Chapter 1
Long ago before Celestia and Luna were even born there lived a group of alicorns in the far north. This group of alicorns was gifted by knowing that they were having a colt pony. Little did they know that this colt would have a unexpected life. This colt's name at first was the grey one. His name was only just temporarily until he got his cutie mark.
His life was excellent by having everything he wanted and had a very good trainer for magic. Then it happened. Shadow had turn ten and at last gained his cutie mark. He did not know though what it meant at the time. Then one day in the library a black book was thrown at his head and knocked him out for a few hours. When Shadow came to he felt the place where the book hit him at. Luckily he did not suffer any thing worse than a little bump. He found the book that was thrown even though there was no other pony in sight that could have thrown it at him.
"I will have to find out who threw this at me later," Shadow thought.
Then Shadow opened the book and started to read the first page.
The Shadow Empire

Puzzled by the book that seems to bear his cutie mark on the back cover Shadow began to start reading the first paragraph.

Shadow then gave off a frightened scream and turned as white as a ghost and then fainted. The royal guards came running in to see a pure white fainted Shadow and they decided to take him upstairs to his room. Once they brought Shadow to his room they laid him on the bed and walked off telling the other guards at the door to check in once in a while. After a couple of hours Shadow arose from his bed very nervously and weakly. He trotted in his room thinking to himself.
"Ok so that book knows about my life. Now the question is where did it come from and who threw it at me? I guess the only way to find out is to read it, but would it only say the things up to this day or until my life would end. Well maybe it will then tell me what my cutie mark means and maybe a little bit about these Celestia and Luna ponies."
So for the next few days Shadow began reading and putting off magic training for a few days. One day though he read a paragraph he will always remember.
"The six-pointed black sun with a moon in the middle cutie mark resembles shadow. It is one of the top three of alicorns. The other two are a eight-pointed sun and a moon cutie mark. The sun was gifted to Celestia while the moon one was gifted to her younger sister Luna. Celestia then is the barer of the sun, while Luna is the barer of the moon. The one with the shadow cutie mark is the barer of all the shadows and also the creator of them. It is still a mystery on who this alicorn is or is it?"
Shadow then knew what he had to do. He had no idea what a shadow was, but he knew it was he who had to create shadows for all the land. There was still one question for the young colt's mind and that was how. The next day he was forced to go to his magic training.
Then his magic trainer, Soulful Mind, found that Shadow had a cutie mark resting on his right flank. Soulful Mind knew what kind of magic to teach for that day.
"Shadow today you will learn how to summon your own personal weapon to use for battle."
"I don't know Soulful, do I have to learn it know?" Shadow asked.
"Yes, now I want you to focus your magic into your cutie mark and then your weapon should appear."
Shadow then did what he was told and put all his magic into his cutie mark and then it happened. Shadow's eyes went completely white and started to rise into the air in front of a window. The sun then was blocked by the moon and a giant shadow appeared on the floor. Soulful was in shock and watched in awe and horror of what is going on. Then Shadow grew to at least nine feet tall or close to it. His eyes then began to shift to grey dragon eyes. When he landed on his hooves a pony came from the shadow that was created and was dressed in a all black cloak. The pony only held out a box and opened it in front of Shadow. Inside the box was a sword with the blade being separated by the shadow cutie mark and the hilt was made out of some sort of black streams of magic.
Soulful was impressed that Shadow did this, but he was also scared at to was to come next.
"Good j-job Shadow," Soulful managed to say.
"So now can I go back to my room?" Shadow asked in his normal colt voice.
"Yes, you may," Soulful said going back to his normal manner.
Then Shadow turned back into a colt and the sword dropped into the shadow and disappeared. Then Shadow went back to his room and took a long nap as the weapon conjuring tired him out. Shadow unfortunately did not realize what he did was much more tiring for a normal colt alicorn. He created all the shadows in the world and that was only the start of the unfortunate things that are still yet to come.
