Under Luna's Moon

by Faindragon

A Nightly Stroll

Luna’s silver light danced around me as I moved silently through the wooden landscape I had chosen for the night. The wind gently caressed my coat as I strolled on the small path my heart had set for me. What I would do, I did not know. Where I would end up, I did not care. My heart’s desire steered my hooves, its soft beat humming with the beat of my hooves in perfect harmony.

It was a night like no other, the snow reflecting the silver of Luna’s full moon all around me. Small droplets of frost hung from the winter blue flowers along my path, glowing softly in the humble light of the full moon.

The eyes of the creatures of the wood followed my path, their breath hanging heavy around their muzzles. But my heart had set me on this path, and the creatures of the forest allowed my passing, bowing deeply as I walked through the low vegetation.

A glade opened up before me, lit up only by the light of Luna’s moon. I stopped before I entered the glade, seeing the pony for whom my heart had decided to set this path. Her snow white coat gleamed in the moonlight, as pure as the three diamonds she wore. My mind went dull as I looked at her, her azure eyes shining brighter than any star, as she met my gaze, a smile on her muzzle.

The wind played with her mane, the indigo wonder that hid her eyes for the briefest of moments, and broke the spell that her eyes had placed over me. Slowly I approached her, as if even the slightest sudden moment would chase her off, like a deer, into the night. She kept her eyes on me, and I had mine on the divine being in front of me. Her coat could shine brighter than the sun; her smile could melt the ice of a frozen solid lake.

I stopped in front of her, the unicorn whose beauty had stolen my heart, locked it tight on the path that had taken me to her on this winter night. The wind brought her scent to my nostrils, the scent of flowers and sun, and of spring in full bloom. It took me on a memory trip to the sunny days I had spent, longing for her from the shadows, praying that my heart’s desire, its deepest wish, would be set true.

The snow fell slowly around us, the moon reflecting in it and illuminating the beauty in front of me from underneath. She was an angel, a divine being that I should not have been worthy to even so much as look upon. But still here she was, smiling up at me, shivering slightly in the cold.

Despite the cold, which I had not even noticed, the warmth that erupted from my heart at the slightest sight of her burned through the thin sheet of cold that was left behind by the wind. She smiled softly at me as I offered my wing as protection from the cold, her eyes melting my heart with their pure beauty as she held my gaze a second longer than I expected.

The grace in her movement as she accepted my wing could challenge the twin goddesses, a grace she did not pay any mind, a grace that came as natural to her as it would to a swan in a lake. She leaned against my body as I wrapped my wing around her cold body, her coat as soft as the clouds that adorn the sky on a late summer day.

She sighed happily as my body warmth spread to her, the cold I had felt slowly melting off of her body. My stomach had been invaded by butterflies, butterflies that the fire of my heart engulfed in pure flames. Soon it was just me and her, standing together in silence in the middle of the glade, enjoying each other’s company. I nearly jumped as she nuzzled me, her soft muzzle connecting with my neck as she softly whispered thanks for the warmth.

I told her that I was more than happy to share the warmth my heart gave me at the sight of her, a statement that was answered by a cute giggle from her as she nuzzled my neck again. It felt as if my heart had found its way to my throat, the beating of it spreading the warmth inside of my chest to my entire body, a blush spread over my cheeks.

A thought came to my mind, and I asked her to follow me. She smiled at me, saying nothing more than yes before she started to walk slowly, leaning against me as soon as I had started to move myself, my wing still protecting her from the wind and snow around us.

We walked together, side by side, through the forest; our hearts’ beats the only sound that could be heard over the wing. No animal disturbed us as we walked, their senses telling them to stay away from two ponies in the state we were in.

We found the hill after only a few minutes of walking in the silent forest. Slowly we made our way up the hill, carefully taking every step in sync so as not to have to leave each other’s embrace. It took some time for us to reach the top of the hill.

We sat down together, side by side, looking out over the village that was our life, illuminated by Luna’s setting moon. My wing was wrapped around her body, her muzzle was against my neck as she sighed happily, telling me how beautiful the world was in the light of the winter night moon.

But it was not as beautiful as her. As we sat at each other’s side, warming each other, the night made way for the day.

As Luna’s winter moon went to rest, it made way for the first warming rays of Celestia’s sun. Just as the twilight connected the night with the day, so it connected the hearts of me and her.
