//------------------------------// // When the past comes knocking. // Story: The Separation of Mother and Daughter. // by SolidFerret //------------------------------// The clear skies were made by Rainbow Dash herself for this very day. It was the first summer since she found Scootaloo and she took her to the park. The sun was warm and gentle breezes went by every now and then. No clouds in the sky at all. Rainbow Dash sighed out of relaxation as Scootaloo ran happily around the park. Rainbow Dash decided to go have fun with her daughter. The two chased around and jumped around in a pure happiness. A few others looked at them and smiled at the bond that could clearly be seen. But one thing Scootaloo noticed was when there was a baby like her, there was a stallion and a mare with them. The word 'daddy' was said to them. Scootaloo picked up on it and decided to ask her mother. "Mommy, wheres daddy?" She asked. Rainbows pupils shrank at the sound of the word 'daddy.' Scootaloo never knew that Dash wasn't with anypony right now. She was always busy with flying to look for any colts. She didn't know what to do. Scootaloo never asked anything personal like this. Rainbow leaned and and said the closest thing. "I'm not with anypony." Scootaloo began to weep softly. Dash picked her up and sped on home. But Scootaloo kept saying between sobs. "I want daddy." Present Day "Mom, do I really need to be watched by Derpy" Scootaloo complained as Rainbow Dash was struggling getting blue suit on. "Yes." She said as she struggled more with her suit. "But she's... you know... weird." Rainbow Dash stopped her a second and turned to her daughter. "You know, when you were a baby, she used to make you laugh so hard that she kept being clumsy just to do it. Plus, you and her daughter were very close friends." Scootaloo remembered suddenly. The two did spend Hearths Warming together. Rainbow finally succeeded in getting her suit on. An official Wonderbolts suit. Scootaloo looked in awe at it. She too dreamed of being in the Wonderbolts just as much as her mom did. "You look great mom." Scootaloo complimented. "Do I look great cause' I don't feel great and I'm afraid they'll turn me away for my looks and then I won't be there any more and then-" "MOM!" Scootaloo yelled. Dash stopped and turned to her daughter. "You're rambling again." She pointed out. Rainbow realized it and began to laugh. Scootaloo laughed along with her mother. A knock at the door interrupted them. Dash answered it to see Derpy along with Soarin. "Oh hi Rainbow Dash. I was lost and this nice colt showed me the way." Derpy smiled as she trotted in. Rainbow Dash could tell by the look on Soarins face that he was heavily annoyed by her. But he shook it off. "Alright well, It's your first day of the Wonderbolts. We have training today and well uhm... lets get going." Soarin seemed awfully nervous. "Well good luck mom." Scootaloo said. Rainbow Dash leaned and kissed her forehead. "Thanks sweetie." "Good luck Rainbow Dash." Derpy said as she waved. "Thanks Derpy." "You know mom," Scootaloo leaned in to her moms ear and whispered, "if I didn't know any better, I think you have an eye for that stallion." Rainbow Dash blushed at the words. "Not true." She whispered back. Her daughter would often embarrass her but occasionally she would go a little to far. "Hey... are you almost ready?" Soarin asked from the door way. Rainbow Dash quickly turned back. "Oh yeah we're just saying goodbye and all. I'll be there shortly." She said quick and nervously. "Smooth mom." "Well I'm off. Derpy you know what to do and Scoots be good.'' A kiss on the forehead and Rainbow Dash was out the door with Soarin. "Well now what?" Scootaloo asked. A grown colt with a messy yellow mane and an orange pelt stumbled through the streets of Cloudsdale. Only one thing was on his mind. "Get my daughter back." Derpy had tried to get Scootaloo to fly. "Come on Scootaloo. You got to believe in yourself." Derpy encouraged as Scootaloo would jump off a chair and try to flap her wings in hopes of hovering. "My wings aren't developed enough. Mom says I need to wait." Scootaloo said. "Nonsense." Derpy waved her hoof. "That doesn't mean we don't prepare for when your wings are developed." "I guess you're right." Scootaloo said. "Alright lets try again n-'' A knock on the door interrupted her. "Moms not supposed to be back yet for another hour." Scootaloo said, confused as the knocking got more violent. "I'll get it.'' Derpy said as she trotted over to the door. But the door was knocked down as a stallion burst through it. Scootaloo tried no to scream. "Where is she?" He yelled angrily. "Who?" Derpy asked while cowering on the floor. "My Daughter!" He yelled. "Who's your daughter?" Derpy asked, hoping that he would think he was at the wrong house and leave. "Her name is Scootaloo." He said. Scootaloo almost ran. She didn't want to go with this stallion and his words stated that he planned to get her back. Scootaloo burst out of her hiding place and ran down the hall way. "Scootaloo!" He yelled as he ran after her, not caring that he kicked Derpy as he ran. "It's me. Your father!" he yelled as he ran after her. Scootaloo ran to her room. She saw a window high up but she would have to fly. She climbed on her bed just as the door burst open and the colt ran in. Scootaloo shrieked and jumped. Her tiny wings buzzing as she reached for the window. She could feel the winds and the sun as her body started to get out the window. But she was grabbed and pulled back. Her 'father' had pulled her into a hug. One that Scootaloo struggled to get out of. "No it's me Scootaloo." he tried his best to comfort his daughter. But his tired red eyes and smell of alcohol said otherwise. "I'm gonna take you home now. You and I will be a family." Scootaloo kept trying to get out of his hold. "I don't want to GO WITH YOU!" She screamed. "No. We'll be okay." He said to her. He carried her out the door in her arms. Scootaloo reached for objects in a desperate attempt to get free from her fathers hold. Items were knocked down and things were broken. "Help me!" She said to Derpy, who couldn't get up from all the blows to the head that Scootaloos dad gave to her. As he went out the door, Scootaloo took one last look at her home. She wept as her father took off into the sky. "Derpy I'm- WHAT THE HELL?" Rainbow Dash had come home to find furniture knocked over and vases broke. Derpy laid on the ground with a bump on her head. "Derpy, what happened?" Rainbow Dash came to her side. "He took her." Derpy said with tears in her eyes. "Who's he? Wheres Scootaloo?" "This colt who said he was Scootaloos dad came and took her." She said as she ran out in tears. Rainbow Dash was broken by those words. The most precious thing to her in the world was just taken right out of her very home. She simply broke down into tears. "Hey Rainbow Dash, I just gotta say that you did great and-" Soarin cut himself of at the sight of her home. But what really hurt him was Rainbow Dash crying on the floor. "The took her. The one thing I care about most in the world is gone." Soarin didn't need a picture to know that Scootaloo was gone. Soarin did what any colt would do and went over and hugged her. Rainbow Dash cried on his shoulder. As the two held each other, Soarin realized just how much Rainbow Dash cared for her daughter despite the fact that she found her in a box. Even if they aren't related to you, losing someone you love can hurt you no matter how much you two aren't actually related.
