//------------------------------// // The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day // Story: Books and Wings // by That1Brony3 //------------------------------// Chapter 1 The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Dusk Shine lay in his bed, listening to the tick of the clock, wishing to Solaris that he might think of something to do. Everything that needed to be done was done. He had re-sorted the shelves, gave books to everyone who needed them, even had time to read his own book for a while, but he was still bored. He decided to go ask his friends if they could do something. Dusk, having just finished his lunch, was walking over to his friend Applejack’s farm. He  saw the huge, apple-red barn from a long ways away. On the outskirts of town, it was a quiet, but large plot of land. This didn’t help him while he was trying to find his friend. When he got there, he was forced to weave his way through the trees. He knew his friend would be in here, but it was a question of where. That question proved to be quite a hard one to answer. But he was eventually able to find the stallion in question. “Hey AJ” Dusk Shine called. “Hi Dusk. What brings you here?” “I had just finished up the work I had to do in the library, so I was going to ask all our friends to hang out later. You free?” “Sorry, and I hate to say it Dusk, but I’m afraid I can’t. I have a hay lot of work to do, and if I take a break, none of it will ever get done.” “That’s ok. I understand. See ya round?” “Yeah. Just give me some more notice next time, ok?” “I will.”         Dusk was slightly disheartened by the rejection from Applejack, but it didn’t take away from the skip in his step. He decided his next stop would be Elusive’s Boutique, since it was on the way to Butterscotch’s Cottage. By the time he got to the bridge by the shop, he could tell something was going on inside the tall, circular house. He thought he saw some figures wrestling around in the upper level of the house as he walked up. He went up to the door anyways. It’s only polite to ask. He thought as he knocked on the door.                   When Elusive opened the door, Dusk let his jaw drop in surprise. His mane and tail all frizzled, which was very unlike the fashionable pony usually looked. “Why hello, Dusk, my friend. How are you on this fine day? What brings you here?” he panted.         “Hey, Elusive.” he smiled, “What’s up with your hair?”         “Oh nothing,” he insisted. “Is there something you needed?”         “Oh yeah,” he facehoofed, “Duh, I was hoping to get the guys together tonight. Just hang out.”         “I’d love to, but I have some other… commitments tonight.”         “Oh, ok” Dusk said, looking somewhat disappointed, “Maybe next time?”         “Definitely. See ya around?”         “Sure”  he said, and start to walk towards Butterscotch’s cottage.         Dusk’s disappointment started to show now. He moved a bit slower, dragging his hooves as he went, and he couldn’t force himself to smile. Well, thats two friends who can’t do anything. Hey! I still have three more chances to hang out with someone. This thought made him smile a bit, and it was good timing too. He was at Butterscotch’s door step.         He knocked on the door lightly, trying not to scare the shy stallion. He waited a few minutes and still got no answer, so he tried again. Still no answer.         He must be out back somewhere. he thought and went to go confirm his conclusion. When he got back, the he saw thousands of bunnies gathered around Butterscotch. He must be doing a census for those bunnies. I wouldn’t want to get in the way. So, he left the light yellow pegasus to do his work.         Dusk tried to remain optimistic while he made his way over to Sugar Cube Corner, but it proved to be quite hard. He thought earlier he had more friends he could go to, but now he had  two left, and he couldn’t find Blitz anywhere. He frowned. He had really been looking forward to talk to the light blue pony.         He walked into Sugar Cube Corner, hoping desperately that Bubble Berry would be able to do something, or at least cheer him up. “Hi Bubble Berry.” he said to the always energetic stallion.         “Hey Dusk” Bubble Berry replied cheerily, “What’s wrong?”         “Oh, I was just hoping that the guys could get together and hang out, but no pony seems to be able to. Would you happen to be open?” Dusk asked hopefully.         “Sorry Dusky, I can’t. I have to watch over the store and the baby Cakes. It’s a lot harder than you think.”         “Oh, I believe you.” Dusk said as he turned to leave.         “Hey Dusk! You want a cupcake? It’s a new recipe I’m trying out and the just came out of the oven.”         “Promise they’re not hot sauce cupcakes?”         “Promise” Berry giggled He walked in the door to the library, looking quite sad. None of his friends could do anything and he couldn’t think of anything else to do alone. He was, in fact, relying on his friends to have something they could do together. However everyone was busy. He really could have used somepony to talk to. He had something he really needed to get out. It was a secret he could only really tell one of his friends. It had already started to drive him insane. He liked Rainbow Blitz. Not like he liked his friends. He felt something more towards the prismatic maned Blitz. And Blitz was the only one he hadn't talked to that day yet. He found it quite ironic that the stallion he liked most was the only pony he couldn’t talk to. He’d never thought about anypony this way before, much less a guy. He was always in the stuffy library and never outside with anypony. Nonetheless, he still knew how some ponies reacted to ponies like that.  He still had no idea why he liked the cyan colt. Blitz was constantly flying around, trying out new tricks for the Wonder Bolts. Not to mention how cute he looked. That messy, prismatic mane always stood out. His eyes were deep cheerful understanding pools of purplish pink. Dang it! Why can’t I stop thinking about him? What do I do? I’ve wanted to ask him out for a while, but I just don’t know what to say. What if he thinks it’s weird? Just then, the colt he was thinking of walked into the library. “Hey Dusk!” he called. “Where are you, dude?”  His ears perked up as he heard the voice he heard the voice of the only friend  he hadn’t talked to today. “Be right down,” Dusk called back, getting out of bed. He noticed that it was starting to turn to dusk. “What’s up Blitz?” He asked when he got downstairs. “I’m here to pick up the next Dashing Dare book.”         “Oh my, I forgot to deliver it!” he said, attempting to hide the blush that started to show.         “Doesn’t matter how I get it as long as I get it right.”         “I guess you’re right,” He chuckled. “Which one would it be?”         “Umm… Dashing Dare and The Amulet of Dogs. Or whichever is after The Emerald Eye”         “Yup, that would be it. Wait here just a sec and I’ll grab it for you.” He said.         Dusk just got to the shelf when Spines walked in. She looked over at the pegasus and waved, saying “Hi Blitz,” not paying attention to where she was walking. “What’s u- ooof” she cried, walking straight into the shelf Dusk was at. It wobbled because of the impact, and gravity caused everything on it, including a statuette perched on top, to come tumbling down onto a surprised, unexpecting Dusk. The only thing he heard was Blitz calling his name before everything went black.
