//------------------------------// // Genesis // Story: Sonic the Hedgehog: Hidden Elements // by Barrobroadcaster //------------------------------// "What are we looking for again?" Rainbow Dash asked. In truth, Pinkie was the only pony actually looking for something; Rainbow Dash and the rest of their friends were standing around watching her hunt through the closet. They all knew this and had been watching the pink mare rummage about for several minutes now. Rainbow Dash's patience was beginning to wear thin. She leaned against the wall with her forelegs folded and her back-right leg tapping. "I'm not sure," Rarity said. "Pinkie, when was the last time you saw this...?" she couldn't recall the word. "Genesis!" Pinkie replied, still hunting through her things. "We're looking for my old Sega Genesis!" "Right..." Rarity pretended to understand but still sounded unsure. "And you're positive you left it in your closet?" "Uh-huh!" Pinkie said. Applejack removed her hat. "How do you know it's in your closet and not somewhere else? Maybe you left it some place and forgot it?" "It has to be in here! I found these in a box!" Pinkie held up a small, black object with a cord attached in her hoof. At first, it looked like some sort of oddly-shaped paperweight calculator. The other five mares stared at it in curiosity. "What is that?" Twilight Sparkle asked. She'd never seen anything like it before. Pinkie turned around to glance back at her inquisitive friend. "It's part of the game, silly." "Wait," Rainbow Dash said, hovering over to get a closer look. "It's 'part of the game', meaning it's in pieces? Is this game something you have to put together?" she asked in a skeptical tone. "It's one of the controllers that goes with the game. You need at least one to play so I always keep it close to the console. It just must've fallen out of the box or something," Pinkie explained. She set the controller to the side as she continued her search through her closet. Twilight walked over and picked up the device with her magic. It was completely black and several words etched into it. Buttons adorned the face with letters imprinted on them. Twilight had never played a video game before; she had always been too busy reading or studying. How somepony could even utilize the small buttons with hooves was a mystery to her. When Twilight and her friends decided they were bored, Pinkie had immediately suggested they play a game together. For some reason, she chose to lead her friends back to her house and proceeded to tell them all of the fabled 'Sega Genesis' they were now searching for. Intrigued and bored, they went along with Pinkie as she began her epic search for her lost game system. "Pinkie, don't you think we should be looking for this some other time? We should be using the time we have to actually do something fun, not search for something you lost," Twilight remarked, looking over Pinkie's shoulder. She'd spent the last ten minutes pulling out boxes and searching through them; she was like a mare possessed. "Well, I don't know about y'all but I think I'm gonna go ahead and get-" Applejack started leaving when Pinkie burst up from her digging with a triumphant- "Eureka! I found it!" Pinkie held up a black, book-shaped item above her head. The farm mare turned around. "Eureka? I thought you said that thing was called Genesis." "It is called Genesis! And it looks like it's still in good condition!" Pinkie turned back around and pulled up a cardboard box out of the closet. "That's what you've been searching for all this time?" Rainbow said, flying in for a close view. "Yep! I was actually looking in the wrong place the entire time!" Pinkie happily stated. Rarity's expression turned to exasperation. "You... were looking in the wrong place?" "Yeah!" Pinkie nodded. "I was looking in the boxes MY stuff was stored in when I completely forgot; this is actually GUMMY's Sega Genesis!" Twilight forced herself to show a display of approval by way of a forced smile. "That makes perect...." Nonsense, she thought to herself. "Good job, Pinkie!" she said instead. Pinkie often treated her toothless pet alligator to various things normal pets didn't receive... or were forced to go through. Pinkie Pie walked over to her friends holding the black console. "I bought this for Gummy's birthday a couple years ago but he hardly ever plays with it any more. I was thinking that if it still works, we could give it to Apple Bloom and her friends to play with!" "If you give it to them, what's Gummy going to play with?" Fluttershy asked. She had been standing at the back of the group and quiet for the most part. Pinkie walked past her friends into the living room of her humble Ponyville home. "Gummy mostly plays TF2 now but I'm thinking of getting him an Xbox One." "I see..." Twilight said. As usual, she had no idea what Pinkie was talking about. They followed her over to her television that was set up in front of her sofa against the wall. Pinkie removed several things, all with chords, out of the box and began attaching them to the console called Genesis. Finally, she placed the contraption before the television and hooked a final chord into the back. "All right, it's ready!" Pinkie announced. "Now, what game should we try out first?" "This thing actually has games?" Rainbow asked she landed by the box, picked it up and started picking through the contents. "What they hay are these, Pinkie?" Pinkie grabbed the box from Rainbow Dash. "How can you ask that? Haven't you guys ever played a video game before?" A silent chorus of shaking heads answered her. Video games, while not entirely unheard of, weren't all that common place in Ponyville. Some ponies were just interested in other things was all and they weren't popular in the town. The occasional arcade game could still be found but more than that was a rare occurrence. They just hadn't caught on with other ponies like they had with Pinkie and apparently Gummy. "I played Pac-man once... I think," Rainbow said, thinking back. "Well, this is a lot like Pac-man," Pinkie started explaining. Rainbow Dash walked over to the black box. "It is? Where do you put a bit in it?" she asked, squinting her eyes and examining it closely. "You don't use bits, silly! You use this!" Pinkie reached into the box and held up another unfamiliar object. To Twilight, it resembled a harmonica, only larger. She even spied where she thought you put your mouth on it to blow.
