Chapter 5: My Fault

Chapter 5: My Fault

Sunlight leaked through the window, getting right into my eyes. I yawned, waking up. Rainbow Dash was wide awake already, but stayed where she was to make sure I could get my fill of sleep.

"Morning," She said. "Ready to get up?"

"....Yeah...." I yawned again, taking one last second to snuggle with Rainbow Dash before getting up. I had no classes today, so we could spend the entire day loving each other and being a couple and stuff like that. (Making out) "No classes for me today," I said. "So we've got all day to do whatever." Rainbow Dash hugged me, feeling warm. "All day? I've been without you for too long, can we just hang around here?"
"You read my mind," I said, feeling a pang of guilt, remembering that I'd made-out with Serenity twice behind her back. "I've gotta get more coffee blend later, though."

"I've got some in my bags," Rainbow Dash beckoned to the bags by the door. "Wanna help me un-pack?"

"Sure," I nodded.

After a while of un-packing, joking, telling stories, and me realizing how dis-organized my drawers were, we had everything un-packed. We sat on the bed, sipping coffee. Time flew quickly that day. We went out sight-seeing for a little, but generally stayed indoors like a couple of weirdos. Early that night, she lay down on her back, and I snuggled up on her chest like we used to. I hugged her tightly. I'd planned on confessing to kissing Serenity tomorrow, so I wanted to enjoy when we were both happy while I could.

I woke as normal, finding that Rainbow Dash was still sleeping. I closed my eyes again, feeling relaxed. After some time, I felt Rainbow Dash shift slightly. I opened my eyes, seeing that she'd woken up.

"Mornin'" I said, stretching, still laying my head on her chest. "Sleep well?"

"We always have petty morning conversations..." Rainbow Dash chuckled. "One of these days, we'll mix it up."

"One day..." I sighed, rolling onto my back next to her. She put her arm out, allowing me to lay my head on it and lay there for a little longer. Eventually, we got up, starting the day as normal. After we both got showered, and had sat down to have coffee, I decided to tell her. I took a deep breath.

"Hey, Rainbow?" I asked. "I uh... I needa tell you something..."

She took a sip of coffee. "What's up?"

"So... My neighbor, her name is Serenity... She was really concerned about me when I first showed up, and kinda was my counciler, or something like that... Life was... Really difficult without you around... One day... We... She came over, we talked and stuff... And... We... Kissed....."

Rainbow Dash put the mug down, looking at me. "You kissed her?" She didn't sound too happy. "Is that all, or do you have more to tell?"

I sighed. "I'm so sorry... Just... There's more but... I'm so incredibly sorry..."

Dash stayed silent.

"We... Kissed twice, actually... And...."

"Twice?!"

"Rainbow Dash, please... I'm sorry..."

"There's more, isn't there?"

"I... I think... I'm in love with her..."

Dash stood up quickly. "I trusted you Trivium. I thought you said you could control yourself, but...." She sniffed. "Obviously not." She stormed out of the room, slamming the door hard behind her. I slowly fell over on my side onto the bed, tears already running down my face. I buried my head in a pillow. She was gone. She hated me. I heard a knock on the door. I hoped more then ever that it would possibly be Rainbow Dash coming back, somehow instantly forgiving me. I dried my eyes and walked to the door. I opened it to see a worried Serenity standing there. I stepped aside, letting her in. I lazily let the door slam shut, and looked at Serenity.

"What..." I heard noises and... The door slammed... What happened?"

"She..." I sniffed. "She's... Gone." I felt a tear running down my face.

"She...?"

"Rainbow Dash...." I felt a pang of guilt, just saying her name. Serenity extended her arms, and I fell into them. She sat down on the bed, her arms wrapped tightly around me. I buried my face in her shoulder, crying shamelessly. All I could think about was how it was my fault, and she had no good reason to forgive me, or even come back. (Other than the fact that her stuff was here.)

I slowly opened my eyes, realizing I'd fallen asleep. Cold air blew in through the window, which was left open for some reason. I slid out of bed and slammed the window shut, only to realize how late it was, and that Rainbow Dash was probably still outside. At nearly midnight. I sighed, walking to the door. I went over and knocked on Serenity's door, hoping she was still awake. After about 10 seconds, she opened the door, looking awake.

"Hey," I said. "I'm really, really sorry to disturb you but... Rainbow Dash hasn't come home yet..." My voice trailed off.

"I'm awake, got studying to do." Serenity said. "So... You want to... Like... Look for her?"

"Yes... Please..." I was really worried. "Can... Can you help?"

Serenity closed the door, stepping out. "Let's go."

We walked out of the dorm complex, the cold air feeling sharp and bitter. I looked at her worriedly as we walked. "What's the plan?" I asked.

"Let's split up. You search on-campus, I'll search the area around outside. Try to keep track of the time, every five minutes we meet at the campus entrance, to check up." She patted me on the back. "Good luck... Keep a clear head out there, be careful." She took off, flying gracefully but hurridly. I took off myself, aimlessly wandering the skies, keeping my eyes sharp.
After what felt like five minutes, I headed to the campus gate. Serenity was sitting there, alone. I roughly landed next to her. "Nothing?" I asked. "Nothing." She replied. "Keep looking, we can't just quit."

***

After about 30 minutes of searching and gate-checking, I was freezing. I flew to the entrance, much slower than before. I spotted Serenity flying strangely and slowly, something in her arms. As I got closer, I realized this "thing" was Rainbow Dash. Serenity was cradling her, Rainbow Dash's arms wrapped around her, her face hidden.

"What... What happened?"

"We need to get back to your dorm." Serenity sounded very serious. "She's... She's not okay..."

I was worried. Rainbow Dash would near-to-never let someone hold her like that normally, so something must've happened.

***

I held open the door for Serenity. She gently layed Rainbow Dash down on my bed, face-up. She had lots of bruises and looked beaten.

"Oh my god...." I gasped, seeing her. "Rainbow Dash...." She was unconscious. "I'm..."

"It's not your fault," Serenity said. "Don't be too hard on yourself." She looked at me dead in the eyes. "You need to get some sleep. You can go, to my dorm. I'm trusting you. I'll take care of Rainbow Dash."

"Okay..." I said. "Just...." I hugged Serenity. "Thank you..." She nodded. I turned to leave, feeling a wave of sleepiness. I closed the door, realizing how nice Serenity's dorm was. I didn't want to spend too much time checking the place out, so I slid into her bed, falling quickly asleep.
