When the Day Met the Night

Field Day (part 1)

A midnight stroll through the Canterlot gardens isn't anything out of the ordinary for Celestia, between teaching young Twilight a studious and always eager to learn unicorn and running a very powerful and influential country she never had any time for herself. Strolls like these kept her smiling the feeling of the cool breeze against her ivory pastel colored coat while her shining and flowing mane blew against the non-existent breeze times like these were a welcomed edition to everyone's life even if it meant peace for an hour each day. Every so often she'd see one of her loyal guards each seemed rather attentive protecting the royal figures and nobles who entered or lived inside the castle.

*Scrunch scrunch*

Celestia's ears perked up slightly as she heard an odd sounding crunch.

*Sreek scrunch scrunch*

Approaching the noise Celestia spotted a light azure blue blanket splayed across the ground, a small note in the blanket read.

Artemis

Looking a little further she spotted a small foal happily eating something she didn't have a clear vision but it sounded crunchy almost like a cookie. The young colt had a grayish blue coat and a very light azure mane, he looked almost like Luna if he weren't male he'd be an exact replica. He wore a rather damp and dirty looking cape on his back. And from what Celestia could tell he was a unicorn, due to his tiny horn sticking out of his short mane.

"Little foal are you okay?" Celestia asked approaching the young foal cautiously, the small foal looked up to see a rather tall pony, her ivory colored coated shined brightly in the moonlight. Along with semi rainbow colored flowing mane reminding him of another big pony he once met.

"I'm Artemis what's your name?" He asked happily smiling as he had bits of crumbs sticking to his lips.

"My name is Celestia, are you okay?"

"Nope I'm just here eating my cookies. Would you like one?" He asked taking out a small container full of freshly baked cookies.

Artemis rose from criss crossed position approaching Celestia with his cookies, Celestia looked at the boy before taking one and sniffing it.

"Don't worry they're white chocolate almond cookies miss!" Again his smile made Celestia brighten up slightly as she took a bite of the cookie, munching on the cookie she wondered about the young colt. He looked awfully familiar but couldn't pin-point who he was. She felt an odd connection with this colt almost if she was reminded of an old friend with him around. His childish attitude, his sweet and caring smile all of it seem rather familiar.

"Is your real name Artemis?" Celestia asked placing a hand on his shoulder wondering if anything could spark at least some idea of his identity.

"My blanket says I'm Artemis, but there was this big pony who kept saying the name Artemis. He said that I was suppose to do good things for ponies." Artemis smiled as he looked up to the night, smiling when he saw each star and pointed at each constellation.

"Why would you think that Artemis?" Celestia asked curious about the name

"Oh! There's Little Dipper miss, that's my favorite constellation because it's so small like me." He informed completely ignoring Celestia's question. Celestia smiled as she sat beside the young colt who pointed towards the starry constellations. Still wondering who the colt was and why he was in the garden, or why didn't any of the royal guards see or hear this rather loud colt wander around the castle grounds.

"What about yours?" Artemis asked with a bright smile

"My favorite is the Big Dipper."

"Why?" He asked

"Well it's near the Little Dipper it's almost taking care of the Little Dipper."

"Oh it's like the Big Dipper's baby!" Artemis happily shouted a smile appearing as he giggled trying to hold back his hard laughter only to fall on his back and roll on the floor.

Celestia smiled as she saw the young colt's laughter visibly made her giggle just the way he was full of life reminded her of Luna when she was younger, always giggling and eating sweets, just the sole visual of Luna made her think that this young colt was like her in many ways.

"Miss do you think there's more than our little planet? I mean there had to be much more then us? Oh what if there were creatures who were much more advanced than us? That would be amazing I just hope they won't hurt us."

"Well that's what makes life wonderful you don't know what will happen next. Many things can surprise you and even if you didn't know it." Artemis smiled and nodded before looking at his blanket and at Celestia she seemed a little cold.

Putting two and two together Artemis walked towards his blanket covering Celestia with it, it wasn't the warmest thing in the world, but it was the thought that counted.

"Thank you Artemis for your wonderful gesture."

"You're welcome miss I'm always eager to help anyone even a pretty mare like yourself." Artemis blushed as he finished his sentence.

"You're a sweet colt. Thank you." Artemis let out a soft giggle and nodded giving her a small salute as the two continued talking and enjoying the cookies Artemis had arrived with.

Half an hour later...

Celestia opened her eyes to see herself in her garden, she rose from the hard ground as she tried to move her stiff back, she looked around for Artemis only to see that he was no longer by her side.

Looking a few feet away from her was the blanket and the container of cookies two left inside and small sticky note on the lid.

I'm sorry miss, but I had to leave it was getting a little chilly, you can have the cookies if you want I'll be back tomorrow night to see you again, but if not I hope I made you smile you should smile more you shouldn't be boring like all the other ponies I seen around your big house.

Celestia wondered if any of the guards managed to catch a glimpse of said colt, not wanting him to get in trouble by the guards she quickly rose from the ground and walked towards castle, spotting one of her loyal night guards she quickly approached her, Cheyenne one of the several guards Celestia trusted with anything no matter how large bowed and greeted her. Cheyenne was of course a batpony, but she looked like one of her several day guards due to her bright ivory colored coat and fluorescent baby blue mane with midnight purple highlights at the end of her mane.

"Good evening madam I trust your walk was refreshing?" She asked her voice with much seriousness.

"Of course Cheyenne, but may I ask have you've seen a small colt wander into the castle, he had a grayish blue coat with a very light azure mane, he also had a black dirty and damp cape wrapped around his neck."

"I'm very sorry madam, but I've seem no such pony fitting that description or around the premises."

Celestia let out a soft sigh and excused herself walking back towards the garden trying to find anything besides the left items by the young colt. Cheyenne followed suited staying close to the princess.

She looked up at the night sky to see it was getting late she needed her rest, but couldn't help and worry about the colt where he wandered off to and why he left in the first place, she would've let the young colt stay a night while she would ask a social worker to find his parents.

"Cheyenne I have a request look for the young colt I described to you, if you find him please report back to me."

"Should I inform any other guards around the premises?" Cheyenne asked

"Yes, but insure that this colt isn't harmed in anyway possible and inform other guards that he isn't in any way shape or form a threat to me or anyone in the castle. I'm trusting you with this Cheyenne do not disappoint me." Cheyenne gave a solid salute and walked off to inform other guards about the situation.

"Hopefully they'll find him." Celestia mumbled ending it with a sigh.

Artemis...

Approaching the small pond near the garden center, Artemis smiled and sighed.

"Why does Celestia look so familiar?" He asked himself

Was she a friend he forgot about years ago? Or was she someone close to him? He didn't know but she looked like the familiar big pony he met only a few hours ago, that big pony always had a very regal sounding voice that could become thunderous if provoked he seemed more protective of Artemis if anything so happened to hurt him.

"I wonder if the big pony and Celestia are friends?" Artemis asked himself as he approached the edge of the small pond, he sighed and shrugged closing his eyes as the sounds of water lulled him to sleep.
