//------------------------------// // The Reign of Discord // Story: A Guide to Recent Equestrian History // by mint20 //------------------------------// The Reign of Discord 2050-2148 AW Ahh, the Reign of Discord. One of the most well-known phases of Equestrian History, with the possible exception of Hearth's Warming. The most likely explanation for this is it describes Princess Celestia and Princess Luna's ascension to the throne, and their "peaceful" reign ever since. The most popular explanation for their ascension is that the soon-to-be Princesses waltzed up to Discord's throne and demanded he step down. When he refused, they used the Elements of Harmony, and in one big boom - with rainbows! - , Equestria was back to normal. It was like the past hundred years of chaos never happened. Forgive me for being unprofessional, but this explanation is full of horse@#!*. To start, Celestia and Luna's reign has been far from peaceful. One only needs to look at the past five years for proof of this. In addition, this account completely ignores the period leading up to this - the actual AGE of CHAOS! Or, if it is not ignored, then the entire time is summed up to be a time of "half day, half night; strange weather patterns; and out-of-control plants." This is by no means complete or reliable, and is one of the many myths of Equestria's past I hope to destroy. Finally, this reason conveniently skips the Harmonious Revolution and the hundreds of thousands of ponies slain in the Battle of Ghastly Gorge, Equestria's worst defeat in several thousands of years, second only to the Battle of the Far North, which is the reason Celestia and Luna intervened personally in the War of the Bloodied Crystals. Anyways, I digress. We must remember that if it was not for the Equestrian Resistance Alliance, the makeshift warriors that perished in the Second Battle of Ponyville, and the hope that the ordinary pony had, Celestia and Luna never would have been able to defeat Discord, Equestria would still be wrapped around his claw, much that is, would not be, and much that is not, would be everyday life. In short, it is far too easy to focus on greatpony history and forget the acts of the commoners. They are the ones that make history happen. That is why, while Princess Celestia and Luna do get their share of credit, the next few chapters, I will turn the focus of this book to the ones at the bottom of the hierarchy, and the ones that are most overlooked.
