	Six hundred years in the past Star Swirl the Bearded is trying a new spell to see the future. But something goes wrong, he feels a sharp pain in his horn as he is pulled through to the future. He is found, unconscious, by Colgate in the alley near her home. A heavy storm is being built up by the pegasi, there is no time to get him to the clinic so she brings him inside. He comes to during the night and sees Colgate asleep in a chair near by. Star Swirl is about to fall back asleep but gets into a coughing fit that wakes Colgate, without a word she dashes off and quickly returns with a glass of water. He ask her what her name is, she replies and he thanks her by name for her hospitality. He tries to sit up but finds his limbs heavy and filled with pained, he quickly falls back. Colgate rushes to the medicine cabinet and returns two pills to ease the pain. She moves to hoove them to him but he looks at them wearily. She says they're for the pain, to just swallow them. Star Swirl, unfamiliar with this kind of medicine, didn't trust it but still accepted it. She asked if he hungry, he shook his head no. He shifted to get more comfortable and without realizing it fell asleep. Colgate noticed this and soon found her eyes heavy, falling asleep in her chair once again.
When Star Swirl awakes to the the sweet smell and sound of cooking. He feels better than he did last night and tries to move, there is pain but it is manageable. Slowly he makes his way out of bed towards the origin of the delectable scent. As he approaches the origin of the smell he begins to hear a smooth melody being hummed. He enters the doorway to the kitchen and sees her humming away and cooking a delicious looking breakfast. As she turns to place more food on a nearby tray she is surprised to she him out of bed. The exchange good morning greetings and she indicates for him to sit down, he politely thanked her and took a seat, but not before pulling out her chair for her. She thanked him and sat down as he pushed the chair in for her.
They ate in silence for a time until Colgate realized something, she never asked who he was, not even his name. Star Swirl, seeing that his more than gracious host seemed nervous, asked it everything was alright. After a slight blush and a few seconds of hesitation she explained. He said that it was alright, that it was he who should apologize for being a bother. Although he felt he shouldn't tell her, he felt the need to be fully truthful and so he told her who he was. While normally she would have never taken a claim like this seriously, but the look in his eyes said it was. After he explained what had transpired to bring him here and now, she asked when he was planning to returning to his own time. He stated that it was mostly a matter of power, and that by tomorrow afternoon he should have sufficient strength to return.
After breakfast Star Swirl insisted on helping Colgate clean up the dishes and soon after doing this made their way to the living room. Since the storm from yesterday was still going strong they pasted the time by talking, mostly about what Star Swirl had missed over the last 600 years. As they talked time itself seemed to disappear it was only the loud grumbling of Colgate's stomach that signaled that lunch had been missed, in fact so had most of the day. Both her and Star Swirl were surprised to find that it was indeed five of six in the afternoon, with Celestia's sun setting in the distance. Colgate soon got off the couch and made her way to the kitchen to start making dinner. Star Swirl would have helped, but he never did cook much and so resided himself to setting the table. By the time diner was over and cleaned up it was nearly eight-thirty and they decided to call it a day and head to bed. Star Swirl insisted that Colgate take the bed as it was her house and that he would take the couch. Colgate seeing there would be no way to convince him otherwise agreed and so they bid each other a good night and went off to bed.
The next morning went similar to the previous, with Star Swirl waking to the smell of Colgate cooking breakfast. Although Star Swirl could see Colgate was less than thrilled this morning. Not wanting to see a mare so beautiful looking sad he asked politely what was wrong. She tried to claim it was nothing, which he took as a sign that he had overstayed his welcome, causing him to apologies and state that he will be strong enough within the hour to head home. As he was getting up from the table to put the plate in the sink Colgate asked him to wait. With a tear in her eye she explained that yesterday just talking with him was the most interesting conversation she'd had in a long while and that today with his leaving, it would be while before she could talk like that again.
Seeing the downcast mare in front of him caused him to feel sorry for how wrongly he had taken her words mere moments ago. "Perhaps one more day of rest wouldn't be a bad thing," he thought out loud, "But what could I do to pass the time?", he continued grin and a wink to Colgate. Immediately she brightened, up running over and hugging Star Swirl for all he was worth. "Listen," he spoke while returning the hug, "I'll have to go back tomorrow." at those words she became saddened. "I understand." she said loosening her grip on him, to which he responded by tightening his and saying "But that doesn't mean I can't come and visit from time to time." With a smile on her face for the rest of the day Colgate and Star Swirl spoke the day away, and after another late diner said their goodbyes. With a flash of light he was gone, back to the pages of history leaving Colgate in a now seemingly empty house.
True to his word Star Swirl the Bearded would return to visit about every three months, and every three months they would talk away till it was time for him to leave again. For two years this went on with out anyone in Ponyville suspecting a thing, that was until everypony started to notice a change in Colgate's behavior. Rumors began to swirl around about Colgate, and so at the beginning of the third year of their agreement Colgate asked Star Swirl if she could reveal the truth to the town. Star Swirl agreed and choose to be at her side when the truth came out. And so it was that on that day the town of Ponyville learned that the Unicorn Colgate announced her relationship with the great wizard Star Swirl the Bearded and she was indeed carrying their future son 'Stargate'.
