anything up. She threw an actual cupcake in my eye," said Scoots rubbing her hoof under her eye. Twilight chuckled and said, "Alright as long as you Pinkie Promised then I'll meet you and your friends under Dashes cloud home. Did she leave a way for you girls to get up there? "I think she said something about a spiral staircase for use to use," replied Scoots. "Good, I would have brought the hot air balloon if she didn't leave a way for you to up there. Actually that reminds me," Twilight said as she turned to Silver, "could you give me and Scootaloo a moment alone. I have a private question for her?" "Sure I'll go wait by the scooter," replied Silver. When she shut the door Scootaloo asked twilight what she needed to ask her. Twilight took a deep breath and said, "I don't really have a gentle way to put this so I'm just gonna say it. I believe your birth mother is still alive. The questions have been boiling in my head ever since Princess Celestia forbade me from looking for answers. Why wouldn't she want me to look for her, I have no idea, but I came to the realization that the Princess is hiding something and doesn't want anypony finding out. Before I could go anywhere with this I knew that I would have to ask you this question. But before I ask I want you to know that you don't have to answer right away and whatever you choose, I will honor your decision. Now, do you want me to find your birth mother." Scootaloo Sat there dumbfounded at what she had just heard. She couldn't speak, if it was true than what would become of her life. Would her birth mom expect her to drop her new life and just live with her? Did Scoots even want her birth mom found... question after question poured through her head. The only thing she could say to Twilight was that she was gonna have to think about and the it was time for her to go. When Scoots got outside Silver could tell that something was wrong but decided to keep quiet. They put on there helmets and headed off towards Sugar Cube Corner. The whole ride to the sweet shop Silver could barely keep her thoughts to herself but she did. When the got there Scoots ordered two chocolate shakes then sat at a booth with Silver. Silver couldn't hold her curiosity back any longer. "So," said Silver, " I know something is bothering you, do you want to talk about it?" Scootaloo took a deep breath and started to explain what Twilight told her. Silver sat patiently for Scoots to finish. When she finally finished their shakes had arrived. Silver asked Scoots, "So do you know what your answer is going to be?" "I don't know yet, I still have a lot of thinking to do. On one hoof it would be great to see my birth mom again, but on the other my life has become perfect. I've got you, my mom Pinkie, and all my friends. I'm not sure I want to risk her taking me away if she's truly alive." They finished their shakes in silence. Silver was the first on done and as she was putting her cup down, she noticed her father walking by the shop. "Hey Scootsy thanks for the shake." Said Silver as she kissed Scoots goodbye. "My dad's walking by outside. I'm going to catch up with him and walk home so I can pack. Ill see you later at Dashes." "Alright then, I'll see you then." Replied Scoots. Scootaloo finished her shake and walked up stairs to her room, checking in on the twins first. They were both asleep in their cribs. She walked into her room, sat on her bed and started to debate about what Twilight had said. 'I hope I make the right choice.' Scootaloo said to herself as she stared out the wind in deep thought.
