//------------------------------// // Huh!? // Story: Captain Lightning Sparkle Reporting For Duty // by schmitthappens21 //------------------------------// Here I am walking down a stupid dirt path in a stupid town near Canterlot. Why in the wide world of Equestria would a princess live here!? Especially a princess who used to be Princess Celestia's number one student. I had no reason to judge, but I couldn't help it. The princess must have feathers in her brain! I wouldn't be surprised if she actually did. I'm a unicorn so, I didn't know a lot about flying, but having family members who were pegasi and being a guard helped to know more about those feather brains. I was a captain, but I wasn't very high up. My boss is higher than me and he is a pegasus, so I need to be careful around him. To make it even more difficult, I'm pretty sure he as a crush on my new boss. Well, she wasn't my boss, I had to protect her. So if she tries to jump off a cliff with her wings closed and tells me to turn around. I have the right to stop her. It's in my contract. How do I know that my boss has a crush on the new princess? Well let me tell you: Earlier That Day I walked down a long hall, looking around. The castle sure has changed since the last time I've been here. How long ago was that? A year? Wow, they sure work fast. I stopped a few yards in front of a large white door. I shifted in my armor, its been a while since I'd worn it. My armor wasn't really armor all that much. It was gold with my boss's cutie mark in the middle on the front of the armor. The color showed that I was captain and that Flash Sentry was my boss. On the plus side, I was his top guard. Well, really his only guard. Flash used to be just a guard to Princess Cadence. Yes, Princess Cadence Princess of love. Personally, I didn't really like Cadence. The other pony who was in charge of me was Prince Shining Armor. Who just happened to be Cadence's husband. What else was the Guards hiding from me? I walked up to the door, the guards in front of the door greeted me. "Hey Lightning!" the gray unicorn said to me, "How's it been?" I didn't recognize him, but now was not the time to learn new names that I probably would forget. "Good. Is Armor and Sentry in there?" Most of the guards knew I wasn't very good with guard manners or manners in general. I mostly just told what I believed in without thinking twice. I sometimes wondered why I wasn't kicked out yet. The two exchanged a glance. It was obvious they were just told to expect a white unicorn with a pair of sunglasses named Lightning Sparkle and nothing more than that. "Yeah, their in there." the white unicorn said to me. There was a pause. "Aren't you going to let me in?" I asked with a growl. They flinched. "Err, yeah!" they said at the same time. The doors opened and I walked in, letting out a laugh once the doors closed. "Scaring the new recruits I see," Flash said meeting me at the stairs. "You know it," I said. Flash beckoned me to come up on the altar with a flick of his ear. "So, what do you need me for?" I ask. Standing a few feet away from him. "Well," he looked away. "You know the new princess right?" I didn't know the princess, but I've heard and see her before. She is an element barer after all. "Yeah," I say hesitantly, "Why?" Flash opens his mouth to respond, but a new voice interrupts him. "We want you to be her bodyguard" the voice says. Who just had to be Shinning Armor. "What!?" I shout. "You know I only do one time deals! I don't watch ponies for a living!" I start to pace. "Every princess has a guard though," Flash tells me calmly. "Yes, but why me!?" I say. "Because we trust you." Flash says "But-" I get cut off by Mr. Armor over here. "You should think it as a honor." "But-" Armor loses his cool and cuts me off again. Talk about rudeness. "You will watch over the princess, because she was very important before she was a princess and she is my sister!" he shouts. I had know idea that the new pretty purple alicorn was Mr. Tough Guy's sister. A satisfied smile rested over the unicorn's face knowing he shut me up. Which doesn't happen very often. "Um, can I come in?" I turn to see the new princess herself standing in front of the closed doors which I walked through. I had to admit, looks must of ran in her Sparkle family. Armor wasn't to bad looking himself, but his sister was pretty hot. "How long have you been standing there?" Flash asks nervously. A blush forming on his face. At least I knew how to control my feelings better than him. "Don't worry I didn't see you yelling at each other," Princess Sparkle says with a smirk. She had quite the humor too. I punched Flash playfully in the foreleg. "You've been busted lover boy." I say, knowing he has a crush on purple hot hooves. The blush on his face turns from a pink to deep red. Twilight giggles along with Armor and the dragon on the Princess's back. Shinning stands next to me. "This is Captain Lightning Sparkle." I stand straight and proud, my eyes closed. "Capatin, huh? Then why are you and Flash in charge of her?" What did that little lizard just say? I opened my eyes to see, that purple and green lizard standing closer to Shining and just in time to see Princess Sparkle give him a whack on the head. "Spike!" Purple Princess half whispered, half said. The princess looked at me, "I'm so sorry, Captain, Spike never thinks twice." Okay, time to bring out Mr. Nice Guy. I held up a hoof, "It's fine, Princess. I also don't think twice at times." I looked at that little dragon, "Something we have in common already." I practically choked on the words: "already." I didn't like the idea of having to stay with the Princess a long time. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Armor give me nod of approvel. Shining turned to me, "You will spend the day with Princess Twilight Sparkle in Ponyville. You will be back in Canterlot tonight, and we will go from there." I nod, then turn to Sparkle. I think Flash ran away.. I walk past the princess, and say "Let's catch a train." I hear her scramble after me. Once she reached my side with the dragon on her back. She ending up stumbling a little. When she isn't looking at me, I roll my eyes. This was going to be long day. First I have to see if I can make it through the train ride.
