//------------------------------// // The Letter // Story: Luna's Apprentice // by Silent Wars of Minds //------------------------------// Moon Light watched as the small fillies bellow her cloud played. She remembered when she used to be like that. But that time was gone. It had been for a while. Sometimes Moon Light wished to be like the fillies. Small, careless, and worry free. Nobody would stare at her, or asked her what happened to her wing. Moon Light wouldn't have to tell them a lie. She lied to protect herself. To still be able to talk to other ponies. For the truth was too harsh. Too dark. She was watching the fillies when Derpy came along. "Hi Moonie!" Derpy greeted in her normal ditzy voice. Moon Light looked at the gray pegasus. "Hello Derpy," she replied, not interested in chatting with Derpy. She always asked about her wing. "How's your wing? Is it getting better?" Moon Light shook her head. Her wing would never fix. The metal attachment would stay there forever. It had always been like that. Instead of having a normal feather wing at the front end, it had been replaced by a metal attachment. "Do you ever take it off?" Derpy continued, ignoring Moon Light's scowl. "No. Please leave." Derpy didn't leave. She actually ignored Moon Light's statement. "Does it hurt? How do you clean it? Why do you have it? How do you-" Derpy stopped. Moon Light had rose from her cloud and bolted off into the sky. Derpy could see a slight trail of Moon Light's purple tail. But she could not see the blue coat of the pegasus. Moon Light had left. Beating her wings as fast as they could bear, Moon Light headed for the safety of the Evergreen Forest, where no pony would bother her. She hated answering questions about her wing. It just made her hurt inside. She finally stopped when her wings could take no more. Moon Light had not made it to the Evergreen Forest, but to the middle of the friendly town of Ponyville. Just where she least wanted to be. "Not here," Moon Light muttered," Any place but here!" But her wings could take no more. She would have to walk. Moon Light landed on the ground. Ponies of all different colors flocked around her. None of them took very much notice of her, but she knew that wouldn't last long. Moon Light darted from her landing spot towards the Evergreen Forest. But she was too late. "Moon Light! It's so nice to see you here! Care for some carrots?" It was Carrot Top. She was kind pony, but also sometimes a curious one. "Hi Carrot Top. Sorry but I was just heading for my, um, house!" Moon Light did not want anyone knowing where she was trying to go. Carrot Top frowned. "Your house is in the Evergreen forest?" Moon Light was stumped. She was either going to have to tell the truth or go to her house. If she told the truth, Carrot Top might insist on going with her. That was the last thing Moon Light wanted to happen. But her house on the other hand wasn't so bad. She did have some privacy, except for when her neighbors, Flitter and Cloudkicker came home. She decided to go with her house. "Wrong way! Thanks for pointing that out," Moon Light quickly replied," Bye!" Before Carrot Top could answer, Moon Light was flying off again. Moon Light's house was not large, but also not small. It was near the Apple Farm. Perhaps even above it. Her house had threee bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms was used as an office for Moon Light. Moon Light breezed onto the porch of her house. She sighed. Moon Light had finally found some peace and quiet. At least, she thought she did. "Delivery to Moon Light! Looks pretty important." Derpy had arrived to deliver a letter. Not any ordinary one that she got from her parents. One that was dark blue with white writing. "Thank you Derpy," Moon Light thanked, taking the letter. Derpy didn't leave. "Who's it from? What's it say?" Moon Light gave Derpy a dirty look before going into her house, slamming the door shut. Inside, she read the letter. Dear Ms. Moon Light, I have been searching for an apprentice. One that is different, like me. I congratulate you, for I have choosen you for your magic abilities. You will be brought to my palace in a week. Plan to pack items that will last a while. I cannot wait to see you in person and see your magic. Princess Luna Moon Light reread it over and over again. How did Luna know about her powers?
