//------------------------------// // Love at First Sight, Part Two // Story: The Life of a Young Colt // by Rakoon1 //------------------------------// With Shining's departure to the Academy, Night Light and Velvet had to get a new foalsitter for the little Twilight. Although Starlight volunteered herself to take care of her as she did with Shining, her son and her daughter-in-law thought it was better that she had more time for herself to relax or do what she wanted. When Princess Celestia learned her great adviser needed a foalsitter, she told him that her niece, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, liked to foalsitt and she could take care of Twilight. Although at the beginning Night Light said it was not necessary, Celestia insisted and eventually he accepted. Then she introduced him to Cadance. She was the same age of Shining and she was a beautiful alicorn with a pale, grayish light cerise coat and a dark violet mane with moderate rose and pale gold streaks tied into a ponytail. Despite being young, Cadance had already taken care of many small foals and Night Light knew she was the right pony to take care of Twilight. Twilight at first didn't like the idea of having a new foalsitter, but when she met Cadance and she showed her how wonderful she was, the little unicorn began to worship her as a best friend, which comforted her parents because their daughter wasn't what their could call a sociable pony. Twilight and Cadance established a bond so strong in those few days and now they seemed inseparable. Cadance was delighted to be able to take care of a filly like Twilight. With her, she felt very happy. The little unicorn was her biggest challenge as a foalsitter, but at the same time her greatest joy. The little filly's intelligence marveled her at every moment and her love for books was impressive. When she was not playing or reading, Twilight asked Cadance to teach her magic or she talked to her about her BBBFF, or her Big Brother Best Friend Forever, Shining Armor. Twilight spoke so highly of him that it seemed Cadance already knew him. She said he was strong, courageous, loving, funny... everything that made a perfect brother who takes care of his sister as if he depended of her. When it was Friday evening, Twilight was thrilled. She told to Cadance that Shining Armor was coming for their stargazing night. "Oh, Cadance, you'll love to meet my brother" Twilight said. "You know, he will be the biggest and the best royal guard of all." "Yes, Twilight, you already said that a hundred times" Cadance said while brushing Twilight's mane after her bath, in her room. "He's also very smart and knows many things" she continued. "He also taugh me how to control my magic a little bit." "He seems to be the best of all brothers" Cadance commented. "It's because he is the best" Twilight said. "And I'm excited he gets here." They then heard the front door open and close and a voice saying: "We're home!" "Daddy! Mommy! " Twilight called. She left the room just when Cadance finished brushing her mane, down the stairs and went to the living room, where her parents were, newly arrived. When she saw them, she went give them a hug. "Hello, my dear" greeted Velvet, stroking her mane. "Is it everything fine here?" Night Light asked. "Very well" she said, stopping with the hug. "Cadance is the best foalsitter ever." "That's good, honey" Night Light said. Cadance then appeared in the doorway and Velvet said her: "Thank you for having stayed to take care of her, Cadance. I know you have a lot to study, but..." "It's okay, Mrs. Velvet" she said. "Taking care of foals is always a pleasure. Especially if they are as sweet as Twilight." "Well, my dear, you can now go back to the castle" Velvet said. "What do you say about taking care of Twilight next Monday afternoon?" Night Light asked. "I bet Shining Armor will want to spend the week-end with his sister and enjoy every moment with her, so..." "For me, it's okay," she replied. "Well, then it's settled" Night Light said. Cadance turned to Twilight and said: "Bye, Twilight." "Bye, Cadance" she said, waving her hoof. Cadance then walked to the front door and opened it, but she was so distracted that she collided with her head against something... or somepony. She sat down on the floor to massage the head, realizing that she could only have struck against the head of another pony. "I'm so sorry" she said. "It's okay" a male voice asked. "It was an accident." She then turned to the pony who she had collided with and could see how he looked like. He was a unicorn colt with the same age as her. He had a white coat, as white as the snow, his mane had a perfect combination of moderate sapphire blue, moderate cerulean and dark phthalo blue, besides being combed in a way so natural, but at the same time so elegant, and he had coatless sapphire blue hooves. But what fascinated her the most were his eyes. They had the most beautiful shade of moderate cerulean. Eyes was what she liked admire the most in anypony, because they show exactly how each pony was. They were the mirrors of their souls. She had seen a lots of gazes, but none made her so unsettling as that one. It gave her a sense of security and tranquility. It was such a beautiful gaze that made her heart flutter tremendously and her belly circling. It was the most beautiful and seductive look she had ever seen. He also was looking into her eyes. They were in that way just a few seconds and then they shifted them, both giving nervous laughters and blushing slightly. They then turned to look at each other again, both smiling, and then the handsome colt extended his hoof to Cadance. She then took it and he helped her standing up. "Hello" he greeted, unable to say anything more than that. "Hello" Cadance replied, in the same shy way as him. The two blushed a little more, staying there for a bit and then a cheery voice interrupted the moment saying: "Shining!" Twilight appeared coming from inside and went to the colt, hugging him. "Hey, Twily!" Shining greeted, hugging her back. "I missed you so much" she said, separating herself from Shining. "Come on, sis, it has only been five days." "But to me it seemed like an eternity." Cadance gaped. So that's Shining Armor, the pony Twilight talks about the most, Cadance thought. She couldn't believe it. Of course Twilight already told her that Shining was very cute, but Cadance didn't expect he was even cuter than she described. She had never seen a teen colt as handome as him. Then she noticed the way he interacted with his sister. It looked like that those two had a strong bond, so deep that it reached levels that no other pair of siblings had arrived. Shining really liked his sister, it could be seen clearly. Velvet and Night Light also appeared at the door . "Son, it's so good to have you back" Night Light said, giving him a noogie. "It's also good to be in home, dad" Shining replied. "Oh, son, but it's good to see you're okay" said Velvet, embracing Shining strongly. "Mom, look out, you still choke me" said Shining, trying to free himself from his mother's strong hug. Cadance struggled to not give a little laugh. The way his parents and his sister treated him and loved him, only showed how Shining was really special. It was really something to admire. "Sorry, son" Velvet apologized, releasing Shining. "But the fact that you're away from me makes me so worried." "Anyway, Shining, let me introduce you to Cadance" Night Light said, gesturing to her. "Hey" she said softly, smiling. "Hey" Shining replied, returning her the smile. "Cadance has been Twilight's new foalsitter since you went to the Academy" Velvet said. "It was a way to give more rest to your grandmother. "And it's a well deserved rest" Night Light said. "It gives her more time to venture out on her crazy adventures." That made everypony loose a laugh. "She is the best foalsitter, B.B.B.F.F.." Twilight said. "No offense, Shining." "Don't worry, Twily" Shining said, stroking her mane. "Of course I'm not offended. If you say she is, it's because it's true." That made Cadance blush a little. He then turned to her and told her: "I hope my sister didn't give you too much trouble." "Oh no, she's a sweetheart" she replied. "It's the best filly I ever foalsitt." Cadance just wanted to spend more time with Shining, only to continue feeling that great feeling she was experiencing, the feeling she spread to other ponies as her special talent. "Cadance, I think it's better you get going" Night Light said. "It's getting dark and your aunt may get worried." "Yes, of course" Cadance nodded, turning to Twilight. "Goodbye again, Twilight." "Bye, Cadance" Twilight said, hugging her. "Once again, thank you for taking care of Twilight this afternoon" Velvet thanked. "It was a pleasure" she replied politely and smilling. "See you next Monday afternoon" Night Light said. "Bye" she replied, turning to Shining and smiling at him, making him blush very lightly. She found that blushing extremely adorable. Shining had a pinkish shade that made him even more handsome than he already was. Cadance then started to walk away, towards to the castle. As she walked, she looked up at the sky and saw that his Aunt Celestia had already set the sun and began ascending the moon. It was not long until the stars appear one after other to decorate the sky in a dazzling way. She sighed. The night was even more beautiful than usual. It had a supernatural glow Cadance never noticed until now. She arrived at the castle entrance and entered, being greeted with bows by the guards. When she entered, she started going to her room. Halfway, she met her Aunt Celestia. "Good evening, Aunt Celestia" she greeted in a long dreamy sigh. "Good evening, Cadance" Celestia greeted, noticing immediately in that dreamily air her niece had. "What happened, Cadance? You look so... happy." "Well, it's a beautiful night" Cadance said, continuing to advance to her room. "Indeed it is" Celestia agreed, following her. "But I think it's not only the night. Am I right?" Cadance knew she couldn't hide anything from her Aunt Celestia. After all, she was in that life for centuries. Then she turned to her and said with a huge smile: "Today I met this beautiful colt, Aunt Celestia." Celestia smiled and said: "And by your smile, he stole your heart at first sight, right?" "I don't know if I'm truly in love, but..." Cadance began, trying to find words to describe what she was feeling. "I don't know, he touched me in a way no other colt ever has. I felt myself safed and happy with him, but at the same time..." "Nervous and insecured?" Celestia asked. Cadance nodded. Celestia smiled and said, placing a hoof on her shoulder: "Honey, that is love. Pure love. Now, answer me one question. Does this colt feel the same for you?" "Well..." Cadance started, remembering how Shining had the same nervousness and shyness behavior with her that she had with him. "I think so..." "That's good" Celestia said. "The feeling is true only if it is reciprocated. What is this your special pony's name?" "His name is... Shining Armor" Cadance replied shyly, blushing slightly. "Shining Armor?" Celestia asked. "You're talking about Night Light and Twilight Velvet's son?" Cadance nodded. Celestia then smiled more and said: "Good choice. He is really the most responsible and honored colt I know. Captain White Light himself says he has a great future in the Royal Guard. I wish you lot of luck with him." And having said this, she walked away. Cadance was happy for her aunt supporting her. That made her feel more confident with what she was feeling. But she couldn't stop thinking about in what Shining should be thinking about her. It could even be that he liked her as she liked him, but Cadance didn't know if he thought that, because she is a princess, she would be selfish and snob like many other princesses, and she was pretending be good girl to the others. Of course she knew she was exaggerating because Shining, like everypony said, shouldn't care for these stereotypes. Besides, Twilight now should have begun to tell him how Cadance was. However, the fear of being rejected was so much that made her think about meaningless things.
