Nightmare

One: Daring Do

Ever since the last accident where I had ended up breaking town hall, I have stayed hidden. Hidden from the haters who hate me. Sure, I was a famous adventurer. I had stories written about me, more than just one. I was the best to them. But after that night, I was hated.
It was two years after my first adventure with the broken wing. Ponies looked up to me. I was only fifteen then. So I got a little head of myself. Acted all grown up. Looking back on it now, I wonder why my fans stayed with me with the way I acted. Called ponies with fears wimps. Nobody admitted their fear to me after that. But honestly, fear is what builds a pony. It is where our courage comes from. I'll be honest, I had a huge fear of spiders back then in my first adventure. But that was what drove me to escape. My fear of spiders. I'm over it now.
Anyway, it was late one night. A fan suggested a bar for me. It was supposed to be the perfect place to tell stories and have a few drinks. I agreed, and went there. That's the first mistake. My second mistake was asking for some cider. It was my first cider ever. It was also the best. So as I drank I told stories about my adventures. A crowd of drunk ponies had joined me. The more I drank, the more I told. And the more I drank, the more I became drunk. According to my friend, who I will mention later, we all got bored and wanted something else to do. That's where it went crazy.
That day was probably the day I first kissed a colt. My little drunk group decided to leave the bar and go have fun. That was a terrible idea, but in our state, we wouldn't have regonized that. I ended up flying into town hall and being chased by a mob. My friend found a good house for me to stay in. I soon was thought to be just a story character. That was exactly what I wanted to happen.
My friend is Moonstone. She's shy and hardly talks to anybody. Moonstone is a pegasus. I met her when I was a filly in Cloudsdale. She's a wonderful poet. Her cutie mark is a writing feather. Moonstone's body is a dark blue. Her mane and tail is purple. She has lime colored eyes, and often wears a scarf. Moonstone is loyal to me. She brings me the newspaper from Ponyville and tells me about what's going on there. She is the greatest friend you could ever have.

It was one of those sunny days. The ones were the pegasus make sure every cloud is no where in sight. I was hanging out on my porch, reading a book about legendary evil creatures. There were some that were said would never to return, for Luna and Celestia defeated them. That was pretty much every one of them. Except three. One was a Dark Dragon, but they only appear in desserts. I would let the princess handle that. The second one was called a Windsnip, which attacks pegasi. The last seen of them were ten thousand years ago, so it is thought to have gone extinct. That was a good thing for me and the other pegasi. The last legendary evil creature was a Nightmare. These creatures feed off of your fears, and once you're weak enough, it will take control of you. No one knows where they went, but it is told they may arrive again. I found this interesting, but I was interrupted by Moonstone, who just arrived.
"Hi Daring," she greeted.
"Hello Moonstone," I replied," The pegasi did a great job with the weather today!" I was not lying. The sun was brilliant and warm. But Moonstone frowned.
"It was told to rain today." That got me curious. I just shrugged. The pegasi must have changed their mind.
"I guess they wanted it to be sunny." That still didn't make Moonstone relax.
"There's another thing to it. When I saw. Raindrops this morning, her mane was black and her eyes purple. She just glared at me and said nothing. She's never been like that. Raindrops usually tries to say hello to everybody. And I think I saw her kick Applejack's cider bucket over. Why was she doing that?" I couldn't really answer that question. No matter how I tried to figure it out, it didn't make any sense to me. So I just shrugged and hoped it was just some act. Moonstone gave me the newspaper and trotted away. She wasn't in the mood for talking. I couldn't blame her, after what she saw happen with Raindrops. Something weird was going on, and I was eager to find out.
"No, no, these books give me nothing!" I was searching through encyclopedias and health books for any clue about Raindrop's strange behavior, but nothing came up. I was not to happy with this. Yet thinking back to my old adventures, it was never this easy. I always found some hidden place where a book might be stored.
"A hidden book!" A reached behind the bookshelf that held my books. Sure enough, I found a button, which I pressed. A slide of dust came out, along with a book titled Strange Happenings. This may answer my questions.
It did answer some. This action was called Fear Walking. It is unknown what causes it. The effects may or may not wear off, depending on the pony with it. The description matches Raindrop's behavior perfectly. Now I was becoming more curious. Whatt was causing this action? My guts told me how to find out. I would have to go into Ponyville. Out of my hiding.
